“ Nancy! You’re going to be late for school!” Michael shouted up the stairs. Graham folded the newspaper he was reading and chewed on a piece of toast. Nancy came down with her backpack. “ Don’t forget your lunch!” Mike gave his daughter a lunchbox and a motherly kiss. “ Bye, darling!”
“ Bye, Dad!” Nancy hugged Graham and ran out the front door. The second the door slammed shut, Michael turned to his husband.
“ I’ve got a meeting about Around the World in 80 Days. Will you be OK by yourself for a few hours?” he asked. Graham grunted miserably. “ Still fighting that cold? Aww baby! Rest your head and you’ll be talking in no time.” He grabbed his man handbag and left.
The school bell rang. All the children chattered excitedly as they went in for their classes. Nancy and her best friend Bella sneaked behind the PE block. Bella had connections in high places because of her older sister and her boyfriend. At first, Nancy wasn’t so sure about it but she was soon convinced that she wouldn’t get in trouble.
“ Hey, Fancy-Nancy!” the idiotic fifteen year old greeted loudly with a cigarette and a beer can in his hands.
Nancy rolled her eyes. She didn’t like Xander at all because of his terrible, disgusting habits. He swore tremendously and he was awfully vulgar; especially about ***s which offended Nancy a lot. He spoke of ****ing and playing tongue tennis in front of the young, vulnerable, naïve girls. But on top of that, he was OK. At times, when he had a cigarette or two. He cracked good jokes, occasionally.
“ Hi Bella!” Bella’s sister, Josephine, said.
Josephine was like a stretched out version of Bella. She had shoulder length red hair which was like wool and her fringe was so thick that you couldn’t see her eyes. Her pink face was tattooed with freckles. She had small, round eyes which looked like very much two freckles. Her hands were fat like Bella’s and her nose was the opposite. It was perfectly dainty and elegant. Nancy was quite jealous of her nose but she was pleased with hers.
