Mirror's edge websites. 88.7

I'm sure most people know about two of these websites that serve absolutely no puropse - www.pirandellokruger.com and www.newstreamenergy.com, but i'm looking for more! (LOL, i'm bored and i've got spare time.)

Some people speculated that the websites use the names of the chapters (cause of 'pirandello/Kruger), but i think that it's businesses - it would make sense
To confirm this, none of the chapter names (expt PK) came up with any results. An easy way to check if something is related is its size (its how i've been doing it) As they are usually 2K or less.

It seems as if these websites have been popping up since around the time the PC version was released. My question is - why? Is it just some bored computer programer, leaving a trail of bread crumbs? Or is it actually a load of hints towards the next game? Who knows?

So we have two seperate messages hidden in the source code for the Jpeg:

I deciphered these numbers before, doing what other people have done, but either their is a typo, or i missed a pair of numbers, as it spells 'mirros edge two' - could it be a reference to the janitor, who can't spell?

Who is she meant to be talking to? Celeste? Mayor Callaghan? It shouldnt be someone that she knows, because she says 'who are you?' I have no theories on this, except that Faith is hunting someone down. Celeste ran in the cutscene in chapt 7-8, soooo....? Its more likely to be someone else though...

Also, the 'meta name' (i think) in the source code of both websites is '88.7'

What are they trying to hint at? It can't be a radio frequency for the runners, too many people have stated that it would bee too easy to listen in.

I personally think 88.7 is like a code number for a prolific runner. Similar to Merc who is faith's mentor. Someone who know's all the runners, almost like a god to them.

You know what? I think you might be onto something there! Try this hypothosis:

88.7 is, as you think, a runner/tracker. He lives in the shadows of the city and for the most of the time, keeps out of sight. Only a few of the elite runners/trackers know him, but he knows all the runners and trackers.

He's been watching from the shadows. He believes that Faith is too dangerous, dangerous to the runners, dangerous to him. She's provoked the police, after all. The police, project icarus and several renegade runners want the extinction of the Runners and November. Its because of Faith.

So he sends her a cryptic, coded message. She works it out (could be a location and a date, for example. She might think that it is celeste) and heads for the meeting place.

88.7 lures her into a trap, making out that he is Faiths friend, but he's told the police about the meeting, and they crash the party (without a tracker, how is she to know?) But they have Celeste, and although Faith is angry at Celeste, she can't let her die. Faith would try to help, but would probably get hurt herself and Celeste could get shot/killed before Faith escapes.

And then goes back on his trail to get Celeste/retribution. And now she's facing cops, pk units AND 88.7

What do you think? Its unlikely, but it would fit 'lies':

this is an interesting example of "we think" the theory that give people enough clues and they will work out a puzzle, bungie did a similar thing with halo 2, they set up a fake site called I love bees this was bassicaly one big puzzle, and the answer was a load of phone booths around the us. im not entirely sure of what happened but some prizes were involved....

i think they are doing a similar thing here, there must be some sort of puzzle going on.

Something I just thought of... kate should be on the headset in the sequel.

I agree, there has to be some follow-on for pope's murder. We know the who's and the why's now, but something about it feels...unfinished. I don't understand about Kate being the refrence, though. Thats why i put no anootations on that line, because i don't know who it could be referencing (merc, celeste or kate would be my top bets out of known characters) I think that it has something to do with another character (or possibly object, like a locket with pictures of Faith's mother in) that we havn't met, but knew Faith (most likely when she was a petty thief, so between the ages of 16 and 21. That's quite a timespan - that could be a story in itself.) And that person/object was taken away from her... or something...

LOl, i said exactly the same thing in 'mirrors edge 2 ideas', but the post is soooo long that i doubt anyone has read it form end to end! LOL

Possibly. It could be an idea. The November Riots havn't been given much meat to pick at. That and the fact that Faith ran away from home and her father. Her mother's death was collaterol, i think - i don't think that she was planned to be killed although it is possible, as Faith's parents DID do a lot of damge to the governments ideals and campaighns.

Let's think about this then. What do we know about the cause of the November riots?
What i know is that people opposed the gradual march towards totalaliorism (i know, i can't spell it) and 'organised protests, lobbied the mayor, took me and kate on marches,' (Faith says this in game). It all seems as if it were done peacefully. So why did it turn into a riot? Did some over-enthusiastic protester bring a gun and let a shot off? Did the police just open fire, or took the marchers to be a threat to some high-up official who was near by (like callaghan) Saying that, did Callaghan mastermind it from the background, planning that some kind of accident would happen and advising the units about it so that they would retaliate? Was the fact that this happened in November signifficant? To show the decline of November (the helpers for the runners), and how the government were solwly getting the upper hand?

