Default free runners.

hi if there is anyone on this site who actually does parkour/free running i would have thought they would be looking at mirrors edge threads.

im just asking anyone out there how they got into free running and where the best places are to do it?

LOL!

I started learning parkour BECAUSE of Mirror's Edge! I knew of parkour, and found it interesting, but didn't know much about it. Then, when i played ME, i started watching videos on youtube, and that got me hooked! lol, in the game and on videos, they make it look soo easy! Its not! T.T I'm working on my speed vaulting, my vaults are quite disjointed, but... my excuse is that i havent been doing it very long I managed to find two different classes in Cardiff (capitol of Wales) one aimed at begginers, and the other is kind of 'come and give it ago - we'll help you if you ask for help,' both of which have they're benifits and drawbacks

yeh ive done a bit where we live, but it's not really the best place for it.
im more into the running aspect rather than the tricks. you have to have a hell of alot of upper body strength tho and thats not what i have

I do parkour, no free running though. I've been into it before MiE came out. Got into it due to vids on YouTube. I really liked what I saw.

But once I got into it, I realised I've been doing parkour as a kid all along back in the day. I use to vault over stuff and jump over stuff. Just not at a real high level but it was still parkour. Except, I didn't know it was parkour.

Parkour is getting from point A to point B as fast and efficiently as possible. Freerunning is just more showy. You run around and do flips and a lot of stuff that's cool, but not fast or efficient.

I think freerunning is more fun, it's just not as useful as parkour can be

Yeah I started because of ME too LOL.

I am pretty good. But not so much on some of the things on all fours. Some tips on vaulting Gloss_Reality, go really fast put on hand on the object your vaulting and really get your feet up. But not so far that your doing a hand stand. Coiling is good for shorter things. (I'm not sure though if that's a real parkour move. I just copied what it looks like in the game )

lol, thanks! I need to work on my flexibility - i find it difficult getting my legs high enough for a speed vault. Also, when my leg gets better, i want to work on lifting my body weight thats going to be difficult, methinks...

Could you give me some advice on what i should have done in this situation, too?
Standing/precision jumps. I was standing on a balence beam, about a foot or two in the air, trying to jump to another, about a metre away on ground level. I jumped with both feet, but my right leg made it onto the beam, my left leg fell short. My right leg straightened fully and bent backwards, i think (I felt something go pop). LOL! I am a clutz! I think i should have bent my legs and fall backwards rather than forwards...

Any tips? I can't walk too good at the mo, but i hope my leg heals for monday, so i can throw myself back into it! (i hope.)

Hmm. Never seen that happen LOL.(Not really THAT funny since it hurt)

You should still jump with both feet but do sort of a coiling motion and land on your toes or balls of your feet then bend forward with your legs bent at about 90 degrees. Um, just watch this video:

Cool vid! I've seen some really s**t ones, but that is actually useful
Yeah... i get the 'take off' bit, but landing on something is a bit... ergh. Heh, i think it is the fear factor, and the fact that i can't jump very far - they both contributed to me hurting my leg! Oops...

Yeah me too if something is more than like 6 feet off the ground I think I'll die if I fall off

*looks at 6ft high object* Yeah.... that would hurt if you fell off But one question - how do you jump so far? If you're jumping, the momentum would carry you forwards, but from standing....? Is it just gradually jumping from further away? I need to work on it, see - i don't want to do this to my leg again!

Hm, I'm not really sure since I've never actually done a real precision jump. Heh...
I just run, land on the small object and push my self off with my feet.

Sorry I'm not much help with that(T_T)

By myself. If you asked anybody in my town what Parkour was, they'd give you a blank stare or a stupid answer trying to be smart.

I started parkour the same time I bought Mirrors Edge, and I'm loving both. I've been doing it for a few months now.
