as far as i can tell new games that are released will have tophies like the xbox 360 achievments i think, older games dont have it but the makers can release patches to join the trophy system into the game. the update will also let you listen to your own music in game with either new compatible games or older games with a patch released

Old games need to be patched, but as above, it's similar to the 360 achievements except you earn bronze, silver, gold and platinum trophies rather than "points", you also have a "level" depending on the number of each trophies you own. I know SSHD has been patched for trophy support.

Yeah,
and to further that- you need trophies to advance to the next "level." Platinum helps the most towards the next level, but there is only one platinum per game I believe. The next best is gold and there might be a couple, silver follows that and there will be quite a few, whilst bronze will only help a little bit but will be abundant throughout the new games and/or patched old ones. Hope this helps, Maxen13 PS Matt posted a video in the Burnout Paradise thread which explained the trophy system... It's on one of the last pages of the thread entitled "Latest Burnout/Criterion News," or something lile that... |

When games get patched, you should not have to re-play the game. The patch is intended to work so that, if for example you play FIFA, and there is a trophy for like scoring 50 goals and in your game you have scored 51, it will unlock and you would not have to score another 50. Smae with Burnout, if there was one for finding all smashes, you are not expected to start over and find every single one again. If you have already found them all, then the trophy will, if the patch works, unlock automatically. This means that when you start up a patched game, you could end up rising several levels because you unlock so many trophies... Maxen13 |

One problem I foresee, Microsoft heavily encrypt save games to prevent cheating and to maintain the integrity of the Gamerscore, Sony however do not, so it is highly likely that you'll be able to download hacked save games that unlock the trophies for you, or even programs that do it for any game save. While there were exploits in some games for the 360 that allowed the achievements to be unlocked I see it being a bigger problem on the PS3.

i hope this doesnt turn people into trophy nerds (like a few people i know who do nothing but gain achievments for there 360 because they think it makes them look good)
i dont really have any desire to play through my old games to gain a few little trophys, so i cant see that many other people doing it tbh |

Oh people will, just like with Achievements, the PS3 isn't devoid of the kinda people who would collect achievements, they just can't, like it's not devoid of annoying Americans who never shut up, it's just due to the lack of a standardised headset you generally can't hear them.
But as I said in my last post, unless Sony do some kinda protection on the save games and tracking of trophies due to it's open nature I think it will be pointless to collect them anyway as the people who want to show off will just cheat to get them.
