Medal of Honor Under Windows XP / Windows 2000
• Problem
The Electronic Arts game Medal of Honor uses a hard coded buffer to parse
the OpenGL extension string. This can cause a system crash under Windows
XP and Windows 2000.
• Workaround
NVIDIA has implemented Medal of Honor application detection to work
around this extension string crash.

I have also collected some of the most asked questions/issues and posted some solutions -

UPDATED: 9.13.2007 - ADDED SOME NOTES ABOUT FRAMERATE AND SOME LOGITECH KEYBOARDS & DRIVERS

In an effort to help consolidate some issues, I've grouped things into this post.

If you're having trouble running Medal of Honor Airborne (installing, playing, etc), please see the list of items below. Try to find your problem, and then try any solutions printed below it before you post about it, please. If you've identified the problem, and none of the fixes work, please let me know and we'll see what we can do to help you out.

Several of the unresolved issues below request that you send us a DxDiag report and your MoHA Settings INI file. To do that, follow these instructions:

1. select Start Menu->Run
2. type dxdiag, hit enter
3. use “Save All Information…” button to save file
4. Zip up the resulting file along with MOHASettings.ini (likely found here: C: \Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\My Documents\EA Games\Medal of Honor Airborne(tm)\Config)
4. send that zip file to us at MOH@ea.com with a FULL description of your problem. Be as detailed as possible about crashes, when they occur, what specific errors occur, etc.

IMPORTANT! - If you get an error where a dialogue box pops up giving you the opportunity to report the problem to Microsoft, PLEASE REPORT IT. Those make their way back to us, and give us DETAILED information about what's happening in the program to cause these problems. ALSO, ensure that you have Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. Many of the problems listed below can result from not having SP2 fully installed.

-------------------------------------------- ---

Problem: Install won’t complete. It rolls back at the end.
Solution(s): During the install, the installer attempts to add MOHA to the firewall exception list regardless if the firewall is enabled or not. This depends on the firewall service being available to windows. This service is enabled by default on XP and continues to run, even if the user sets the firewall status to off. If it is disabled completely in the services list, then we see the failure.

To enable the service: Start Menu -> run -> “services. msc”

The name of the service is “Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)”

To start it, right click on the service name and click “Start” in the menu. Then proceed to install the game normally.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: My Install rolls back at the Ageia Physics Driver stage
Solution: Your driver may be more up to date than what Airborne is trying to install. Try rolling back one version and the install should complete.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: When I try to install, the disc won’t read at all.
Solution: Make sure you have Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. If not, install it, and try again. Additionally, make sure your drive is capable of reading dual-layer DVDs, and that your firmware is up to date.

Lastly, bear in mind that DVD drives and individual DVD discs have tolerances, and sometimes a minor problem or tolerance difference with a drive means it won't be able to read a disc. Try another drive if one is availablel. Some community members have seen success swapping the disc at their retailer and trying a different disc if the other solutions didn't work.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: When I try to install, I get missing file errors.
Solution: There are a few potential reasons that you might be getting this error. It could even simply be a dirty reader. Try copying the files to your HDD and installing from there. Also, make sure you have Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. If those doesn't work for you, follow the directions at the top of this thread to send us a DxDiag report along with your full description of the problem.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: When I try to install, I get an error that reads: “A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (7000)”
Solution: For this issue, SecuROM's solution is below.

From SecuROM:
"It seems that some emulation tool (eg. Virtual-cd hide, Anti-Blaxx, or SR7. Stop) has hidden your virtual drives.

Please deactivate this feature and you will be able to start the game.

If the problem still persists, maybe some tool has tampered your registry entries.

To fix your tampered registry entries please follow the instructions below.

Please note that these tampered entries have been caused by emulation tools, not by SecuROM!

To fix this, please download and install a tool called ‘SubInACL’ under http://www. microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E8BA3E56-D8FE- 4A91-93CF-ED6985E3927B&displaylang=en. We recommend installing this tool into your Windows installation path (e.g. C:\Windows\) to make the further steps easier for you.

Next please download, from our Web site, the following VB-Script or batch file:

http://www.securom. com/support/fixreg.vbs
http://www.securom. com/support/fixreg.bat.

