You use the code this way but without the spaces:

Or even easier, type what you want to link, and highlight it. Then there's a button here that looks like the earth and some chain like thing, click that and it adds it for you.

In a reply box, it should be next to the text colour chooser (right-hand side), it is here.
Edit: That's on quick reply though, I don't use post reply much but if you highlight the buttons they tell you what they are.

That would be right David if you removed the space between the [ and the /url and the closing ] so it all sat together.

You need to click go advanced under the reply box first though.

Edt -
1. Click go advanced.
2. Type the text you want to make a link.
3.Highlight it.
4.Click the button circled on the picture.
