Default Brush Tutorial

Tutorial For Making Brushes.

For those those aren’t able to download brushes and also a simple guide to making it yourself.
I’m using this with my trial guide for Photoshop CS3 but this can easily be transferred into photoplus or other programmes.

I am going to be making this brush:

Step the first:

Find an image that can be used for a brush. (whether it is words or a picture)
I found this article on google:

Tip:
Try finding a magazine article or makeup promotions…. These make them somewhat quirkier and original.

Step 2:

Use your square cut out tool, and cut out the area you want.

And paste it onto a new background:

Step 3:

We need to make this picture black and white.
Go into Image >> Adjustments >> Black and White. (for those using photoplus.. you will have to do it differently)

And the result should be like this

Step 4:
But we don’t want it looking like that.
We want to switch the black and the white around.
Go to Image >> Adjustments >> Invert. (again.. for photoplus I do not know how)

You end up with this:

Step 5:
Now. Before we change this into a brush we have to make it more interesting.

Copy and paste this picture into a new image. (not made by me)

Choose the cutting square tool again and cover the area (Just as we did in step 2, but do not paste into a new area)
For Photoplus: Right click on any brush to the side. And select define brush.
It should now be made into a brush.
For Photoshop: Go to edit >> define brush preset and then name the brush.

Step 6:
Click the rubber tool and select the newly made brush.
Go back to your other picture (i.e puppets on a string one)

And start going around the edges with single clicks.
You will need to make altered versions of the rubber… that are rotated so it can cover all angles
i.e

So, carry on rubbing out (with single clicks) carefully positioning the rubbers at different angles around the picture
It will look a bit like this:

Step 7:
Now, when you are happy with the image, we need to make it into a brush.
Photoplus, again select it and click on a brush and select define brush, just as before.
Photoshop: Select it and go into edit >> define brush preset and name it.

You should now have access to it as a brush and as a rubber.
You can choose various colours to make it more vibrant.

i.e:

You can also make other brushes: (all made by me)
