Default Do you stereotype people?

There are stereotypes set for almost every race and culture.
Do you stereotype people as well?

Sometimes, almost sub-consciously sometimes, just as soon as I see one.
But it goes after a few seconds, wasn't going to lie

I try not to, but everybody does it sometimes, just to different degrees.

I think it's sort of okay and acceptable to an extent, since their are truths in all stereotypes even if it is a very minor one, and they can sometimes serve for a light hearted laugh, but when they start to become hurtful or it starts to bother someone who's in your presence it's no longer acceptable because it's now causing harm to a fellow human being.

...I don't think that made much sense to anyone but me.

Yes, actually. Quite often. I try not to, but sometimes it's unintentional.

You can't help it. Sometimes people look weird, so you laugh, other times they seem intimidating, so you do feel uneasy around them.

It all comes down to what you feel comfortable around, and the type of people you've grown up with.

Every person on the earth does it, overtly or sub-concisely, anyone who says other wise is lying

Yup, it's the natural human reaction, to be frank.

The problem only comes when you act negatively on those stereotypes instead of realising and accepting that 99% of the time they are flawed.

A lot of stereotypes have some truth behind them, so whilst I don't ASSUME someone is stereotypical, it's the first imprint of them in my head, they'll have to prove they aren't the stereotype to lose it.

I like to think that I don't stereotype people but the truth is everyone does to a certain exstent. I know it has probably been said before in this thread but it is true and it is just natural human reaction. I try not to stereotype as much as I can.

I think I unintentionally and subconciously stereotype people, but I agree with everything MizVoldemort said.

For example, I might see somebody in tracksuit bottoms and make an assumption about them, but I'm not going to call out "chav!" or act any differently to them, just like I'd hope most people wouldn't insult me based on their first assumptions.

Well, being at school there's obviously a lot of stereotyping. Even my teachers call one person in my form 'chav' as a name

Yeah I do - mostly teenagers and unemployed single mothers. I am often pleasantly surprised though so I wonder why this stereotype remains with me.

I get stereotyped as a Mexican not that its bad, but the way people see Mexicans are not really in a good light, thanks to the media, also it shows how ignorant some people are, I mean Mexico is not the only latin american country in the world.

You know just the other day a couple of girls say that I look like Esteban from the suite life of zack and cody, you know the disney channel show.

http://www.hotflick.net/flicks/2006_..._Mante_003.jpg

http://www.cinemarx.ro/poze/postere/...164071-865.jpg

At first I got offended, I mean I want people to see me for me and not think that because I am latino that I am a salsa dancing, bell hop kind of person I dont even look like the guy.

, I also thought to myself that hey it could be worse, I could have been called a Narc and that is where I do draw the line.

I probably have stereotyped, but many times I find that I try not to think about a person's race, and many times its just something in the back of my mind, its not like when I see a chinese girl automatically I say yep she probably has been a geisha/kimono girl.

no of course I don't stereotype. You lot just stereotype because you're the typical general discussion type people, always stereotyping people and being nasty to them before they've done anything. You're all horrible
