Default Xbox 360 premium or elite ???

I'm going to get a Xbox 360, but I can't decide whether to go for the premium or elite. Could some one tell me the main differences ? Any feedback would be great, and if you could answer my questions that would be great.

- Does the elite have better graphics ?
- Is the elite worth £50 more ?
- Is there more chance of having the 3 red light problem with the premium ?
- As the elite is only a month or so old and the premium 2 years, will the elite be around longer in the games market ?
- Which of the 2 would you get/have or are getting ?
- Is the elite the safer option ?

Cheers.

The Elite is black and has a bigger hard drive So get the premium unless you download alot of demo's and videos.

To answer your questions: -

1. No the Elite doesn't have better graphics. Its effectively the same machine, only in black.

2. IMO yes it is worth the £50 more, as it has the 120gb HDD where the premium only has the bog standard 20gb HDD

3. Depends where you buy it, if for example you buy a premium off ebay or something and they've had it since its release, then the system has the possibility to overheat thus the red ring of death, however now since its been highlighted by users, the heatsink and other stuff have been changed (allegedly) and so the Elite and Premium (if purchased from a reputable retailer, then your not likely to suffer (i wouldn't gurantee it 100% from not happening, as at some point everything dies)

4.It'll be the same, they've already started phasing the core out, so the Premium will be the base console to purchase it the not to distant future.

5 & 6.As i said in 2. I'd get the Elite for £50 more just because of the HDD - I got the Core and other stuff from Ebay, and i've had no probs touch wood! I can't foresee any probs from either console. My brother has had the premium longer than i've had my core and he's had no probs neither.

Hope this helps

I just bought a new Xbox 360 Core today...My core system has completely stopped reading my discs from the "Please put disc, in a Xbox 360" error.

The Elite is essentially the same as the Premium, except a few extra, HDMI output & 120GB HDD are the notable differences... They *might* have replaced some of the solder of the heatsink & a few other things but there are multiple causes for the 3 red lights & they aren't all fixed... It is rumour that the Falcon line which is due out soon (another variation) may have the fixes to attempt to fully stop the 3 red light problem but I'm sketchy on the details of it... Nothing suggests it will be more expensive or different just more reliable but we will have to wait & see, overall it depends on if it's worth it for you.... Namely it's about "Do you want 120GB HDD or 20GB HDD?"

I'm not really very god with the technical sides of consoles, what will this add to the gaming experience, i.e will it make the graphics better ?

it wont do anything for graphics. the premium is the same as the elite. just that the elite has a bigger hard drive and is in black instead of white. i would say get the elite, theres alot more space for demos and videos, which is really worth it.

No, The graphics won't be changed at all, The main reason for this is to change essential hardware which would say improve graphics would be damaging to the consoles they have sold so that will not happen with any consoles. All I was mentioning is that there is more space to save games, or download demos on the Elite. The difference is otherwise very small.

Roughly how much more storage space is there in terms of how many games you can save at a time ?

Go for the Premium unless you have the money to spend on the better one.

Put it this way, no one has reached the limit by saving games, you can literally save thousands of games multiple times before running out of space. That is if you used it only for saving games, downloading demos take up alot of space (but you can delete them if you don't want to keep them) you can also store music on the console aswell which takes up space, but if you are only going to use it for saving games then go for the Premium... It'll serve the same purpose as the Elite except it'll be cheaper.

Saved games take up barely any space...It's demos, movies, and music that will take up most of the space. 20 gigs is plenty if you don't plan on downloading demos, movies and music.

Cheers for the advice people. As I'm going to use the console for gaming, I will go for the premium as I don't need the space for music, demos etc.

Cheers everyone.

You can find the premium for £199 on one online store, so if you don't need the extra features of the Elite then you have more spare cash to spend on games/accessories.

Moved to Off Topic.

@Carlitos , why dont you get the Xbox 360 bundled with Halo because they have the new Falcon motherboard and the smaller 65-nm CPU which will be much better than the original xbobx 360's.
You would then have an Updated New Falcon motherboard and 65-nm CPU inside , plus HDMI connection , this would be better than both original Elite or premium editions.

You will find one here:-

That isn't entirely true. It would seem only certain Lots have the new chip in the Halo 3 consoles!! Read the 'Official' 360 forums topic, were members' are attempting to track down the consoles with the new processor (worth the read).

http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx

Also, I should point out, the new Elite consoles at present, do not have the new processor within!!

I agree with that.

Don't get one at all until all the versions of the console have the new processor etc. It will significantly reduce the chances of the console breaking, and the whole thing will be quieter and cooler.

Just don't buy one until it is standard, thats my advice.

These two know what they are talking about .

I wouldn't recommend an Xbox 360 until they all have the new processor/heatsink in them, as they are (apparently) the cause of the Three Red Lights problem.

If you plan to download games from Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA), download and play demos and store im
