Default :: Newcastle Football Club ~ Flight of the Magpie ::

:: Newcastle Football Club ~ Flight of the Magpie ::
Name: Newcastle United Football Club
Nicknames: The Magpies ; The Toon
Founded: 1892
Owner: Mike Ashley
Manager: Chris Hughton (Caretaker Manager)
League: The Championship
Newcastle United were founded in 1892 and since then Newcastle have won The First Division (Which is the Premier League equivalent) four times, they have lifted the FA Cup a massive six times and lifted the Community Shield once, they have many other successes too.

Now, with their relegation to the Championship for the first time for many years, they should definitely fly back up towards the great light of the Premiership. With Chris Hughton finally getting their act together, and with so many transfers in and out things could be changing all and about at Newcastle. Could there be an even bigger change at the club as Mike Ashley tries to offload the club to foreign investors?

Throughout the Toon's history it has been proud and prestigious, but now they are stuck in between the high and the low leagues and with their star potential in their squad there could be some unrest.

Can Hughton keep his men under control? Can Ashley sell the club? What is the future of Newcastle? Is it time for them to take flight and dominate throughout?

Chris Hughton
Current Job: Caretaker Manager
Date of Birth: December 11, 1958
Age: 50
Nationality: Republic of Ireland

Playing Position: Fullback
Teams Played for: Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Brentford
International Team: Republic of Ireland
International Caps: 53

:: Quick Information ::
Chris Hughton has been the manager of Newcastle since the end of last season, replacing Alan Shearer as Caretaker manager. In his playing career he has played for three clubs, two being current Premier League giants, West Ham and Tottenham and the other being Brentford. Then he would go on to play three consecutive injury ravaged seasons, two with West Ham and then the final one with Brentford, in which he then retired at the age of thirty four.

Then at the age of thirty nine he made his first jump into his managing career with his first club Tottenham as assistant manager to Martin Jol in 1998. Then in 2008 he was sacked along with Martin Jol after they lost against Getafe in the UEFA Cup group stages, and then before to long Newcastle acquired his services, and during that time he became caretaker manager three times (including being caretaker manager with Colin Calderwood) and this time looks to be his most successful yet.

St.James Park

Owner: Freeman of Newcastle upon Tyne
Opened: 1892
Capacity: 52,387
Surface: Grass
Tenants: Newcastle United Football Club

:: Quick Information ::
St. James Park is an all-seater stadium in England and is the home of Newcastle United Football Club. It is the oldest and largest stadium in the North East, and also the seventh largest stadium in the United Kingdom with a capacity when full of 52,387. This stadium is located in the centre of Newcastle, its white roof is visible across the city and is the largest cantilever in all of Europe.

Occupied by the Toon Army fan-base in the Milburn Srand, or East Stand in the Leazes End and the Gallowgate End, this ground has been the home ground of Newcastle since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880. Throughout its history the desire to expand has caused conflict with local residents and council due to it being in the central city.

Besides club football, St James' Park has also been used for international football, and will be used as a football venue for the 2012 Olympics. In addition to professional football, the stadium has hosted charity football events, rock concerts, and been used as a film set and for reality television shows.

Default :: Newcastle Acquire Four New Stars ::

:: Transfers overview ::

Yes that is right, Newcastle have acquired four new players over a month period, roughly. Some of these players include some top Premiership talent such as Zurab Khizanishvili, Marlon Harewood and Peter Lovenkrands and the other signing is young Manchester United fullback Danny Simpson.

Newcastle haven't had to spend a penny of any of these players, as three of them have joined on loan and one of them have joined on a free transfer. Three of these players (the ones that have come on loan) have joined from Premiership clubs so the teams in the Championship had better look out as this should be an easy league, although many of the Premiership's greatest have failed.

:: Peter Løvenkrands ::
Full name: Peter Rosenkrands Løvenkrands
Date of Birth: 29 January, 1980 (age 29)
Position: Winger/Striker
National Team: Denmark
Denmark Caps: 21
Denmark Goals: 1
Club Signed From: Free Agent
Fee Signed For: Free
Last Club: Newcastle Football Club

:: Quick Information ::
Peter Løvenkrands has joined Newcastle on his second spell in two seasons, in which he now occupies the number eleven jersey which was previously occupied by Damien Duff who has now joined Fulham. In his previous spell, Løvenkrands made twelve appearances for Newcastle and scored three goals for Newcastle, most notably getting the opening goal against Manchester United, after Edwin van der Sar had not conceded for one thousand three hundred and eleven minutes of football.

