Default *** Online Connection Fix ***

I dont take credit for this; this was found on the Call of Duty 4 forums.....but it worked for me straight up, first time, no issues, no hang ups, worked perfectly!! I can now connect 100% of the time when playing online!!

-------------------------------------------------------

Putting your PS3 into a DMZ (demilitarized zone) simply opens all of the ports on it.

If you have the following problems, this is likely to fix it.
Not being able to join rooms
Not being able to speak over your headset
Not being able to hear other people over their headset
Not being able to join private games
Any problems to do with connectivity to the PSN, especially if your computer will connect to the internet, but your PS3 won't.

Part 1-(On PS3)

Firstly, you will need to assign your PS3 a static internal IP address.

Normally whenever a device connects to your router it will be assigned a different internal IP address. These are normally 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4 and so on. Assigning a static one will ensure that your PS3 will get the same one every time it connects.

Go to the "Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings" option on the PS3 XMB. Choose whether you are using wireless or wired.

Both selections should show a page called "Address Settings". Here you will need to select "Custom".

Another page will then display entitled "IP Address Setting". The option "Manual" will need to be selected.

This will display a page where customizable IP Addresses are available to be entered.

IP Address - This will need to have the Static IP address in it. Use 192.168.1.80, simply because it is unlikely that 80 other devices will be connected at the same time.

Subnet Mask - always set to 255.255.255.0

Default Router - Is the internal IP Address of your router.

To get the exact ip of your router you should go to
Start
Run
cmd [Hit Enter]

(Or if you are on a Mac, About This Mac>More Info>Network)

Type in ipconfig and hit enter, this should come up with all the ip addresses to do with your computer and the network. The address you will need to enter in this option is listed as "Default Gateway".

Primary DNS - Same IP Address as "Default Router"

Secondary DNS - Same IP Address as "Default Router"

Proxy When you get to the proxy screen, select "Do not use Proxy"

MTU Automatic

UPnP Enabled

Part 2-(On PC)

In your Internet Browser, type the address of your default gateway, this will take you to your Router Configuration Page. Look for any mention of DMZ.

When you have found this, it will ask you for the Static IP of the DMZ host. This is simply the Internal IP that you assigned your PS3. We used 192.168.1.80.

Finally, turn off your Router, PC and PS3 for a few minutes to ensure that the new settings are loaded. Then your ready to go!

People have tried the DMZ and still getting issues. Worth a shot though if you haven't tried it.

this fixes it 100% all the way, i promise! do NOT port forward.

follow the steps above exactly and the connections will be resolved. those who say that the DMZ does not work are NOT doing it correctly.

IF YOU WANT YOUR CONNECTION ISSUES FIXED..........DO THE STEPS ABOVE! It fixes it 100% of the way.

In fact, EA does not need to do anything. Their previous reply that they don't see an issue is in fact correct. There is NO ISSUE. Fix it using DMZ, period.

EA, all is good......nothing for you to fix.

This does not work on the BT Homehub as you cannot assign a Static IP and have a dmz on it. Its a piece of absolute lalalalae!

Er...no. The Homehub won't allow it. It must be on an dynamic IP for dmz.

No matter, port forwarding and turning Firewalls off on the Homehub do work, which in essence is more than a dmz does and it still doesn't work.

How do you work out that "I'm doing something wrong"?

Why would everyone be on a dmz, at severe risk of hijacked internet connection to make a game work? Honestly, have a word with yourself!

you're a noob. port forwarding and turning off firewalls is NOT more than a DMZ set-up.

port forwarding only forwards ports for whatever ports you tell it to forward.

DMZ-ing forwards ALLLLLL ports....which in turn is BETTER than port forwarding.

Everyone, pay no attention to what AyrshireCSC says here....it's bogus. do not port forward, just DMZ and you will have 100% connections on all your games, not just FIFA.

HAHA! Clearly you have no idea what your talking about.

Do you know what disabling a firewall does??? It opens all ports. DMZ is only needed if you want to setup a specific connection with ports open.

Noob HAHAHA. You honestly think that I would still be having a problem if it was a ports issue?

Grade a C-ock you are mate. Now, jog on.

I agree with Ayrshire it is risky business especially if you also use your PS3 for internet searching and stuff.

Also you risk having you PC/Laptop hijacked and buggered. You are open to the world to see your business

It will probably work the games fine 99% of the time but you are at risk by following this.

Nothing against the original poster as he intends to help but people should beaware of what they are opening upto.

Thank you for proving my point.....that you know NOTHING about what you are doing.

In your earlier post you said you used port forwarding AND disabled firewalls....which you're right, opens up ports for all your connections....but why would you want all ports for ALL connections open (like on your PC's and such)? This leaves you vulnerable to outside threats.

NOW, MY approach is to DMZ......which opens all ports for a SPECIFIC IP address.....the PS3 address (or Xbox).......but still keeps your firewall in place to protect your PC's/Mac's.

You're the idiot. You opened ports and disabled your firewall.......I'm telling people to set up a static IP address for their PS3 and DMZ that IP to open all ports for only that IP address, thus ALLOWING THEM TO PLAY ANY GAME PERFECTLY ONLINE!

Your completely missing my point! We have tried dmz's and turning firewalls off(which both do the same thing) and the lalalalaing game still doesn't work! How many times do we have to repeat this! Its a server issue!

You said "It works 100% with all games" which is absolute balls, it does not work on Fifa 10!!!!

you're wrong.

i never said disable your firewall.......in fact, KEEP YOUR FIREWALL ON!

read the steps.....no where does it say disable a firewall. only a moron would disable thier firewall.

the steps say to DMZ........which apparently those who are arguing with me have NO FREAKIN' idea what DMZ does.

fine by me......you all can either do the steps or not. if you do the steps like i said, you can play online 100% of the time with ZERO security risks.

if you don't want to do the steps, then by all means, keep getting connection errors and suffer.

EA isn't going to fix it because............THERE IS NOTHING FOR EA TO FIX. It's fine.

i'm off to play FIFA online with those who know how to DMZ and are playing too. the rest of you, enjoy your "connection failed" attempts!

LOL

Listen you absolute monkey! See the number of posts on here with people, including myself, who have had a dmz on and firewalls off, ports forwarded, everything, yet are still unable to play 9 out of 10 games in Fifa 10 ...we must all be wrong!

Fifa 09, COD in fact ANY other game works fine on a DMZ or ports forwarded but Fifa 10 DOES NOT WORK! It may work for you, but for the rest of us IT DOES NOT!

1. put your router and ps3 back to default settings......fresh start.
2. follow my steps outlined above exactly.
3. do NOT disable firewalls
4. do NOT do individual port forwarding
5. you will now be able to play FIFA 2010 and ALL games online 100% of the time perfectly.

If following these steps do not work, then you messed up somewhere. Restart from scratch and try again.

EA will NOT fix it because there is nothing wrong and nothing for EA to fix. So either do what I'm telling you and fix it so you can play games online and have fun............OR, don't do it and keep complaining about a "problem" that doesnt exist on some internet forum while the rest of us are playing games.

buh-bye.......

Dear god! Your just not getting this are you, IT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME OR THE OTHERS WHO ARE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION! I KNOW PERFECTLY WELL HOW TO SETUP A DMZ AS I HAD IT FOR FIFA 09 AND COD5 (WORKED PERFECTLY)!

FIFA 10 HAS A SERVER PROBLEM! PROOF YOU SAY? UOTRACE. Connectivity failed to two of the 20 servers! Loads of people with the same result. Its an EA ISSUE lalala!
