Mass Effect workaround "old way" for locked out games (disc authentication required)

I found this on one the Bioware Technical support sticky threads

Mass Effect Community - Mass Effect registration and reactivation messaging update

Mass Effect Community - Game won't even start D:

Rename your paul.dll to oldpaul.dll and you will be able to launch Mass Effect "old way" style, with disc authentication.

You can rename it back to paul.dll when EA support gives you another activation to avoid using the disc.