Under a user account with administrator rights, double-click (start) the downloaded ‘ fixreg.vbs’ or ‘fixreg.bat’. Please note that we are not liable for any problems caused by doing so.

If the application still won’t start, please send a new SecuROM analysis file to us."

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: When I try to install, I get an error that reads: “Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)"
Solution: For this issue, SecuROM's solution is below.

From SecuROM:
" The most efficient way for us to assist is to have you produce an analysis file. In order to generate the analysis file of an attempted software launch for us to evaluate, please do the following:

1) Make sure the original 'play' disc is in a physical, local CD or DVD drive.
2) Re-start your computer (the reboot is to assure that there are no additional instances of the software running when generating the file).
3) With your mouse, right-click on the application's desktop shortcut, or the actual application's executable file in the installation folder, and a menu will appear.
4) Choose 'Launch Analysis' from the menu.
5) A disclaimer window may appear on your screen. To proceed click 'Yes'. Another window may appear stating that an analysis log will be generated, if so click 'OK'. If any error messages appear, click 'Cancel' to continue.
6) After a period of time, the program will generate a file named 'AnalysisLog.sr0' and place it at the root of your hard drive (usually C. When the file has been generated, a dialog may appear stating it has finished. Click 'OK' to complete the process. To locate it go to 'My Computer' and open your hard drive (usually C.
Note: Vista users see further instructions below.
7) Please compress the file using a program such as WinZip, WinRAR, or WinAce (to avoid email corruption), and attach it to your email to support@securom.com.

Vista Users:
Follow the steps outlined above through step 6. Using Vista the filed will be stored in the following path: 'C:\Users\?YOUR USER?\AppData\Local\Temp\AnalysisLog.sr0'. If by chance this folder is hidden, you may have to display hidden folders. To do so, please follow these steps:
1. Go to 'Start' and left-click on 'Control Panel'.
2. Left- click on 'Appearance and Personalization'. Then select 'Folder Options'.
3. Now select the 'View' tab, then select 'Show hidden files and folders'. You should now have access to the folder.

If you do not see the 'Launch Analysis' option available in the menu after you re-start your computer, you can generate it using the command line. Please follow these steps:

1) Make sure the original 'play' disc is in a physical, local CD or DVD drive.
2) Re-start your computer (the reboot is to assure that there are no additional instances of the software running when generating the file).
3) With your mouse, right-click on the application's desktop shortcut and a menu will appear.
4) Choose 'Properties', then highlight and copy everything in the 'Target' window.
5) Click 'Start' from your toolbar, then click 'Run'. Next type 'cmd' in the text box and press 'Enter'. A 'DOS' window will appear.
6) Type 'cd\' (without quotes) and press 'Enter' to get to the root of your hard drive (you may have to type 'cd ..' several times to get to C:\).
7) With your mouse, right-click in the 'DOS' window and choose 'Paste'.
Press the Spacebar on your keyboard once and add the text '/secuexp'. Then press 'Enter'.
9) A disclaimer window may appear on your screen. To proceed click 'Yes'. Another window may appear stating that an analysis log will be generated, if so click 'OK'. If any error messages appear, click 'Cancel' to continue.
10) After a period of time, the program will generate a file named 'AnalysisLog.sr0' and place it at the root of your hard drive (usually C. When the file has been generated, a dialog may appear stating it has finished. Click 'OK' to complete the process. To locate it go to 'My Computer' and open your hard drive (usually C.
Note: Vista users see notes above.
11) Please compress the file using a program such as WinZip, WinRAR, or WinAce (to avoid email corruption), and attach it to your email to support@securom.com."

Default Known issues #2

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: I can’t join a Multiplayer game.
Solution: This appears to sometimes be a problem with folks setting up their games. As noted in the Readme, port 10000 is the only inbound port that is necessary. Open up ports 10000-10100 on your router when setting up a game, as if there’s a problem binding to 10000, it’ll choose a different one. Also, some routers give you the ability to direct incoming packets on a certain port to a particular machine. People should enable this feature, sending ports in that range to the PC playing the game. If a game is setup incorrectly, others will not be able to join the game.

