Default Mass Effect - Too Much Info?

I got a loan of Mass Effect to try it out, and to be honest i am not a big fan or RPG games, but i was told it was a good game and was basically a 3rd Person Shooter and RPG rolled in to one, which did appeal to me actually.

That said, after playing it for about 30 minutes i just find there is FAR too much information to try and read up on from the Tutorials to the background on the alien races and apparent coalition that there seems to be. I am all for Tutorials, but i want them to be practical tutorials where it gives you information on how to do things while you're actually playing the game rather than using a library of information that almost requires you to study.

As i said, i would rather have a tutorial as you play, or better yet, some sort of training to get the hang of it, especially about issuing orders and using tactics but that doesn't appear to be an option (at least it's not apparent to me if there is one).

Maybe this is RPG norm, i really don't know, i stick to racing, First Person Shooters (like Bf2, Rainbow Six and SWAT 4) and 3rd Person Shooters such as Gears of War, Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed. For these RPG/3rd Person Shooter hybrids it does seem appealing to me but from the short time i have played it, i am not impressed with Mass Effect at all. I would also say the graphics certainly didn't appear spectacular to me, especially for the framerates i was getting at default settings (with an 8800GTS).

Is it just me, should i give it more time, and will i get my head round the game eventually?

youll have used one of your mates activations by installing it, giving him around one left( after he installed it initially ) before he has to 'buy it again'( according to the message thats displayed when the activations are used up ) to play it. I kinda hope he was aware of that?

that's the whole point of good rpg.. you don't have to read them ..you can still play the game, but you will miss some interesting details...

as i said. you don't NEED them to play the game. it's just i LIKE it to read. it's like a goooood boook. with much much details.

KEEP IT THAT WAY..or simply don't play RPG :P rpg without as much details SUX! background story and details are most important on rpg.

as for tutorials. you have to have in mind that this is not the first game of this sort. we played trough KOTOR I, II, jade Empire, and pretty much know everything we need to know to play this game.
so tutorial trough game is not needed. it would just slow the game. prolouge is enough. this game is more made towards the ppl who wanted it on PC, and those ppl all KNOW WHAT THEY WANT and WHAT IT IS. so we all know how to play it :P besides how complcated can it be? few simple go trough controls and you'll get everything you need to get :P

quote = "Is it just me, should i give it more time, and will i get my head round the game eventually?"

it's most definitly you. RPG is not for everyone. you have to understand it, like it, and get into IT. if you're not capable of those things simply avoid rpg ... nothing bad at it. it's like some ppl not be able to play sports :P

until i found out everything good that "GOOD" rpg like mass effect has to offer i was empty. now i can't stand FPS, RACING, and those rest hollow games...

one thing more...RPG games are not BENCHAMRKS..graphic is more than GOOD and if you don't realise that...don't play it. i play the game on 6600GT. and i get poor framerate on open teritories, with everything on min ..and i LIKE the graphic. it's not about looks it's about the GAME ITSELF...if i like better graphic than this i will just go outside and look at the real thing :P

if rest developers payed more attention on story and details,,i would be much happir and so the rest of us more serious mature gamers,..