In truth, who know at this point?

EDIT - I came across the comic version of the game whilst i was browsing the 'net. From the sounds of it, it does go into certain aspects of the back story of faith - mainly her parents by the sound of it. I'm interested, so i'll see what i can find.

Eh? Been looking at some foreighn words in the game. they seem to be odd-shaped puzzle pieces that probably have no meaning...

What can it mean? 'They're still looking for me, for us?' Police and Callaghan will definetly be searching for her.
'I feel watched' If they have the servers back up and running, she will be watched.
'Got a lead, an old friend, a risk,' Probably someone we don't know. If we do know them, celeste?
'And Kate, it won't be long now, He doesn't have long,' WHO doesn't have long?

BTW - has anyone got the origional image of the door, with the message 'Truth?' I've got a picture with a gun in the door, but there's no message!

"And Kate, it won't be long now, He doesn't have long." has to be talking about Callaghan. They must be going after him. After all, at the end of the first one, Jacknife does say that Callaghan is behind everything

Honestly, you have no idea how many times i've beat myself over the head trying to find out who the janitor is! what we know:
He's probably male, but we haven't actually seen any evidence pointing to this,
He has a spelling problem, so a low IQ or menatly ill
he likes to draw
He's possibly Milton's brother (Milton T Heft), Milton knows Mark, the guy who is a slob and who we see tied to a chair in the ICR Facility (we think anyway)
He's lonely
he likes rats (rats are teh game's symbol for runners)
He's p**sed about the red doors being kicked open

One theory is that there is a help organisation for the runners, called November. Callaghan found out about this organisation and assumed it was a terrorist group. I think that he linked this with the protesters and that's what started the riot, which killed Faith's mother. This help organisation has since dwindled, but it is suspected that the Janitor is a member - who would be careful about what they said in the presence of a thick-witted, mentally slow janitor? It's not like he could tell some higher power what they were planning
Some people think that November is the City Eye Channel News (CEC News) But i'm not sure, and there is not much evidence either way.

Could you please post the image from chapter 5 checkpoint C please? It has a rat, big eyes and armed police. Also, could you post images of anything that might mean something? It might help if we decipher a few, but it will be mostly based on guess work and assumptions.

I'll check to see if the number 1 is in the new image (somehow) since it does coincide with the 'too much white,' and also, the second image with the altered contrast IS the ICR/ Icarus faccility in PK - i can't think of any other place in the game where you see those walls.

Yep, the number one is there, but it's not as obvious as it is in the image that God_Hund used. It could be coincidence. I tampered with it with almost every tool on photoshop, and still couldnt find it. The image was made with photoshop CS3, so if anything was there, then i could not find it, but i'll continue to try.


Also, i think that the risk talked about in 'Change' is reffering to 88.7, who ever he is. You have to admit, it does tie in with my hypothosis.

I was talking to Feffe (ME senior designer) about this stuff, and he said it is for something, but it's up to us to figure it out.
I'll keep bothering him about it and maybe he'll give me some kind of hint. I also asked if there's any more websites like PirandelloKruger. He might not even answer, but I'm trying anyway.

All of these notes are setting the ground for a very exciting sequel. The first one was great and I can't wait to see what happens next. Hopefully 2011 will be when we see Faith's newest adventure. This sounds a lot more interesting than the story from the first one.

Are you emailing him, or do you know him in real life? At least we now know that we arent trying to find links where there are none. Yeah, it'd be useful to know if any other websites are going to pop up, but i'm getting the idea that PirandelloKruger is the main connection between us and whoever is doing these pictures.

Just a change to the last paragraph:
He found Celeste. He knows what she did, he waited to see how it would play out. Now she's in his hands. She sends a message to faith - faith knows that its a risk, but its one that she's willing to take, Celeste was her friend after all. Other runners have been called in by 88.7. They've been told to watch faith, and not to interfere with her until he orders them to. Faith can feel their eyes, but she doesn't know who 'they' are. The police are still chasing her, she needs to keep her sister safe, she wants to avenge her mother, Merc and every one else that has been hurt by Mayor Callaghan.

I hope so too. I don't see any reason why he can't confirm something you ask, its not like we're asking him where/what something is.
