It's a right shame, was hoping he'd retire at the Emirates

Xabi Alonso's agent has claimed the Liverpool midfielder is aware of interest from Arsenal.

The Spaniard has seen a possible move to Juventulalalala the buffers after the Italian giants signed Christian Poulsen from Sevilla.

However, reports continue to suggest that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is prepared to sell Alonso to fund his own spending plans.

Alonso is rated in the £14million bracket and has now been linked with a move to the Reds' Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Up to Liverpool
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is in the market for a midfielder after losing Mathieu Flamini, while Gilberto Silva is set to join Panathinaikos.

Reports in Spain suggest contact has been made between the two clubs and the 26-year-old's agent Inaki Ibanez says the player is waiting for Liverpool's decision.

"The player knows about this subject and now the decision lies with Liverpool," Ibanez told Spanish newspaper Publico.

Alonso's sale would give Benitez the funds to sign Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.
interesting, id prefer Alonso over Barry

Same but Liverpool ain't gonna let him go as there would be next to no cover for his ability.

If I were Rafa, I'd keep Alonso, the fans want it.
Well I do.
So take Barry, please?

If Barry is going to cost 18 million, there is no way Benitez lets Alonso go to Arsenal for anything less then 20 million.

Please, Alonso is rated at £14M and he wouldn't up the price just to sell to Arsenal.

This is an interesting comment Arise...
I don't think there is a chance in h*ll that it would happen, but I think you're right...Henry would probably be more effective in this "matured" team than he was during his captaincy.

no one is suggesting Henry is coming back...you have to go back a few pages to understand the context of that Statement...it had to do with Ade & Eto'o rumors...and then past Henry & Eto'o rumors.

Actually Wenger would take him back and he said so eariler this season, but he also followed that up by saying he has had regular conversations with Henry and Titi doesn't want to come back.

After Rijkaard left he was rumored by the media, 'not Barca' because Pep has already said he has a lot riding on Henry this season. I am happy that he isn't coming back because I think he is a star and he will set the Nou Camp on fire this season for sure because he will be in his natural position.

Yeah I know its a pipe dream, but I was thinking about him playing prior to the maturation of our young players and how we are now and I think it would have been a great pairing, but on the flip side had he not left then I doubt they would have matured as they have so it was a gift and a curse you could say.

I don't follow. I can't see how this post has anything to do with my orignal post. Clarify please.

by the way...i'm all for the possibility of acquiring Xabi Alonso to replace Gilberto should he finalize his deal with Panthk. I'm not sure he's worth more than 12 or 13 million though.

Gareth Barry would be a great signing as well...but will also drive an extremely marked up transfer fee.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger just used his young talent to slot in next to Cesc....like Diaby, Denilson or Song.

And I also wonder if Wenger consults with Cesc in a situation like this.
Afterall he is the future of the club...maybe he gets a say in his long term patnership.

Well I wouldn't mind having either Barry or Alonso, but I also like Denilson because he has a tremendous upside. I think Diaby and Denilson will be the future partner for Cesc even if someone else arrives.

I can't see Liverpool increasing the asking price of £14M even if it is to another EPL team, it would be a terrible business move and completely unethical. It would different if he were offered to an EPL team first at a higher price then had it lowered if a foreign team came for him, but when its the way it has happened I just can't see it being changed.

I think Alonso fits our scheme better than Barry, but I like the versatility that Barry offers over Alonso.

greatest player in our clubs history will always be welcome back in my opinion, he'll probs come back in a coaching type role i reckon. besides there were many rumours a while back about him going to the MLS with Seatlle in 2009

Hleb has completed his move to Barca

Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | News | Hleb completes Barca move

I think Nasri will replace Hleb but i think we need another midfielder to replace Gilberto.

Re-read, I said I would like to see him back at the club even though I know it wouldn't happen.

How do you figured Barca got ripped off? I swear sometimes you say the most ridiculous things. Between you, Masch, and Matieo, I don't know who says the most mundane things.
