Is it sort of like what Xabi Alonso is reportedly doing to help out Liverpool so they get the full payment from Real Madrid.
Basically he signed a 1 year extension so that Fiorentina could increase his value. Easiest way to think about it that if a player is that much closer to his deal expiring he will go for cheaper so by extending it a little longer he gets a little more money and they can up his price and change his contract terms for leaving.

I'm still wondering how much money this deal will cost us.
Actually he said out of respect he wouldn't do another EPL team, but what is interesting is that a couple weeks back before he was even linked with Fiorentina he was supposedly a target of Roma and his Agent said that he would like to play in the Serie A so I think that is what actually drew the attnetion of Fiorentina to Eboue.

In the endI don't see this costing us that much. Eboue valued at £7.5-8M and another £7-10M from us would make the deal near his initial £15-20M evaluation.

My feelings about him have been mixed. As a RB I like him, but not as a RM. He broke into the Arsenal team as a RB, but then Arsene bought Sagna so I guess he didn't rate Eboue to highly as a right back because he plays more midfield than he does fullback.

I think getting Melo is more important to our team than keep Eboue and playing his in various positions.

We only want him if Ade leaves, so he wouldn't be a bench warmer...

And he can play a higher standard of first team football at Bordeaux (Ligue 1 Champions who will play CL football next year) than at Sunderland...

eboue is not gifted enough to play midfield, gives up the ball too easily. he would be a good backup right/left back but i guess he wants more playing time. hard to get when clichy and sagna are playing so well. since arsenal are so injury prone i wish he would stay and give another solid option for just in case

I have to say I did like the Sagna RB and Eboue RM combo. It gave us a really nice overlap with two right sided players who are both capable of defending. That said I feel that Melo would be more important to us. It's a shame to see him go as a make weight, but fair play, the lad gave us a few good years. I'll cheer him if he comes back with Fio.

Looks like Blaise has finally stated he wishes to leave France.

Matuidi seeks summer exit

Premier League team Arsenal have been credited with an interest while Bordeaux and Marseille are said to be admirers.

The 22-year-old is ready for the next chapter in his career and is hopeful St Etienne will allow him to find a new club for the 2009/10 season.

"My wish, if I have the chance, is to leave," he told L'Equipe.

"If I have an opportunity, I will ask to leave. I have already said this in-house and the leaders understand my choice, but they also expressed their desire to keep me, which I find understandable.

"My wish is to leave because I think it's time. Or, if it's necessary and I stay, I would also be happy."

It has just been said on SkySports news that Ac Milan would offer Arsenal £20million and Flamini for Adebayor.

if true, that would be the deal of the summer (on our behalf). I dont rekon flamini would return though, but if he did we would get our holding mid and 20 mil for a replacement striker, maybe huntelaar on the cheap from madrid.

i rekon he could, plus hes much more clinical in front of goal than adebayor, and also replaces the height which we would lose with adebayor

It seems that if Adebayor goes then Arsenal will replace him with that Morocon striker Chamak (not sure what how to spell his name)
