Default Why is "Through Ball" more accurate than "Short Pass" on manual controls?

So I've really been trying to get the hang of this manual thing, but I have to say the short pass button seems extremely unreliable. I've found that passing with the through ball button to be the most reliable way to complete a ground pass. It seems as though the CPU defenders back off more when a through ball pass is played as a standard ground pass. For some reason, the short pass is not as accurate (especially in the final third for some reason) and gets cut off more easily.

--------------------------------

I play on Legendary btw, because I've found that teams on World Class press too much. The difficulty levels just seem really wack to me. Teams defend too well on Legendary, but at least they don't press as much. Teams press too much on World Class (resulting in a need to ping-pong the ball around to find the open man, which sucks b/c manual does not allow for ping-ponging) and counter right down your throat. Teams on pro make too many dumb mistakes and it's too easy to strip them of the ball, but offensively the game feels more fair. =/

i find the throuhg ball is very weak as an actual throuhg ball compared to the short pass. The short lalala is much more pwerful along with the lobbed pass compared to the lobbed through ball!

Also if you try to do a 1st time pass, they absolutely blaze it out for a goal kick! Even if you only slightly pressed the button.

I kind of agree with you, I've found the sensitivity of the pass button to be completely random at times, I think it takes into account the players' stats in terms of power and accuracy, the speed the ball is travelling (for first time passes) and when it's raining, the weather and it can result in some really unpredictable passing.

Throughball not only seems to make your players respond differently, but the defensive ai too.

e.g LCM passes into space in between LM and LB, if you use pass button the LM stops his run and comes back to collect the ball. If you use throughball the LB runs forwards onto the ball.

I still play the game manually just for the moments of satisfaction when you sit back and think 'I couldn't do that with assisted controls' but it still needs a lot of work.

I've only starting playing using manual controls since Monday because I got bored and annoyed with the constant ping-pong you get in assisted ranked games, which turns into anger because you've lost to a complete donkey. I've found that it is more relaxed and enjoyable especially when you string together some nice attacking play with skill etc. Also I think its best to play with longer halves; like 7 to 10 mins.

Isn't it funny how the short pass button is less effective for short passes? =/

8 min halfs are pretty good on manual. I think it gives you a good amount of time to break down an extra stubborn defense and stoppage time isn't too short. I use the wall pass alot with my fullbacks and that seems to help with first time passes...I do agree that 1st time passes are hard but with a little practice you can really make them come off.

In 09 they are near impossible but in 10 I've played some wonderful flicks by tapping the lead pass button and laying it into an oncoming outside midfielders path for a shot on the edge of the box. Also try using 1st touch on the RS in unision with the left stick in whatever direction your passing towards. RS is huge for me on manual.
