:: Newcastle Football Club ~ Flight of the Magpie :: ![]() Newcastle United were founded in 1892 and since then Newcastle have won The First Division (Which is the Premier League equivalent) four times, they have lifted the FA Cup a massive six times and lifted the Community Shield once, they have many other successes too. Now, with their relegation to the Championship for the first time for many years, they should definitely fly back up towards the great light of the Premiership. With Chris Hughton finally getting their act together, and with so many transfers in and out things could be changing all and about at Newcastle. Could there be an even bigger change at the club as Mike Ashley tries to offload the club to foreign investors? Throughout the Toon's history it has been proud and prestigious, but now they are stuck in between the high and the low leagues and with their star potential in their squad there could be some unrest. Can Hughton keep his men under control? Can Ashley sell the club? What is the future of Newcastle? Is it time for them to take flight and dominate throughout? ![]() ![]() Chris Hughton Current Job: Caretaker Manager Date of Birth: December 11, 1958 Age: 50 Nationality: Republic of Ireland Playing Position: Fullback Teams Played for: Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Brentford International Team: Republic of Ireland International Caps: 53 :: Quick Information :: Chris Hughton has been the manager of Newcastle since the end of last season, replacing Alan Shearer as Caretaker manager. In his playing career he has played for three clubs, two being current Premier League giants, West Ham and Tottenham and the other being Brentford. Then he would go on to play three consecutive injury ravaged seasons, two with West Ham and then the final one with Brentford, in which he then retired at the age of thirty four. Then at the age of thirty nine he made his first jump into his managing career with his first club Tottenham as assistant manager to Martin Jol in 1998. Then in 2008 he was sacked along with Martin Jol after they lost against Getafe in the UEFA Cup group stages, and then before to long Newcastle acquired his services, and during that time he became caretaker manager three times (including being caretaker manager with Colin Calderwood) and this time looks to be his most successful yet. ![]() St.James Park Owner: Freeman of Newcastle upon Tyne Opened: 1892 Capacity: 52,387 Surface: Grass Tenants: Newcastle United Football Club :: Quick Information :: St. James Park is an all-seater stadium in England and is the home of Newcastle United Football Club. It is the oldest and largest stadium in the North East, and also the seventh largest stadium in the United Kingdom with a capacity when full of 52,387. This stadium is located in the centre of Newcastle, its white roof is visible across the city and is the largest cantilever in all of Europe. Occupied by the Toon Army fan-base in the Milburn Srand, or East Stand in the Leazes End and the Gallowgate End, this ground has been the home ground of Newcastle since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880. Throughout its history the desire to expand has caused conflict with local residents and council due to it being in the central city. Besides club football, St James' Park has also been used for international football, and will be used as a football venue for the 2012 Olympics. In addition to professional football, the stadium has hosted charity football events, rock concerts, and been used as a film set and for reality television shows.

![]() :: Transfers overview :: Yes that is right, Newcastle have acquired four new players over a month period, roughly. Some of these players include some top Premiership talent such as Zurab Khizanishvili, Marlon Harewood and Peter Lovenkrands and the other signing is young Manchester United fullback Danny Simpson. Newcastle haven't had to spend a penny of any of these players, as three of them have joined on loan and one of them have joined on a free transfer. Three of these players (the ones that have come on loan) have joined from Premiership clubs so the teams in the Championship had better look out as this should be an easy league, although many of the Premiership's greatest have failed.
