Issues with Playing Matches Online, Please help

I dunno if I'm doing anything wrong or what. But whenever I play a Quick Ranked match I'm never at Home! I'm always Away. Is the only way to be able to do this to create a game session myself?

Also whenever I am in the Lobby it says Xbox Communication Priviledges limited. So I can't speak with anyone or invite them to play games. How do I sort that out?

I know I sound a bit of a n00b but if anyone can help I'd grately appreciate it.
