No real good news in...
What The Papers Say Fortune's horror KO Quinton Fortune is out of action for six weeks after the Manchester United star ruptured a cruciate ligament. The South African international was taken to hospital after suffering the knee injury during training at United’s Carrington complex yesterday morning. Fortune, 28, has had an injury-plagued career - including suffering a broken leg. He was just beginning to get a good run of form having appeared in 32 games for the club last season. Sir Alex Ferguson is already scouring the transfer market and will now do so with extra urgency. Neil Custis, The Sun Real go for Rio Real Madrid are gearing up for an assault on Manchester United to snatch away Rio Ferdinand. The Spanish giants have turned their attention to the England star, 26, after being forced to scrap plans to land Steven Gerrard from Liverpool and United starlet Cristiano Ronaldo. SunSport has learned Real's No 1 transfer fixer Jose Angel Sanchez has held two meetings with Ferdinand's agent Pini Zahavi in the last few weeks. Negotiations over Ferdinand's £100,000-a-week contract extension have dragged on for months - and remain unresolved. Now Real president Florentino Perez wants to test United's resolve to keep the coveted defender. Eric Beauchamp, The Sun Real still keen on Ferdinand Real Madrid are still monitoring Rio Ferdinand's Manchester United contract negotiations and have not ruled out a summer raid. The Spanish club are on the verge of offloading Walter Samuel to Inter Milan and the England defender is on a list of two possible replacements. Real are also looking at Sevilla youngster Sergio Ramos. Real's sporting director Arrigo Sacchi said: "Ferdinand is a great player and admired by all in football." Pete Jenson, Daily Star Gabriel: Roo and Ruud must get greedy Gabriel Heinze claims Manchester United must be more "greedy" in front of goal if they are to overhaul Chelsea next season. Heinze says United's lack of goals was the main reason they trailed in 18 points behind the champions in the title race. The statistics back Heinze up and despite boasting £60million worth of striking talent in Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Smith and Louis Saha, United managed just 58 Premiership goals last season. "Last season in some games we didn't score the goals that in other seasons we might have done," he said. "When that happens there is nothing you can do except hope for a bit more luck. Maybe we need to be a little bit more greedy. But sometimes because our game is so much about constant attack we have failed to be careful enough in defence. Whatever we do, don't forget that we are not the only ones who will be looking to improve. Our rivals are also getting tougher. But overall I think United have an excellent squad with plenty of players of great quality. I really don't know what else we have to do and maybe we just need some more luck." David Anderson, Daily Mirror Round-up by Steve Bartram. __________________________________________________ _ If SAF lets Rio go - for any price, he's the dumbest man on earth.

Heinze Breaks Mould With Player Of The Year Vote
Gabriel Heinze is the first defender and non-European player to be voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year. Almost 17,000 One United Members and E-Members voted - that's a quarter of Old Trafford at its capacity - with Heinze claiming a third of those votes. The Argentine left-back, 6511 fans having nominated him, beat Wayne Rooney to the award by almost a thousand votes. Cristiano Ronaldo was acknowledged for an impressive second season with 2310 votes in third place. A revelation since his £6.9million move from Paris Saint Germain last summer, Heinze fast became a fans' favourite in his debut season at Old Trafford. His committed style and ceaseless work rate complement the quality of his tackling and passing, and was widely considered one of the shrewdest purchases of the season. So impressive was Heinze last term that supporters rank his first season with the Reds more highly than Wayne Rooney's. The pair were rare shafts of light in a gloomy season for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who finished the campaign empty-handed. That a defender topped the voting ahead of Rooney, who treated fans to a debut hat-trick and breathtaking goals against Middlesbrough and Newcastle, speaks volumes for Heinze's quality. The 27-year-old signed for United in June last year, but didn't make his debut for three months until September due to his involvement in the Copa America and Olympic Games with Argentina. With an Olympic Gold medal secured, Heinze set about a charm offensive with his new club. He produced a goal on his debut, a 2-2 draw with Bolton, whilst his first outing at Old Trafford, against Liverpool on Monday 20 September, gave an early indication of what fans could expect week in, week out. Buoyed by a capacity crowd on Rio Ferdinand's return from suspension and playing against fierce local rivals Liverpool, Heinze revelled in the atmosphere. He produced three sliding tackles one after the other - each with a louder roar than the last. In the return fixture, in January, his sliding challenge on Fernando Morientes was nothing short of world class. He missed the FA Cup final due to an ankle injury, but another season like his first would surely deserve, and hopefully produce, a winners' medal. Sir Matt Busby 2004/05 Player Of The Year 1. Gabriel Heinze - 6511 votes 2. Wayne Rooney - 5646 votes 3. Cristiano Ronaldo - 2310 votes Report by Ben Hibbs. __________________________________________________ _ Argentina! Short round-up in...
What The Papers Say Rio not for Real Rio Ferdinand is NOT on Real Madrid’s shopping list and that’s good news for Manchester United fans. Ferdinand, 26, has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu after a lengthy delay in signing a new £100,000-a-week contract. Real were reportedly monitoring the situation and preparing a multi-million pound bid for the England defender. But Madrid’s sporting director Arrigo Sacchi insisted: “Ferdinand is a great player but he is not in our plans. We are concentrating on other necessities for the team. Among other things, he belongs to another club and it is not our policy to work on those players.” Staff reporter, The Sun Fortune out Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune will miss the club's tour of the Far East after having surgery on his knee. Staff reporter, Daily Mail Round-up by Steve Bartram. __________________________________________________ _ The thing about Real saying they're not interested in Rio shouldn't be directly believed. That can surely be game-talk, to try to win him over. But he ain't going nowhere. ![]() @Fifafan: Do you mean if Rio leaves? Rio ain't leaving.

Meet Steve Bartram. No, seriously. Why would Fergs let Rio go? He's (atleast in my opinion) the best central defender in the world, and he's only 26, so he hasn't reached the age when most central defenders are at their best. There are a few players that SAF could never sell, who are a big part of United's future (like Rooney, Ronaldo, Rio etc etc). If he sells Ferdinand I will personally seek up Sir Alex and give him the biggest slap ever to come from a right hand.

__________________________________________ Park Finalises United Move Park Ji-sung is officially a Manchester United player, having signed a four-year contract. The 24-year-old South Korean midfielder arrived at United's Carrington training headquarters on Friday morning to sign the deal and complete his move from PSV Eindhoven. Shortly after putting pen to paper, Park met his new team-mates for the first time and trained with the squad as the Reds continue their preparations for the upcoming Far East Tour and the new season. United announced an agreement with PSV for an undisclosed fee for Park, believed to be around £4million, on 22 June. The midfielder passed a medical later that week but could not complete the transfer until a work permit had been obtained. After a hearing in Sheffield earlier this week, which Sir Alex Ferguson attended, Park was granted a work permit and becomes United's second signing of the summer after the capture of Fulham's Edwin van der Sar. ![]() Report by Ben Hibbs. _____________________________________________ Finally

The thing is if Ferdinand wants to go or doesnt sign a new contract Man Utd would have to sell him soon to try and get £30m back.
I voted for Andy Taylor as Exeter City player of the year.
