Manager Mode Questions and Answers

Can we change the stadium once we start a manager mode? I know you mentioned before manager mode we can re-name/swap stadiums, but what if I start with a Division Two club in a small stadium. When I reach EPL can I upgrade it to a big one?

Also, I noticed in some of the manager mode screenshots that the wages seemed low? Are wages scaled to resemble somewhat real-life, or are they all scaled down to some EA system? I noticed Ledesmas salary was only 2,140, I think he is on more like 7,00 a week?

Oh yay I remembered my question!

Will your transfer budgets be reset after every season? Or added on to? Or do you start with a certain budget and it only changes based on how you buy/sell players?

For instance- If I start out with $5 million, would it be wise to spend all of it in my first season because the board will just give me more money next season? Or is it more like 09?

Unfortunately while the impact on the game is rather minimal (how often did you watch them? maybe once or twice), they are really time and money consuming to produce. thank you for answering my question, im looking foward to that, and i did watch the videos once in a while, sometimes these things motivate you to try and do the same thing in the game for example watching a team in a relegation battle and eventually staying the premier league makes you want to play with that team and try to do the same, you know. I love arsenal and everytime i watch one of their dvds it straight away makes me want to go and play fifa with arsenal, like a few months ago after watching their unbeaten season review i went and played manager monde and tried to achieve that, so i think adding a few vidoes of teams or specific moments of the season is a huge plus.

another thing is also about the commentary, for every match (against a big club or a small club) it was always the same comentary, in the game EURO 2008 in each match it had at least one sentence about the two teams playing against each other like who won last time around etc, i think a few top teams should have a few of their own commentary lines especaily arsenal and manchester united matches, in in fifa 07 or 08 in ps2 version of the games before each derby they showed stats how many times the two teams played against each other and how many time they won/draw/ lost (example inter v milan)
i think these small things make a big difference

...every day, I read through all the posts and pick the ones that will provide you with the most information, entertain you and last but not least the ones that I will enjoy to answer. So far this thread has been going really strong, and I have a feeling that it will be going like this for quite a while...

Yesterday these where the ones I picked, main reason being that there's only one other thing that I like to talk more about than Manager Mode in FIFA 10...and that's football and the stories sourrounding it. That's what we chatted about yesterday...without further due, back to Manager Mode.

...to whatever you please. I've promised to confirm this before, but I didn't get around to it yet. That being said, I am very close to 100% sure that setting your created player to 99 is possible in FIFA 10. I will confirm this tomorrow, please remind me if I don't ;-)...

Has the underdog AI been looked at? In FIFA 09 it was extremely common to play teams like Man United and win (presumably because of their open attacking formation), then you'd play someone like Tranmere and lose 2-0 (presumably because they play so defensively you can't move - yet their attack doesn't seem to suffer).
[MK] Despite reading around in the forums a bit, it's the first time I hear the term underdog AI. I don't think this is related to specific tweaks that we make to the AI, but the the tatical settings these teams use. Also it might be related to your playing style...maybe expand on what you exactly mean by some teams having a stifling defense and list what formation and tatical settings they play with.

Also, I agree with the guys above who have said the Europa League rules not being implemented is very disappointing (seeing as you'll be playing in a competition that doesn't exist any more, not very "Total Football" ). Is there any small chance that the real Europa League structure (EFA in FIFA) will be added before release?
[MK] No, chance - has to do with the issues we have with our tournament scheduling engine, we were only able to fix a very limited amount of things as it's very finicky and time intesive to tweak it. Introducing the proper Europa League logic would have been one of the tougher things to do...and also one of the tougher things to let go :-(.

Finally, I haven't seen this answered yet; can you set the assistant manager to make substitutions during matches?
[MK] When the game starts everything is up to you - it's like in the real world. When the going gets tough the main manager makes all the decisions. One of the other reasons is, that in the menus you can still change the line-up your assistant proposes, in the game the decision to substitute is hard to reverse...unless we'd suggest a sub and then let you accept or reject the suggestion. Hey, we're adding a feature here...has to be for coming FIFA's though, let me know if that's something you'd like to see added.

Marcel have you managed to follow up on any of the issue's i mentioned earlier. The ones below you said you'd get back to me on.

1.) When you create Custom team tactics will it stay on those tactics when you start your next match. On Fifa 09, when you start the next match it reverts back to the Default tactics which is annoying.
[MK] QA is testing this currently - I will get back to you on that one.

5.) Will the EFA and ECC final be played at a different stadium each season? It seems a waste playing the European final at a Generic stadium when there's so many great real European stadiums in the game.
[MK] It will be the same stadium, we are not randomizing the stadium AFAIK - I will look into this one as well.
[MK] While I agree this is a great idea we didn't account for it from the get-go and couldn't sneak it in in the end.

Randomizing the ECC/EFA finals at real stadiums would be good because it would make the finals more of a showpiece playing in great stadia like the Nou Camp and San Siro plus it would add variety knowing it's going to be at a different stadium each season in your career.

The numbers and batches after promotions is not happening. We simply can't redo these are assets once they are in the game.

..I prefer to work hard for my 99 rated players and since a certain C. Ronaldo is the highest rated player in the game somewhere between 90-95, it feels a bit weird to have a 99 rated guy.

...on the pop-up. But we have a new stat screen that tracks the assists. So you can find out who the top assist givers in the league are.

...Hinkel should come back to Stuttgart. He actually scored a nice goal in Celtics CL-qualifying match and cleared a couple of times on the line...

Back to the toppic (some people don't like when I digress too much ;-))...these screens are a couple of weeks old, since then the logic which player goes where has been further refined. Not saying it's impossible that Hinkel goes to Frosinone but highly unlikely...and after all you don't know in which season that was, maybe at that time Frosinone ha been promoted and is looking to add some experience in the back ;-).

That is what you said in the blog, yet if that is true then I am pretty shocked. Torres costing under 24m? Also a few of the prices should be higher.
[MK] Always is a tough one because a lot of the logic we apply is based on atributes and future potential - if there's a player that is not that highly rated in our game and/or doesn't have a potential that will make him grow in the coming years, he will cost a little bit less.

On a brighter note, when it says "Your side is too strong", does that mean when you get to a certain state no one will sign for you. (Like 8 seasons in with all high levels) How are you dealing with that.
[MK] Players will always be interested in successful clubs, but the 18 year old that is currently rated 50 overall, might be concerend about getting playing time in Liverpool where all players are rated 80+. All that being said, this only reduces the chance to sign him and you might have to sweeten the deal a bit to convince him to join ;-).

Also, as a liverpool fan, I am a bit angry that on the sim we were only fourth, but that is just me. We scored less than Arsenal, which is unrealistic because we overscored everyone last season, however I do see the improvement.

Also got a question. When you said, you have to say "Yay" or "Nay", for a player for if you want several in the same position, does that mean you can overspend your budget (when you put an offer in for one player, the budget doesnt go down to what it would be)?
[MK] You got it, the money only gets removed at the point when you sign the player. That means you still can't overspend on your budget, but you can bid on multiple players that are within you budget limits.
