Anelka...I don't even know what nationality he is anymore (even though it's French) since he's been playing all over Europe. Had a feeling he would actually score but he didn't, might be Chelsea's scape goat after Terry stepped up and went for the glory himself

I don't think he stepped up to take the glory - isn't the order of penalty takers decided before any are actually taken? He's the captain, too, so it makes sense for him to take the last (and, in this instance, crucial) penalty.
I don't think the fact that he slipped actually affected his penalty, either - he seemed to strike it and then slip, so I think he'd have missed regardless. Defenders and penalties... they never seem to go together well... I agree with smeltz: Man United didn't deserve to win (they were outplayed for the majority of the game), but what a great end to a great season for them! Phenom |

the Ferdinand didnt take a penalty becaus e they knew who there best takers were...Terry shouldnt even be taking one when they still had other players like Essien there. Chelsea only cam into the secondhalf...manu dominated the firsthalfjust my view

I don't know if he did it on purpose, but I agree that he'd already taken (and missed) his penalty before he slipped.Quote:
Man United defended well enough, and got lucky enough on a few occasions, to take the game into ET and then to penalties, so credit to them for winning a game in which (I feel that) they were outplayed. The first 6 penalty takers for each team volunteered to take a penalty; the 7th penalty takers and the remaining players (who didn't take a penalty) were the ones who didn't want to take a penalty, so you have to give the first 6 credit for being brave enough to "step up to the plate." |

As for Chelsea 'deserving' to win...that's crazy. Chelsea's goal itself, came from the run of play and was quite lucky that VDS and Rio Ferdinand, two solid players slipping at that instant. You may argue the case that Lampard and Drogba hit the post afterwards, and that Chelsea pressured, but who knows if Chelsea would've been as dominant in the second half, had they not have scored and gained the morale. Man Utd also could've scored 3 goals in the first easily, if it wasn't for Cech coming out with two fantastic saves, and Tevez nearly missing Rooney's cross (actually looked like he mis-interpreted it at the time). Fact is, quite a luck goal indeed by Chelsea. Neither team 'deserved' it more than the other IMHO game went to penalties, and if you're going by chances Man Utd had 5 shots on goal compared to Chelsea's 3, while Chelsea blew 15 shots wide compared to United's 6. While United had 58% possession of the ball in the game. I agree, Chelsea overall had more chances considering they still pressured in the second well, and were a better team in extra time...but when it's penalties no one deserves it more than the other, relegation time doesn't matter when it comes to a PSO. Although Chels would've had a better chance had Drogba not acted like an idiot.
