I'm 90% sure I'm going to go for the 40GB PS3, but then again I was 90% sure I would go for the 360. lol
The PS3 just seems a better deal, only £50 more than the premium, and you get 20GB more, free online and no Ring of Fire, and also has far more potential than the 360. Just one question, with the PS3, if you want to play wireless online, do you have to buy an adapter, or does that come with it ?

"Paying for potential" that's the classic line that everyone who buys a PS3 seems to use, like they need to justify the purchase somehow. And that by buying a PS3 now when it costs more and has less software it's smarter then waiting to see if that potential comes to fruition and then buying it once the price is lower. And also once it's collection of titles includes more then all but a few inferior multi-platform games that you can play on the cheaper Wii or 360 with in the case of the 360 version mostly better graphics and almost always better frame-rates.
A friend of mine bought a PS3 because of it's potential, he has Virtua Fighter 5 and Flow, and he plays it less then once a week now because all the friends he has that like Virtua Fighter live nowhere near him and he's board of single player. Whereas I who bought a 360 a year ago, when there was already a good back catalogue of games and a few good releases on the horizon. And have probably played it every week since, save for a few times when I've been away or too busy.

That fine for you. But the games I tend to play are sports games, i.e football, tennis, cricket and shoot em ups, mainly WW2 games. So I don't mind that I will be missing out.
But the main reason I'm heading towards the PS3 is because I don't trust Xbox. I've read many horror stroy's about the amount of time the consoles have been in repair for, and the fact is there is a 1 in 3 chance of the 360 self destructing. And many experts have said that in a years time the PS3 will overtake the 360, whethe or not that is the case, of course, yets to be seen. But I only have the money to buy 1 console and don't want to use that on a console that has a 1 in 3 chance of dying. You aso say that the 360 has better graphics, well I've read many articles that very much disagree with your opinion.

The Darkness Look at the lighting in both the 360 is clearly better, also the 360 version has the motion blur effect and finally look at the texturing it's all pixelated on the PS3 version most noticably is the side of the police car. Splinter Cell Again notice the better lighting effects on the 360 version, and again with the roughness of the PS3 version due to the lack of anti-aliasing most noticably on the railing and door frame. NHL 2K7 The anti-aliasing in the 360 version isn't that great but the PS3 version looks terrible EVERYTHING has jagged edges, and the PS3 version is totally lacking that haze effect of the cold air. Enchanted Arms The lighting looks weird in the PS3 version, the anti-aliasing well I mean look at the cords holding the balloons up they're all dotted and bad looking and everything looks jagged on the PS3 not just the edges but the textures themselves due to bad texture rescaling. Also notice there's less stuff on screen, bits have been removed and it still looks worse. Oh and here's the articles regarding those screenshots, the only two games where they say the PS3 versions look better are Oblivion and the Godfather and those games came out a year or more later on the PS3 so damned right they'd better look better. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=84655 http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=78963 http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75856 http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74502 So after all that money you're buying mostly the same games but with not as good graphics, all mostly post-processing effects which the PS3 can't do because of the way it handles it's RAM. And exclusives look to be quite rare for the PS3 as development costs are so high and PS3 sell through figures are quite low, experts can say this and that but so far the game to console ratio is lower then one and there isn't exactly much interesting on the horizon in the way of PS3 exclusive.

How good or appealing an exclusive game is depends entirely on the opinions of the individual. I have a PlayStation 3 at the moment, and I don't regret it at all. There is nothing that the Xbox 360 has that appeals to me, so I chose to buy a PS3.
If I was going to buy a PlayStation 3, I'd buy the 60GB version from GAME. Assuming that the new "bundle" is £349.99 and comes with a choice of two games (from a predetermined short-list (as is the case with the current £424.99 bundle)); If you get yourself a GAME rewards card before (or while) you purchase the 60GB PS3, you will earn £7.50 in rewards points for doing so. Then trade in the two games you received as part of the bundle - (for the high valued games, you get £25 when you trade them in). You will now have a 60GB console and £57.50 to spend in GAME, all for £349.99. Obviously, I don't need to do this, as I already have a 60GB PlayStation 3, but that's what I'd do if I didn't have one .Phenom |

There really isn't any value when compared to the 60GB bundle other than someone being able to think that they can get a PS3 for less than £300 in my opinion. Strangely enough, the "less than £300" sentiment seems to hold true as I've read of a few people saying they will get one now as they can be had for just under £300.

I have 2 questions for you Phenom
1) I wantmy PS3 purely for gaming, so what will the extra £50 on the 60GB give me that I need ? 2) If I use your method, what will I get for the two game because I wont want them, I'll want Fifa 08. So I will buy the bundle at a price of £349 and then trade in the two games, how much will I get, roughly ? Cheers.

1.PlayStation 2 backwards compatability and a LAN cable in the box. You'll also have an extra 20GB storage space, too.
2.It depends entirely on which two games you get in the bundle. Some of the games are worth £25 and some are worth less. Generally speaking, the newer and more expensive games are worth more to trade in. Games like NBA 2K7 and Genji will be worth significantly less, because they can be bought for £18, anyway. Ask me again on Wednesday and I'll be able to give you a better answer .

I've done some rough sums and come to this conclusion; 40GB £299 (CONSOLE) + £39 (FIFA) = £338 60GB £349 (BUNDLE) + £39 (FIFA) = £388 - £20 (estimate of what I may get for 2 games) = £368 So in theory I'd only be paying £30 extra for the 60GB.

Yeah, I think you get a little less back if you take the cash, rather than put it on a gift card to use in store, though.
If you can choose games like Need For Speed, Ridge Racer and Fight Night - like you could with the old bundles - you'd get £25 back per game - so you could just swap them for FIFA 08. So you'd get the 60GB console and FIFA08 for the bundle price (£349.99) and you'd have some money left over on your gift card, to put towards whatever you like, too. Phenom |

I got my PS3 (60GB) with:- Ridge Racer 7; Resistance...; HDMI (v1.3) lead; and an extra controller- for £400- from 'Amazon'. So it was £440 including FIFA- not too bad considering I almost bought a PS3 back in March for £425- with no extras!!
![]() I'm glad that I waited. ![]() I've had no problems whatsoever, and no worry about that RLOD lalalala that the Xbox 360 is prone to... :-/
