FIFA 10 Freezing during gameplay- please help!

Hi all, this is my first post, so go easy on me!

I have been experiencing freezing/lagging issues when playing the game. This occurs in the Practice Arena and during matches (online and offline)- the game seems to seize up, allow for 1-2 seconds of normal play, and then freeze again! During this time, the console seems to be continuously accessing the hard drive.

The problem seems to be intermittent, as I am sometimes able to play 2-3 matches without seeing the problem, but eventually the freezing will occur. After quitting and re-launching game problem will still persist. Only after turning console off and then on again offers some relief- until freezing occurs again.

Has anyone else experienced this, and can anyone help?!

My Setup:
Slim PS3 running 3.0.1
FIFA 10 has been updated to 1.01

Things I have already attempted:
I have deleted saved game data and reinstalled 1.01 at least twice
Removed all user data, including game saves etc.
Formatted hard drive of PS3, starting afresh

Perhaps thinking that it was my console, I have been testing three other games thoroughly, and they all function properly without ANY errors.

I have had this exact same problem. I first had the defect in FIFA 09 and made a post about it but with no response and it got lost to to bottom of the boards.

I don't have this problem with any other games except occasionally in Madden and it's not as bad as in FIFA 09, FIFA 10 Demo and FIFA 10.

When the freezing occurs I have to pause the game and wait for the HDD to catch up with it's self then continue with the gameplay. Sometimes I can go 2-3 matches with no problems and some stadiums are far worse than others.

After finding the probmlem with the demo I too have deleted all game save, formated the PS3 ready for the full game release but to no avial.

I do hope you can get some response EA PWride.

I have exactly the same problem, i posted about it the other day but had no replies.

At first i couldn't get through any menus without it freezing, then i couldnt get through a game, now it can get through a game but not extra time - both on and off line. Its happened in the arena as well.

The noise that comes from my HDD is horrible, it cant be any good for it.

Also, when i try to play on line it asks if i want to download the updated squad lists and you press ok, then it says something like new 'squads lists available' and you press ok and then its asks something like 'are you sure' if i press yes i get YLOD and the system shuts down - if i press no it just proceeds to the team select screen!!!!

Im not sure if its a problem with down loading updates and squads but i have never had any truoble like this with a game before and fear it may have wrecked my PS3.

Thanks for your reply EA_PWride, I look forward to any news! Most people seem to have no such problems with FIFA 10, but after searching on the net, clearly there are a handful of people experiencing similar diffculties.

Yep the same thing happens to me, sometimes it doesnt' for 2-3 games but then it does after for like a 2-3 second pause, its quite worrying so im wondering what to do? I dont know whether its the FIFA 10 game, PS3 SLIM console (250GB) or the HDMI cable but i dont know yet if i should exchange it for a new one anytime soon?
Do you think problems like these are patchable through updates or not and di anyone have FIFA 09 and have the same problems, what did you do?

Hi there,

Just to give a quick update. I have further tested the game on a couple of other PS3 systems (with the latest firmware etc.). The game disc worked fine on both consoles, which must mean that I have an issue with my own hardware. Not really sure what the ailment is, as all my other games work, but shall be contacting Sony.

Not sure if the others having issues are having hardware problems, but the cause of my difficulties has been found- PS3 hardware :-(

PS3 hard ware, that's what I was worried about. But it only happens on FIFA. Madden has just as many variables and if not more animations in it and that stutters maybe 1 in 100 times and is only for 3 seconds or so.

I will be interested to hear your response from Sony. Could you please post on here what was said.

what update/firmware version is it that occurs this problem on FIFA 10? because its so frusterating whether its the game or system.

Mine freezes during gameplay. but doesn't come back on. I was playing a Be A Pro game, had scored a bloody hat-trick as well, and game froze and I had to exit the game completely.

I'm on a normal (not slim) ps3 with 320gb hd, with the latest system update and Fifa10 with the latest update too.

So many bugs, it's not on. Almost completely ruining a great game.

Looks like this happened to other people alot with 09 as well, some even 08 and some have it happen on themajority of EA games.

I don't think is the hardware as its happening to all versions of the PS3, from day 1 purchases to recenlty bought slims, plus every other game i have works. If it is the hardware - then i think Fifa 10 is the cause of the initial problem.

mine freezes when trying to load manager mode and only way is to resart system, i luckily have 1 manager mode running but am unable to start another with my low league team.
I have tried another copy of fifa and get same problems also my hard drive light flashes a lot and sometimes stays on and the hard drive is very noisy, its a upgraded 40gb to 160gb which has been fine until now, is there any way of sorting it?

