Avatars and Signatures

As you've probably noticed already, many people have either an avatar (the picture under my name to the left) or a signature (the text below my post), maybe even a graphical signature!

If you would like the same, please follow these instructions :

To change any of your options you will first need to go into your Profile which can be found at the top of every page (see image below).

To change your signature, look for the signature box in your profile page, and enter whatever information you wish to put in there. To change the colour of any text, or for some other effects check out the BBCode guidelines for some examples (see image below).

If you want to put an image into your signature you will first need to find somewhere to host it. The best thing to do is to find a free web host (search on Google for free web hosts and you'll probably find something suitable - alternatively you might have some free web space as part of your internet account) then move your image to the host by whatever means they recommend. Most web hosts will include very good instructions on how to move files and images from your computer to your web host - so don't be nervous if it sounds complicated.

Once you have uploaded your image to your web host you will need to find out it's address - sometimes called a URL. To do this, again follow the instructions from your web host on finding your web site and put in the name of your image at the end - so if your web host name was www.free-web-host.com your image will probably be at www.free-web-host-com/my-image.jpg (this is just an example address, but it should give you the right idea).

To then put your picture into your signature just use the BBCode image tag in your signature. Probably something like this :

To choose an avatar scroll to the bottom of your profile page and either insert a link to your own image (in the same way as you did for a graphical signature) or select the Show gallery option as shown below :

From there you will be taken to the UK Sims avatar gallery, allowing you to choose either a female or male avatar from a varied selection we have provided.

There you go, now you can create your own graphical look for the UK Sims forum! Before you go, please take note of the following rules :

1 - Any images used MUST be suitable for all and adhere to our Forum Rules and Regulations
2 - All images MUST be in either jpg or gif format. bmp is NOT permitted.
3 - Avatars should be 85 pixels wide by 85 pixels high.
4 - Signatures (including all images and text) must NOT be larger than 450 pixels wide by 120 pixels high.
5 - Any graphics used MUST be less than 50kb in size.

Failure to follow these rules may result in your images being removed. Serious offences may result in your posting privileges being removed as well.

If you don't feel able to make your own signature or avatar but would like one anyway, post a (polite) request in the Creators Forum and one of the many talented signature creators on the UK Sims may offer to help you out.