Also, you can get connection problems if you've modified your INI files, you may not be able to connect to a server. Some INI files are checked in the process. If you've used a mod available online that changes these files, reverting them to their original states could solve your connection problems.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: I am getting a "can't connect to host" error when trying to join multiplayer servers.
Solution: This could be your anti-virus program. You have to create a program rule that allows the following directory to go in and out to any computer or communication protocol: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Medal of Honor Airborne\UnrealEngine3\Binaries\MOHA.exe

So, for example, in Norton Internet Security you'd follow these steps:

1. Navigate to settings > Internet worm protection
2. Click "configure"
3. Click "program control"
4. Click "add"
5. Navigate to the .exe file mentioned above and hit ok

Also, you can get connection problems if you've modified your INI files, you may not be able to connect to a server. Some INI files are checked in the process. If you've used a mod available online that changes these files, reverting them to their original states could solve your connection problems.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: Some users are reporting that their computers are rebooting or having other errors during the install process.
Solution: A lot of this is due to people not having Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. Make sure you fully install it and try again. If that doesn't work, help us by follow the directions at the top of this thread to send us a DxDiag report along with your full description of the problem.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: My system meets the specs, but I'm experiencing lower FPS than I expect.
Solution: We found some cases with a few sound cards where conflicts caused frame rate issues. Run MOHASetup and turn your sound quality to medium or low. This solution has worked for several who experience frame-rate issues. If this doesn't resolve your issue, please follow the directions at the top of this thread to send us a DxDiag report along with your full description of the problem.

Additional frame-rate boosters that have been posted by the community include:

- disabling Xfire
- installing AMD's dual core optimizer
- defragging your PC
- disable SLI
- Some players are experiencing trouble with some Logitech G-Series keyboards. There have been two solutions that have worked - uninstalling the drivers, or making sure they're completely updated.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: The game is playing fine for up to five minutes and then begins to lag and lose FPS.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: The game starts up fine, however when the first mission begins to load, the game crashes.
Solution: First, ensure that you have Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. If that doesn't resolve the issues, help us by following the directions at the top of this thread to send us a DxDiag report along with your full description of the problem.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: Reports of a “general protection fault” during gameplay is popping up.
Solution: First, ensure that you have Windows Service Pack 2 fully installed. If that doesn't resolve the issues, help us by following the directions at the top of this thread to send us a DxDiag report along with your full description of the problem.

-----------------------------------------------

Problem: Friends cannot connect to your Listen server
Temporary Community Solution: What solved the problem for many was to exit the game, restart the firewall services, and then join again. For some of them, this had to happen between each match.

The problem seems to manifest itself in a couple of ways.

1. You see servers that are available but when you try to join one, it says “Server Not Found.”
2. You will start joining a server and before you finish joining, it will fail to connect.

Both problems are solved by exiting the game and restarting the game. Sometimes you have to stop and restart the Windows Firewall. Thanks to PlanetMedalofHonor for this temp solution.

Configuring Windows Firewall ------------------------------------
Step One

First off, you need to access Windows Firewall. Go to your Start Menu and then push on the Control Panel Button. Easy enough, right ?

Step Two

If your Control Panel appears like the one in the above picture then it will be helpful to switch to "Classical View." To do this simply press the link that is inside the red square in the image.

Step Three

Now that your Control Panel is in "Classical View" simply push the Windows Firewall Icon in the red sqaure in the above image.

Step Four

Okay, now the above screen should pop up. This next step depends on your personal preferences. Me, personally, I have a different firewall I use (Norton) so I went ahead and disabled Windows Firewall. This is probably the most easiest way to get Empire at War playing, but it may not be the safest.

You could disable the firewall, play, and then re-enable. But many would consider this a hassle.

If you don't want to disable, then you will have to use "Exceptions". Push the "Exceptions" tag, in the red square, at the top of the window.

Step Five

First the window to your left should appear. Push the "Add Program" button. Then the window to your right will appear. Go down the list of programs and select, "Play Star Wars Empire At War" and then push OK. Now that program should be added to your exceptions, now push OK in the left most window.

Exceptions are not full proof. I would recommend you check the box called "Display a Notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program". This means that even if the exception we just made doesnt work, that Windows Firewall will make a pop-up appear when Empire at War tries to make a LAN game.