Hi. I have similar issues. So does a couple of my friends.

I have two games in manager mode, which i can`t load. When i try, the game freezes.

Its really irritating! The fist game, Im in 2011. The second game I started after the main save would`nt load. Then, suddenly, my new game also freezes. So, then, i have too restart my Xbox, but what does that help for? I can`t load my saves anyway.....

I play Fifa because of the manager mode. If this "thing" ruins our saves for good, people will get very very angry!

I want to play, but i CAN`T!

Please, fix this!!!!!!

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but I'm hoping this might help toward figuring this problem out...

I have a strong feeling this is to do with the Fifa10 Profile being corrupt.

I have the same / similar issue with mine freezing upon getting to the arena the whirly thing stops and i cannot access the menu, pressing start makes it freeze - or if I take 1 shot with my pro it freezes all the same. Funnily enough if I dont press start on title screen to enter arena, the tutorial videos play through no problem.

Have checked if freezing was to do with EA server, but same happens if i sign out and reload the game offline. Checked Fifa09 (I still have it); it worked and started online game no problem. All other games work fine. Ejected and wiped Fifa10 Disc, deleted game update data. Re-downloaded. Same problem, wiped Disc down 2nd time and this time it worked ok. Played some online games in club and all fine. Played offline - a game of my Be A Pro Season. Fine.

Then after one match of Season, went in to edit my formation. Only 2 players remained (the CBs), all other players had been changed to orange icons, GKs or something, and all with crazy stats like -1980923. Clicked a weird player and it froze the game. On restarting I'm back to square 1. Arena freezes.

In my Save Game data I deleted BAP Season from Fifa09 and then found a corrupt data icon between Fifa09 and Fifa10 saves. Deleted this but still no solution.

What is going on here? I'm guessing if I delete my Fifa10 Profile everything will work again, but don't tell me that means I lose ALL my Pro's progress so far! PLEASE don't tell me that's the only way, I have spent AGES getting him somewhere and he's still only halfway there.

Be A Pro: Seasons
Squads 1
Game Face 1
Online Squad

OK, so can anyone please answer me this: Which one(s) contain my Pro's attributes and traits?

Also: if I copy these files to a USB stick, will it be as simple as copying them back over if i want to restore them? (I know some games don't let you restore a Save Game Data)

I too have the same problem as you,but i dont think it is the hardware of the ps3,beceause I have 2 accounts on my ps3 using both fifa 10,and the problem only occurs on 1 account,beceause my second account on ps3 playing fifa 10,works just fine and that is strange,i can play clubs online and everything else.But we need a solution for this beceause I dont want 2 delete my virtual pro and all my accomplishments.

I've had the same issue but its only coming online. Leaving me to have to restart my Xbox. Immediately following I haven't been able to connect to Online Teamplay, or Pro Ranked or Pro Club matches. However ranked, and unranked head-to-head are still working without a hitch.

I have the same problem and I have a ps3 60gb first gen. At first it froze after about 30 mins of gameplay. Now it freezes after 10 mins.
The thing is, when i play a game, all of a sudden the commentary stops, then the crowd stops. Dead sillent in the field. Then i can't see the scoreboard anymore. At the half/full time, i can't see the menu.
I have to quit the game, because I can't do anything, I mashed all the buttons.
When I quit the game, it doesn't go to the main screen, it restarts with a double beep.
It's the only game I have trouble with.

Please someone help, make a patch or something. It's really anoying. I'd buy a new slim ps3, but I read that it has the same problem, if you'r unlucky.

Hi All,

If anyone is having the problem i described above (possibly corrupt pro data where arena freezes and won't let you in to menu), i have a temporary solution.

I have found that just pressing start quickly works as soon as the arena shows, and before the whirly thing stops loading. This will get you into the menu and let you play games again. You may find that the arena still freezes every few goes (i still think the pro file has become corrupt) but at least you can play a few games..


Hope that helps somebody.

Don't know if anyone has tried this but I was having the same problem and was checking these forums so when someone mentioned about it happening when the game is accessing the hard drive it gave me a thought so I turned off the auto save feature and I was playing it for about 2 hrs last night with no freezing. Try that and see if it works! Let me know the results guys.
