Default Downloading patch manually

Hi all,

we've noticed the troubles some of you have had downloading the patch. Most of this is because the current version of BFBC2Updater.exe does not resume gracefully.

We should ideally make a stand-alone installer version of the patch. That is going to take some time, so for now, I have put together a plain .zip file which you can apply over your existing game installation.

* This is for the non-Steam version ONLY
* This is only useful if the updater fails somewhere during the updating process -- it won't help if the updater isn't even able to see the update online
* Copy the contents of the .zip archive over any version of the installed game, and overwrite existing files
* EA does not offer technical support for this package, you apply it at your own risk

Here is a link to the archive: http://static.cdn.ea.com/dice/u/f/bf...195_553292.zip

If anyone seeds it via BitTorrent, or mirrors it somewhere, please post about it in the comments.

At last! This is one of right things that DICE must do long time ago.

Mikael Kalms - breaking down corporate barriers.

It is very uplifting to see game developers using common sense to solve people's problems quickly and effectively!

This is a nice one, but Kalms I see a high security risk for the game files, if they would get seeded or similar. Crackers will be happy.

crackers just need 1 person who bought the game and then they already have the patch files.

If the crackers want the files they will find a way to get them, with or without a file like this. Makes little difference. Too bad we can't get him to "accidentaly" include the server files in there.

Good job, Mikael. Thanks for listening and providing what the community has requested (I'd be interested in knowing if our new CM had pushed for this?).

Come on man, enough is enough. Use a proper download manager to cope with your lalalalaty internet connection and you will be abled to download this package.

Thanks for this. But why is creating the installer that would simply copy/paste some files while overwriting older ones a problem? It's quite simple to find out the install directory (by reading the registry) and a few simple checks like space calculation on the HDD and voila.

If I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Thanks Mikael! As I said before, make your own game company. We will buy all your games just because of your attitude.

don't you think if it was that simple someone at dice would had already thought of this?
it might have to do with the patch size which may get quite ridiculous if not handled properly and as Kalms said in his extensive post few days ago, that is not an option as some people wouldn't be able to dl it because of dl limits

I think he's talking about an installer for this separately downloadable patch. I.e. why give us a zip file and not an executable that automatically unzips the patch in to the right place.

Well, all I can say is, Kalms is a busy man and you should be grateful that he has even released this zip file to us.

\dist\win32\package.mft file
BFBC2Game.exe
InstallationData.xml
patchinfo.xml(dont need it but mek its backup too)

"/u/f/bfbc2/Patch/patch_515195_553292.zip" so i tried wrong file name yesterday.Well nwm updated without a crash at last.