When/If this pop-up appears just push the button saying allow access to the network.

Now, Windows Firewall should be completely setup and ready to work.

Its not about 'being greedy'. Gamers demand better graphics, faster games and much more and in order to meet those demands, game requirements change over time. You can probably buy a decent GT6800 Nvidia card from auction sites or other outlets at well below the £150 you mention.

It is an old card now but will support most newer games and, for the money offers excellent specs - Look out for 256 MB.

is this a joke??? i was just reading the very 1st post, saying about the requirements, esspecially the bits saying....

(Single core)
1 gig memory
32 & 64 bit versions of vista not supported (does that mean no vista at all then??)

not bloody good stating that now, now that you know what causing probs with moha, or should i say moha is causing probs with them.

i just recently brought... just before moha was released, a new comp with vista, 3 gig ram and a quad core in order to get the propper kick-*** effect with airborne.

You ppl really need to get your fans involed in making your games, you ever heard of beta testing.....we all now know why yous only released a single player demo to public but esspecially to game review companies such as IGN etc, so that they would boost up the game, cos single is great, but multiplayer, the part ppl really want is completely screwed up, and you didnt want IGN and co putting that on their webby's did ya.

Well im one fan you have lost, im staying well clear of EA games in the furture, way too many bad experiances now with yous. I know im only one fan, and even if you lost a million more it would make no differance to yous, most ppl will stay carry on buy your lalalala and EA will became even richer.....well that should make EA very happy, thats all you bloody care about.

Bring on VAVLe, real games, that only when they do bring patches out which is very rarely, its too add things to the game, not fix what they balls'ed up when making it.

The game will run on Vista, its just not a supported format right now in terms of tech support as the game probably wasnt tested on Vista. Currently Vista is throwing up all kinds of issues with alot of different games - but if you bought the game, install it and it will play

To bad i didn't checked the system reqs before i've ordered the game... After spending 49€ on the game i now need to spend 10 times more to upgrade my computer.

If only that ridiculous 1.9gig demo downloaded right i would have known. (2 times i've downloaded the demo for it to crash at 98%... so i gave up)

The system req test on my system fails because i have a Intel P4 2.4ghz CPU and a Nvidia GF 6600 256mb card which i bought last year (and not the 6600GT).

Code:
You Have: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (GeForce 6600)
FAIL: Sorry, your video card does not meet this minimum requirement. You may want to contact your system manufacturer to get information about upgrading your computer. Video Card Features - Minimum attributes of your Video Card

    Video RAM: Required - 128 MB , You have - 256.0 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
Video HW Transform & Lighting: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
    Vertex Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0
    Pixel Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0
The bizar thing is that i went to the local computer shop to get their component catalog and stated that I can only buy CPU's up to 2.67GH
>> INTEL Core2 D ED6750 2.67GHZ SK775 1333 MHZ 4 MB: 176€
>> MOBO INTEL Core2 Asus P5B SK77: 87,75€

My old GFX card is AGP, and not PCX, so i need to replace all 3 components (mobo, cpu and gfx card)... but is the game worth it?

Hell No!

the idea of this game and how it should be is worth every penny and more

unless this patch coming soon(ish) makes one hell of a big change. i would stay well clear.

I would even offer to sell you my copy for half the price, but yoour only allowed one account per cd key. just another thing they didnt mention before we all spent our hard earned money on the game.

Here I am again with another question...

I used to know about computer architecture and CPU rates, but with the new technology evolving so fast and lack of time last months I'm not aware of the new CPU specs.

I've just noticed in your reqs:
Quote:
• CPU (Single Core): Intel P4 2.8 GHz or AMD Athlon 2800+ for
Windows XP / Intel P4 3.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 3800+ for Windows Vista
So, when i buy the following "INTEL Core2 D ED6750 2.67GHZ SK775 1333 MHZ 4 MB" which is dual Core, will this then be enough to run the game?
(At the moment i have a P4 single core 2.4ghz)

I could also use some advise on what graphics card to use

well...you have a duo core, i have a quad core cpu, BOTH will run the game, but what EA is now saying is...ours are not supported, which bassically means, if we get probs because of it, EA wont have a clue how to help us becasue this game wasn't tested on multi core processors.

