Thanks guys; I still don't have the game as of yet, but I can still do quite a few updates without it.

Also guys, if I can manage to work the kinks out of the idea, every ten or so updates I will create a PDF of what I've posted so far for you guys to look through without having to sort through everyone's replies.

The Road to Werder: The Scientist

Despite dreams of an illustrious playing career accompanied with trophy after trophy, I feel as though deep-down, I was destined to become a coach. As a child growing up just streets away from the hallowed turf of the Weserstadion, I always felt a deep connection with the green and white of Werder; but interestingly enough, my idol was Otto Rehhagel. Not Schaaf, Riedle or Braseth, Rehhagel; Bremen's talismanic coach for an amazing 14 years, transformed the club into a Bundesliga powerhouse. In my opinion, it was my desire to match his impact at the club which spurred me to approach my career the way I did.

By the time I had turned 16; it had become apparent that I wouldn't make my name on the field. Several attempts to enter academy sides had left me fully aware of how poor a player I was. However, I still wanted to make a career in football, and bar becoming a journalist, coaching seemed to be the logical step.

My father, who had coached my teams for as long as I could remember, took me under his wing and taught me the basics of coaching as we submitted ourselves to the proverbial nightmare that is coaching junior football season after season. Early weekend mornings, screaming children, abusive parents; it was one hell of a ride. Thanks to him, I had already obtained a wealth of experience before my 21st birthday.

From there I pushed forward into the mists of coaching, asking anyone and everyone for advice on how to become better. This is probably the best advice I can give to any aspiring coach; always ask questions, because there is always something new for you to learn.

As I entered my thirties after several years of coaching various youth sides in the region with modest success, I embarked on the path towards professional qualification; enrolling in the UEFA C Licence course. As I slowly worked my way through the courses (A, B and C Licences), I began to receive offers not only from clubs in Germany, but from places as far away as America, Indonesia and Australia. I turned them down however, my heart set on Werder, my ambition to better Rehhagel still burning in my soul.

Just when my resolve had started to wane after months of waiting, I received an offer beyond my wildest dreams.

Assisstant Coach of Werder Bremen.
