settling a few points about hacking and server disconnect

Hi Everyone, I'm writing this cause I love the game and hope that this will maybe get a few things sorted. For me the addictive part to this game is that I'm taking on other people and not a predictable computer algorithm. The new PS3 boasts its better cause it can predict what you'll do next in some games and make it even more exciting. Hello! Why not go a stage further and take on real people I feel I am qualified to give an opinion as during the day I am a serving member of the British Army and in the evenings do a lot of programming and 3D modelling using Maya, MEL and C so can look at all aspects.

Ranking doesn't mean that much to me as I frequently capture over half the flags in games by going up against three or more while maintaining a positive score and tell me is that easier or harder to do than having a higher score skulking around taking easier one on one kills? Playing paint ball or going to quasar is the same you get the one who skulk around and then you get the ones who go for it but if the truth be known if the skulkers were the only ones who played everyone would soon get bored.

Hacking, I've studied this a lot as I love the game and know this is killing it a lot. Firstly a lot of people aren't doing it on purpose. Some are but a lot aren't. Two days ago playing my favorite game, capture the flag in the village I did my usual and went in on the Axis side using the STG44 and got a sudden surprise, I was surrounded by Allies. I started shooting away in the barn waiting for other Axis to respawn but none did. Next thought was heck Axis must be getting slaughtered here so I glanced up at the score but Axis were ahead by 2 flags. It then dawned on me that I had been spawned in the allies side in a normal game where you are meant to spawn in your own side. Next question was why am I still alive and the fact was that I couldn't die and trust me I hold my own but when ten blokes are shooting at you, you know there is something up. Anyway once I had confirmed I couldn't die I exited the game. I did nothing out of the ordinary and still don't know how it happened. Some definitely though have worked out what to do lol.

Next on hacking one thing I never do now is go into certain TDM's as this is something I have found out. If you are playing in a capture the flag game with some top players hackers stick out like a wart on your nose and in a ten flag game I come out in the top four nearly always now and thats when going for it and capturing the flag a lot. I started to wonder however how I could be killing some players yet these players had amazing rankings. Well anyway I then started to notice some (not all) of these players I had been killing in capture the flag playing in smaller TDM's so in I went and was lucky enough on my first check to spawn right behind one of them. I let loose with my STG44 four time into his head at point blank range and he simply turned round and shot me once and killed me. Now don't get me wrong I'm not the best out there but when you can kill someone running in the village where they are a dot on the horizon at the other end of the field you know what the score is. Anyway I continued to check and found that everyone knows you get caught cheating in large capture the flag games in the village etc but can get away with a lot in the smaller TDM's and DM's.

Finally on that famous 'you have been disconnected from the server message'. As a hard core programmer I studied why and when it was happening and it is quite easy to make happen to prove a point. Use capture the flag in the village as its the easiest to test on. When you have enough experience to know when someone is suspiciously hard to kill. If they are smart they wont do mad rushes all the time as they will stand out and get booted off. Wait till they switch to sniper rifle to take attention from themselves and using a sniper rifle yourself and wait till you get a clear head shot. Make sure you have a full mag and go for a head shot, body shots are too easy to move away from. You will see them maybe move a bit shoot again straight into the head and you will see them freeze then move let loose another two into the skull eh voila you have it up comes the message. You will find that not only have you been disconnected from the serve but also the game has gone. The programming logic to this is quite simple. When you fire a shot your bullets screen position is compared to all other players screen position if true is returned a function is called that will take the object instance of the player and run a function to make their player image collapse and create a new object instance in the barn. If however the person is cheating the function cant operate and will lock unless error trapping has been programmed in, usually in C programming which most of these use it falls through to the exit; command (if programmed in correctly). Head shots are the one way to ensure you repeatedly call the function to make the figure collapse. If the person has managed to stop this happening by one means or another the only thing that can happen is for the current running program to crash and there you have it. Give it a try yourself and see.......

In summary if you are new to the game pick games where there are a lot of well known players online as hackers tend to get spotted quickly and get booted off. If you set up a game don't call it NEEBIES HERE ONLY as you are asking for trouble as every hackers and chancer out there will come to boost their score. If you do want a Neewbies only game create a locked game and message some of the players you have had fun playing against with the password.

I have a descent amount of experience and dont care about rank and if any neewbie wants to practice then message me and I'll tell you what makes you easy to kill, if you are that is lol. Also feel it is time more is done to set up games where we know people are playing for the fun of the game and not to get ranking.

Hi Doctor Mito, right if you are having problems logging on you will probably find you have downloaded security patches for "windoze" as us mac users call it.

Go to Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs, and then click on the box that says "Show Updates". Find the updates for Internet Explorer and remove the entry that says "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB942615)" It should be the most recent update.

This set of security updates are notorious for causing problems with games and other internet security. Thousands of sites also got their sites thrown out of sync with these updates as the new security didnt recognise Thwate ssl certificates.