Two things being mentioned here.
One is about the vid-cards which you cant really moan about. Reason being that when other games like BF2 & COD2 were new, everyone had to upgrade or ya didnt play simple as that. Each new generation of games require better cards and Airborne is defo one step ahead on graphics. If you aint got the pennies go search the web cause you can find some great deals.
Secondly the dual & quad cores: EA may have been a bit too quick in releasing the game but there is competion out there and they have to respond. And don't forget the presure us gamers put on them to get it out in the first place. I agree that there's no justice in having a great spec machine and in essence it's "too" good for a game, but I'm sure EA will have an upgrade soon to allow for this as they don't actualy say you can "never" use them. In fact one of my members has a £2500 dual core lap top and the game runs a dream for him.
It's having to wait for something a bit longer that naffs peeps off and that's understandable, but give em a chance to right things instead of forcing them to do 10 upgrades in as many days.
Now av done some lickin you can consider my clan for beta testing which we would be happy to do haha.

This is the most over hyped pc game ive ever known. Been rushed from console to pc. EA should have just put on box - minimum system requirements POT LUCK. This is the only game ive ever had problems playing out of the box. Thought COD 2 had problems but compared to this game at least it was playable by most people. My pc easily meets the specs quoted on the box but fps just sucks even on lowest settings. Why shud we buy games to be told turn your settings down as low as possible. Minimum requirements means the game is playable with those requirements. First game ive ever known were a high spec pc cant play it. This game is broke out the box. So dissapointing we all waited so long for this, thought this was gonna be a big a hit as COD 1 but its not even fit to mentioned in the same post. EA next time you hype a game up so much make sure you deliver!!!!!!
Back to COD 2 for me til COD 4 comes out.

hi all,, i know someone is going to point me to FAQ`s, ive been there,, ive been there for the past 3 days trying my hardest to figure out why airborne will not successfully install. And ive tried everything in there and it STILL wont load,, its starting to really get my goat up. I can get it to start to copy files,, it then takes hours, and i mean HOURS, to even get 1-2 progress blocks up on the progress line, it then tells me that it is unable to locate certain files on the disc and ask me to verify they exsist.. After another hour or two it gets about 6 progress blocks up then just stops,, the disc drive seems to be reading but it isnt reading as fast as if i put, say, bioshock in, it seems to struggle reading the disc... Is there someone else out there thats had the same thing Someone help me before i throw this crud game back in its case n go get my money back..... Thanks

You need to post some information about your PC. Follow the 'Can you Run it' program and the fact that this isnt the only game having problems, points to your PC.

If you can post a dxdiag please, that would be great

Hello everyone,

Just a quick one but hoping you can help me.

Trying to get MOHA up and running on mulitplayer but it comes up "connection lost" but I think the problem is im using a network run by the college. I've also tried turning of my firewall and antivirus program but, nothing. So does anyone have any basic steps or ideas and help will be much appreciated.

how about how to uninstall this cr*ppy game - everytime I try to uninstall it the process hangs and says 'not responding' - tried it via the game uninstall and by add/remove programs and both ways doesn't work

Teamamshed sometimes you need to leave the disc whilst you delete it. No idea why but I read it somewhere an it works for me mate.

@ douglas - This thread might help you configure your firewall settings. Just ignore where it says 'Empire at War' and replace that with Medal Of Honor:Airborne.

To play through your network, you need to be able to have certain ports open and I am guessing that only the College network Admin can do that. If you can get access, or they can do that for you, please post back and I will dig up those Port numbers.

@teamamshed
If you can please post your system specs and a small dxdiag - but I suggest you try the 'Can you run it' link at the top of this page. It will highlight any out of date drivers you have, which sounds like the case here.

Setup a dedicated server and the first day it was fine. Changed the .ini file (2 lines) to increase the maxplayers available. After this got a lost connection error message everytime. I have reverted the dedi server .ini file back to its default but to no avail, we are all getting the lost connection message when trying to join the server. I have followed all of the advice on here and this has not helped in the slightest, please help before our clan ditches this game altogether...
