Mirror's Edge Speed & Time Trial Help!!!!!

I was looking at some Time Trial vids and they were using a lot of side boost jumping when i try to do it i always end up jumping instead,or not doing it fast enough, and after I watch time trals and try to do them, i do the same thing they do and i fail i always get 2 stars or 1 star i tried following a ghost but they just disappear b4 my eyes and if they dont disappear i follow them and where they jump i fall i practice at the time trials b4 i do them but idk Neep Help plz X360 GT is TekkenShinobi Plz Help and Thanx.

For side boost like Prilt's and stuff hold both analogue sticks,either right or left,and jump. Some of the jumps are tricky and you need to just practice 'till you get it