:: Move Information ::
Peter Løvenkrands has joined Newcastle on his second spell, even though his last club was actually Newcastle! At the end of the 2008/2009 season him and the club came to the agreement to not renew his contract, and thus he was released and then two months later rejoined the club on a free transfer, and most likely had his contract renewed but at a championship level.

:: Danny Simpson ::
Full name: Daniel Peter Simpson
Date of Birth: 4 January, 1987 (age 22)
Position: Right Back
National Team: England
England Caps: 0
England Goals: 0
Club Signed From: Manchester United Football Club
Fee Signed For: Free (On Loan)
Last Club: Blackburn Rovers Football Club

:: Quick Information ::
Danny Simpson is a product of the Manchester United youth academy, but although Sir Alex Ferguson has faith in him he has only ever made three appearances for Manchester United and has been on many loans throughout the leagues. He has played in Belgium for Royal Antwerp, in the Championship with Sunderland and Ipswich and also has got Premiership experience with Blackburn Rovers, but now he faces the task of almost consistent first team football and has got to help Newcastle get promoted.

:: Move Information ::
Danny Simpson has joined Newcastle until January 2010 on loan from Manchester United. The young star has had plenty of experience with a variety of teams and should be a fantastic addition to the Newcastle United squad. We should be able to expect great things from this young man.

:: Marlon Harewood ::
Full name: Marlon Anderson Harewood
Date of Birth: 25 August, 1979 (age 30)
Position: Striker
National Team: England
England Caps: 0
England Goals: 0
Club Signed From: Aston Villa Football Club
Fee Signed For: Free (On Loan)
Last Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club
Date Signed: 24 September, 2009

:: Quick Information ::
Marlon Harewood has had an extremely unsuccessful and unlucky career as a footballer. He has had various loans, to such clubs as Haka, Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He started off his career in the Nottingham Forest youth and then joined the senior career in 1996 where he made 196 appearances and scored 55 goals and was known for being a prolific strikers' in the First Division. Then he joined West Ham and had an extremely dull spell where he only scored 47 goals in 142 appearances and then he joined Aston Villa where things went from bad to worse and he only scored 5 goals in 29 appearances! And then he joined Wolverhampton at the end of the season where he didn't even score in five appearances.

:: Move Information ::
Marlon Harewood has made this move as a last resort it seems as he is completely out of his depth at Aston Villa as the likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor, John Carew and Emile Heskey all taking his place, and with his goals starting to dry up there was no hope at all for him at Villa, and that is why he has moved to Newcastle on loan with option to sign.

:: Zurab Khizanishvili ::
Full name: Zurab Khizanishvili
Date of Birth: 6 October, 1979 (age 27)
Position: Defender
National Team: Georgia
Georgia Caps: 62
Georgia Goals: 1
Club Signed From: Blackburn Rovers Football Club
Fee Signed For: Free (On Loan)
Last Club: Blackburn Rovers Football Club
Date Signed: 17 September, 2009

:: Quick Information ::
Khizanishvili is a highly experienced and highly rated defender who has lost his place on the Blackburn team due to various new signings. He has played in many of the leagues around the world, in Georgia, Scotland and England and has proved to be one of the top defenders there. In 2001 he joined Dundee United after unsuccessful trials at Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham and he made an immediate impact there and then in 2003 he joined Rangers, but despite making thirty five appearances at Rangers he fell out of favour at Ibrox and in 2005 he made a season long loan to Blackburn Rovers where he managed to score a goal. Then a year later he penned a deal with Sam Allardyce and signed for Blackburn, and in the 2007/08 season became an important member of the squad, but a year later he was just made second choice and used in case of injury to Christopher Samba and Ryan Nelsen.

:: Move Information ::
After falling to second choice, or maybe even lower Khizanishvili was told that he would be allowed to move out to a club on loan, and after thinking for a while he got an offer from Newcastle United and then joined on a three month loan deal, with an option to extend but not being allowed to sign until his contract runs out, and if there was a good offer on the table.
