i have had the same problem my tag is Bruno-Jr and the person that i was trying to add was BrutalRoy between 8:45- 9:45, But in between that it will allow me to play him with a game invite on team play i have set up a league which i was hoping to kick off by the weekend but it jus aint going to work if the ppl in the league cant play in the normal format. My NAT TYPE IS 2 if that helps which i donthave a clue wot it means. Is it my modemor something like that..... can some PLZ PLZ HELP ASAP

I have had this problem with my mate, we had all sorts of trouble on 09 and now this, both re-set our routers and fiddled with ports and still nothing.

We tried Sunday between 7-10 and then this morning from 10 and now (10:45) our PSN's are davemeister86 (me) and EddyMelito.

I emailed EA on this and they suggested trying two things. First of all try deleting and then adding each other on the friend's list. If this doesn't work they said online play and matchmaking can be affected if one of you is connected wirelessly and the other has a wired connection.

They also told my friend to ring his ISP and get them to change some port numbers. We finally had our first online game last night.

Well this is the reply I got to my complaint, so I thought I'd share it with you guys

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I apologise for the delay in response. The internal, LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. For example, use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1. No matter the brand of router, its default internal IP address should be provided in documentation. Administrators often have the option to change this IP address during router setup. In any case, however, the private LAN-IP address remains fixed once set. It can be viewed from the router's administrative console.

Now you need to set up a static IP address.

You need to go to the DMZ menu option in your router through your router menu. Make sure this is not conflicting with any other device as it will not work very well.

Once you have done that, it is time to set the ports up.

On page 20 of the FIFA manual there is a list of ports.

Go into the Port Forwarding Menu in your Router Menu (This is sometimes called Application & Sharing or Gaming Menu or Other) and set the ports up that it says in the book. I created a new application name and then linked these ports to it and saved it as FIFA10.

Those are as follows

TCP 80 to 80
TCP 9980 to 9989
TCP 12400 to 12499
TCP 30400 to 30499

UDP 3659 to 3659
UDP 9570 to 9570
UDP 9808 to 9811
UDP 9858 to 9861

Now link the IP address that you made earlier to these ports and the Application you linked the ports to.

Note - Remember to save your progress every step of the way.

OK, that is all that open and done.

Now, for your PS3.

Go into Settings, Internet Connection Settings (Wireless), Choose Custom, Enter Manually and then follow and do not alter anything until you get to the section that says IP address, enter this manually and enter the one you chose as your Static IP address. Now save all that.

You may want to restart your router for things to take effect but other than that this should work wonders as it did for me.

If you still have problems, check that your area has a line big enough for the connections on this site as it often reports problems for users and shows info that sometimes it is the ISP's fault.

I have noticed that with some routers, it loses the connection with the static IP address and so if you have a problem again after it worked, go back and see if it has unlinked itself in your router. The reason it may lose the IP address is because the router is still assigning a IP to the PS3 by DHCP. Somewhere within the routers menu you should be able to reserve an IP adress for the PS3/XBOX, and no other device will ever be able to connect using the reserved IP

I know my problem is not related to my router as I have all ports forwarded and the firewall disabled for my PS3 IP address, so nothing should be blocked at all.

I can't speak for my friends, but I know I was able to play FIFA 09 with one of them.

Trust me, it is not my router. I know what I am doing with routers, and I know the settings are fine. As I said before, I can't be sure how my friends have their routers set up.

I can't think why BT would be recommending that you buy a new router. I would be surprised if you needed to go to those lengths.

I have done as stated above. I have opened all ports used a static iP address for my ps3 and also assigned it to dmz on my router but i am still having trouble playing my friends. yesterday there was a software update for fifa10. but this has not resolved the issue. im using a BT homehub. is this problem only happeneing to people with BThomehubs?

I have a feeling it is. BT Homehub's are getting a reputation for being less than cooperative with games as time goes by.

Would be interesting to know if there are any 'secret' ports that aren't suggested in the manual that could help.

this port stuff is way over my head. simple question.... is this ever going to be fixed by EA so i can play my friends overseas? works fine with my friends domestically. guess i have to recruit more domestic people to get the team player trophy. why does this game have such a dumb trophy that makes it hard to get because of these issues.
