Instead of a stand alone revocation tool a web based one managed from your accounts page would be better IMO like atari has. If I format my PC one of the reasons i'm doing so could be down to a virus, it happens to the best of us.

If I have a virus on my machine last thing I want to do is sit about messing about with a tool before I send the whole OS into the fiery pits of zero's.

I would also like to know too, nothing has been said at all regarding what happens in the future besides that EA can pull any/all online services within 30 day notice on ea.com.

Well so far EA have used this DRM methodology in BioShock, Mass Effect and now Spore. Thats 3 games I had every intention of buying but now won't. I refuse to buy any product that will not reinstall after 3 installations. I myself have two PC's, one of which is dual boot (XP and Vista for when I have to use DX10). Therefore I can use up all my installs just to get the software onto each of my machines. What happens when I need to rebuild my machine (as I have done twice in the last few months due to a dodgy Hard Drive). What about when I decide to revisit the game 2 years down the line? Yes pirating is a concern for software companies, but limiting activations is not the answer (unless they changed it to say 3 installs in any 30 day period with the counter restting every month). I actually think this kind of DRM is pushing more people down the pirating route and is helping to damage PC gaming even further.

Shame on you EA .

Default DRM Severely Limiting

I have made a vow not to buy an games with DRM like this on. I refuse to even buy the console versions, as this is a matter of principle. Recently, this has meant I have avoided purchasing Spore and Mass Effect, both games that I really wanted to play, and around £50-£60 that EA have lost.

I have nothing against piracy protection, but I refuse to pay full price for what is essentially a rental, not to mention all the little additional bits of software it installs that act as malware and spyware. EA have been pushing their luck for some time now, but now it looks like it is finally costing them.

They even relented with Spore, but it is a bit of a half-assed solution. They upped the count to 5 from 3. It is interesting in itself that they have made any concession to the public, but this is not what they want. They want an end to such a draconian method of combatting piracy.

There is a working anti-piracy solution out there. It is called Steam. You do have to logon, but I have never had a problem with it (no matter how many times I have upgraded), and their piracy level is as close to 100% as it is ever likely to get.

However, I doubt EA will, as a corporation, admit their mistake a change their policy. Companies usually fold before they admit mistakes, and it is starting to look like EA may be on the way. The share price is starting to fall, and the customers are starting to rebel. You can't automatically assume your customers are going to act as criminals and expect them to love you for it.

I urge all people who want EA to change their piracy measures to something a little more user-fiendly, like Steam, not to buy any more EA games that have this DRM. And that means holding off from buying Mass Effect on your consoles too (as this would force them to concentrate on console games as they sell and PC games don't). Stop their income flow, and they will concede. If you relent, they never will.

A new lawsuit has been filed now for Mass Effect against EA on the grounds of SecuROM.

Mass Effect Lawsuit

It's from the same firm that filed the first Spore lawsuit.

Ditto.

EA: drop the customer punishing DRM, or drop the customer. It's your call.

I was very concerned about the Security issues. I only brought the game recently and these changes make you wonder what the fuss was all about. You don't notice there is a secruity feature now.

But the only three installs thing is a bit odd, I still recon that should be 5.
