Is there a way to view PSD's in GIMP and make them appear like they do in PS (So you can acctually type in the text layers etc)

PSD's do work in GIMP, not sure if you can do the things you just said.

If I remember rightly I think I once edited a PSD once in GIMP.

Thats because of the features in GIMP (or lack of) compared to Photoshop.

GIMP doesn't have some features that Photoshop has. For example clipping masks. Therefore losing some of your effects in the image you are putting on GIMP.

There are a few layer modes in GIMP that don't exist in Photoshop, if that helps at all.
