Default Fodder's Fifa10 Advice...

This is for people who have started to play Fifa 10 and have not noticed all that much change from Fifa 09 or who are struggling to get to grips with the new gameplay mechanics.

For me the game initially felt great, everything was improved, the controls give a real freedom, you learn that you have to play the game a different way to Fifa 09, you have to play more real football, as you learn to play real football you get better and feel even better about the new game.

After a while you get more comfortable with the new game and start taking more risks in your play making, longer balls, longer range shots, clever through balls and all that. At this point you're at risk of returning to your 09 playing style, I did.

As soon as you start to play like you did on 09 you stop feeling the improvements as much with Fifa 10. You start using the pressing button and chase people down and the frustration starts to get to you. The computer starts to do better against you and is exploiting the gaps in your defence because your running around chasing the ball. The game starts to feel scripted, downward spiral from here.

You take a step back, wait a minute, you were playing well and felt that Fifa 10 was a brilliant game, now what are you doing wrong. You have to think again about how you're playing football, you have to wipe all memory of Fifa 09, play football for the love of football, not because your trying to beat a game. Play the ball around midfield, don't sprint everywhere, stand off their attacker and don't let him pass, don't charge at every opportunity, play backwards if you have to to create space, hold the ball up and look for a runner instead of trying long through balls.

Fifa 10 is the game that you want it to be, if you let it be. The AI is much improved so at times you may feel hard done to, I do, when I've done everything I can for 85 minutes and then they score a 25 yarder out of nothing, grrrr, but that's football, I should have taken my chances earlier in the match and now I'm punished for not doing so.

As for momentum, yes I do feel that this plays a part but for both sides. Many a time I've struggled in a game but then decided to go for it in the last 10 minutes and have about 90% possesion for that 10 minutes and create chance after chance, corner after corner. Again, that's football.

Play the game because you enjoy beautiful football, not because you want to beat the game.

I have seen a large chunk (if not the entirety) of this text somewhere else before (here, of course), anyway, a very good point.

At last a mature post.

Been playing throughout the night and I totally agree with the calm down on the chasing and pressing. As soon as I stood back and exploiited spaces I was not only doing better but actually playing a proper football match.

You need to think more and will then enjoy the benefits.

Also loving the Be a Pro, though still in the Crewe reserves!!

That's because I've posted this before in response to other posts but I thought it deserved it's own thread. All words are my own.

Awesome!

I was going to post a similar story but you have hit the nail on the head!

There are so many people complaining about FIFA 10 and it's purely because they haven't give it time!

I picked up my copy at midnight last night and have only had chance to play 2 games against the CPU and YES it is harder, the passing, the closing down of the opposition when you have the ball (gonna love the tactical warfare!) the shooting is more difficult yet already after 2 games it feels more realistic, how EASY was it to score in 09 with the finesse shot on the angle! How EASY was it to just sprint past a player and rifle a shot in on goal, that element of the game has gone and for me it's a POSITIVE as you now have to work for that chance to have a pop at goal with some constructive build up play.

I think half the problem is that people are just diving in with the game and expecting it to play exactly like 09, yet a little more refined, NOPE, that's not the case, there is so much to do in the game and the fact that they've added a TRAINING MODE suggests that the majority should spend some time there, instead of getting into the game too quickly and being left frustrated!

The mechanics have changed and it's just going to take time, good job I've got another 12 months to refine my skills before FIFA 11 comes out!

For me it's the REAL footy fans game, hard luck on all you sprint and shooters, that's NOT how the beautiful game is played!

I was beating Barca with Chelsea 4-0 and 5-0 one day on World class, then the next day they thrash me 5-0.

Can we keep this thread to discussions about Fifa. My post isn't a wall of text, it has paragraphs! If you want a summary then read the last line. Thanks.

Check my videos on youtube if you want to see how I score, quite a variety (link in my sig).

I play a patient style of game, I build up slow but I like to spread the play a lot between wings. When there's a chance of a through ball or a ball over the top then I'll go for it and if there's a chance of a long range shot then I'll go for it.

Sorry, the irony is too much. Zola, you're rock climbing, checking your mini-book and worrying about not having enough time in the 21st century. To summarize for you, SLOW down to play Fifa10. J/K But I couldn't resist....
