You can buy the new 120Gb HD for the 360 in most stores, or online.

Price tag starts at around £129.99 -

http://www.game.co.uk/Xbox360/Hardwa...d-Drive-120GB/

To install, you just slide off your existing HD and slide on the new one. Then switch the console on as normal and it should detect the new drive and format it. It may restart again; and you're good to go.

Anyone have any idea when this could be ?
The xBox members/forums are saying January to March 2008. The Halo 3 consoles are supposed to be rolling out the new CPu, but as stated in my last post on page 2, not all the new Halo 3 consoles have been given the 65nm Processor, some still appear to have the heat pipe and 90nm Processor.

It's all down to the Lot numbers of the consoles; and that is what people are currently reporting back to this topic, were people can then identify which console is an old version and which has been given the upgrade -

http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx

There's also pictures within the above link showing how to detect if your console has the new processor or not.

Cheers, that is a massive help.

I really don't think I can wait until January, never mind March.

So I will now be buying a 360 within the next week or so. And if, god forbid, it breaks down, at least you have the 3 year guarantee.

Thanks again.

I have a Core, Premium and an Elite now (all working, woo). Must admit my favourite is the Elite. Looks nice in black, the extra HD space is great and the HDMI support is what I really wanted (not all Premium and Cores have HDMI support and unlikely to filter through for a while yet).

Go Elite...you know it makes sense.

When you buy the premium, do you have to but a £60 adapter separately to play on line. ?

No, you don't need an adapter. Just shook up the internet cable to the back of the cousel. You will need to buy a Live Gold membership after a month of purchase to play on line. Oh, and get the Elite. I will probably upgrade by the end of the year.

To be honest I don't need that big a hard drive, as I only want to use it to play games not download stuff, and thats the only benefit, plus the HDMI cable.

I see where your coming from. I thought I wasn't going to need the HD space but now there is a lot more show in the market place that interest me and are worth a download.

Could you give me some examples please ?

Because I'm not getting the 360 till Monday, so I still have time to decide which one to go for.

I'd get the Halo 3 360 box Lot number 734 (ask the sales assistant to look at the box). They're the lot numbers with the new 'Falcon' 65nm processor. All other consoles, Elites too are still fitted with the 90nm processor, the very same thing that is known to be the brunt of all hardware faults in existing 360's!!!

The Elite's are far better to go for, less of a requirement to buy this add-on and that add-on later on when you realise you need it.

The demo games can be as high as 1.2Gb in size. I usually download 2 or 3 demos at a time, play them then delete them to make room for the next demos, as I only have the 20Gb console. Have to say, all consoles come laden with demos, screensavers and video demos. My 20Gb HDD is currently at 10.9GB. If you add mp3's to the hard drive to listen whilst you game, you're just gonna eat up your space, not to mention any system updates are gonna take just that little bit more in space too.

There's rumours of bringing content similar to Sony's PS3 freeview/sky offer to the 360. It'll come, but when, is anyones guess. You have to ask the question, why bring out a bigger HDD, if MS don't intend to have it filled with something other than games and music!!

But like I say, if you can get the gopping orange and green box Lot #734, then you're gonna be a happy bunny, if not, get used to hearing the air conditioning unit screeming away after a few hours!!

Thanks for the advice.

Although I've had a massive rethink and am very tempted to get the new 40GB PS3 as I feel it is he safer option.

To be honest, I'm thinking of getting the 60Gb or 80Gb PS3 also, just can't afford one at the moment, pah. As good as my 360 is, now with the rather large fan sat permanently in front of it to keep it cool, I think there will be a time the RRoD will occur. That will force me into a faster decision to get a PS3, if I haven't already saved to get one.

I like the fact that we may be able to download and watch sky programmes like Lost, etc on the PS3, something I've missed since channel 4 scrapped it, pah.

Get the Premium. The Elite is already having problems. Me and my friend were playing Halo3 online and his 360(Elite) kept on freezing, so he always had to restart almost every 20 minutes.

I would get the Elite, simply because you get 100 GB more storage than the Premium for only fifty quid more.

You need to ask for a console that is Lot #0734 or above. They're the consoles with the new chips. All other consoles still have the old 90nm processor (like mine) and are subject to dieing due to the processor melting everything inside (slowly).

To stop it freezing, if it's getting hot, stick a large desk fan in front of it!! That's what I have to do with mine and don't suffer from any 'heating' problems since doing it.
