I don't think nationality matters too much to be perfectly honest. I don't care if we field 11 Englishmen or 0, I just care we play good football and preferably win (before any enquiries into where I'm from I was born in London and have lived here all my days). All of that said, the reason we don't buy English players is the inflated cost. We do however develop and produce English talent. Ashley Cole, David Bentley, Jamie O'Hara, Steve Sidwell, Justin Hoyte, Fabrice Muamba and James Harper are all currently playing football for good teams and came through our academy. Jermaine Pennant, Theo Walcott, Francis Jeffers and Luke Freeman are all English players Wenger has signed and has tried / is trying to develop, with varying degrees of success.
Our current crop of young English players though are some of the best in the country, and 4 or 5 of them should be England regulars in the next 5-6 years. Henri Lansbury, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Luke Freeman and Mark Randall are just a few. With other impressive youngsters such as Kerrea Gilbert, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Jay Simpson and Luke Ayling it's hardly as if Arsenal don't give young English players a chance, it just so happens that the majority don't turn out to be first team material.

Scott Parker isn't a fashionable type of player, he's never going to be footballer of the year or top the scoring charts, but he does what you want a defensive midfield player to do, he mops up mess at the back, and he "let's the opposition know he's there". His tackling at times can be... What's a nice term... "colourful", but he's a solid little player and I reckon somebody who's willing to get stuck in in the centre of the park could be a good thing. If you kicked Fabregas and Nasri and Parker would definitely kick you right back.

yeah guess so, unless hes paving the way for either gallas or toure to leave and take their place. Hopefully not though otherwise were back to square one in defence.

diarra, veloso, toulalan are all better imo. I know they arnt proven in the PL (barring lass), but they are better

Diarra wouldn't come back and neither Veloso nor Toulalan have played in the Premier League or at the highest level before.

Are they better players than Parker? Probably, but are they: As cheap as him, as physically strong as him and ready to start on the first day of the season? I doubt it.
