SEASON PREVIEW ---------------------------------------------------- ![]() ---------------------------------------------------- ![]() Another season begins and a passionate yet ageing Milan will be seeking to make the best of what they have. With a revamped youth academy in the making and new Primavera signings, the youth side could be on their way to their fourth consecutive Primavera Scudetti and Under 21 Champions league success. The first team have made transfers of a new young keeper in Sergio Romero, along with Diego Souza of Brazil and Neymar of Santos in Brazil in order to inject some youithful exuberance that only Pato and Flamini were providing previously. Summer transfer Ignazio Abate from Roma will tear through any defences whilst Milan’s defence and sheer experience in midfield will make them as strong as they have ever been in all competitions. The appointment of Leonardo has come with changes, a more attacking style of play was displayed in their first game against Napoli, a style which the Rossoneri are yet to be accustomed to. Nesta has been opted for the captaincy of the side since Flamini and Ambrosini will be rotating in the central defensive midfield position with the Bulldog still able to get solid gametime under the inexperienced coach. Berlusconi has high ambitions and will be looking for a very competitive Champions League campaign, where Marseille and Real Madrid are already confirmed group members in Milans group. Adriano Galliani, a club owner, believes that Il Diavolo will be almost boringly brilliant, and will be scoring so many goals with the trident formation they are playing that no other Serie A team will be able to adapt. Another Serie A season is about to begin, and it would seem that Internazionale are on theirt way to their fourth scuedetto in a row, but if Juventus and Milan have their way, their clever tactics and smart gameplay will push Internazionale into a third place position, with clubs such as Udinese and the ever gorgeous Fiorentina nibbling at the heals of the Rossoneri. If last season was difficult for Milan fans to swallow, the club's dealings in this summer's transfer market will have left them baying for blood. The Rossoneri have had a truly dismal 12 months in which their standing on the world football stage has been left severely battered under Carlo Ancelotti’s first term. So they finished third in Serie A under Carlo Ancelotti, but a full 10 points behind riovals Internazionale and were never truly in the title race. Now, with an inexperienced coach, a notoriously ageing team and without their best player Kaka, Milan must try to claw their way back to the pedestal they have spent the last two decades lounging on. What, exactly, has been going on at Milan? With the new campaign fast approaching, the club that can rightly claim to have been the most successful in world football in the last 20 years have been doing their best to look like they are falling apart at the seams. Kaka, the Brazilian superstar who was so carefully and expertly bought and nurtured by Milan, was called to a meeting with the clubs' owner Silvio Berlusconi in June and persuaded, against his will, to sign for Real Madrid. Apparently, the billionaire Italian Prime Minister needed the money. And while their rivals from all around Europe have added significantly to their squads this summer, the rossoneri have gone below the radar with some subtle transfers. Central defenders Oguchi Onyewu and Thiago Silva could stiffen an increasingly wobbly defence and their search for a world class striker finally came to a moderately satisfactory conclusion when they signed Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for €15 million. But, for the most part, they have punched well below their weight. Double Brazilian transfers in Diego Souza from Palmeiras and Neymar from Santos left Ultra’s drooling whilst a mistake prone Dida was revoked from his first team spot in favour of Abbiati and AZ Alkmaar keeper Sergio Romero. At least their metronomic midfield maestro, Andrea Pirlo, didn't become another casualty of the clubs' crippling recessionary state. After completing the deal to bring Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to the San Siro, Milan do have a number of options in attack. As well as the 26-year-old Dutchman, Leonardo will turn to an ageing duo in Ronaldo and Pip Super Inzaghi who will surely be the teams main striker in their new campaign. But the disappointing sale of Kaka means Ronaldinho now has to shoulder much of the creative burden. One hell of a gamble on Berlusconi’s behalf. A player on the verge of breakdown and retirement. Rumours now suggest he will be on a one way plane back to his gome club in Brazil, Gremio. The Rossoneri midfield will have a familiar look to it when they kick-off their Serie A campaign away to Siena. Pirlo will anchor a midfield featuring Massimo Ambrosini, Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf. This thirty something quartet will get to put their feet up if Leonardo believes Ignazio Abate, Mathias Cardacio, Mathieu Flamini and Tabare Viudez are now ready for regular first team action. Souza will get the occasional lower league side with Gennaro coming in against clubs like Lecce and Torino. The back four will, at least, contain one or two new faces. If Alessandro Nesta is injured and, lets face it, that is not the most unlikely thing in the world, then Oguchi Onyewu and Thiago Silva will probably play alongside each other in the centre with the disappearing Gianluca Zambrotta at right-back and the rarely better than average Marek Jankulovski on the left. The addition of 35-year-old Flavio Roma will provide the injured Abbiati with cover between the posts. Suddenly, the prince must become the king. The departure of Kaka will inevitably thrust the 19-year-old Alexandre Pato into the limelight and he will do well not to be blinded by the glare. If his interplay with Ronaldinho and Huntelaar is going to blossom into something dangerous, he is going to have to lose some of the naivety that he has shown since his arrival in Serie A and become a more cynical and more clinical goalscorer. When Klaas-Jan Huntelaar arrived at San Siro in August, there were whispers about him being the new Marco Van Basten. Huntelaar, like Milan's most famous Dutch striker, is an out-and-out centre-forward who is big and strong and can score goals with either foot, his head and his trademark bicycle kick. It could be a marriage made in heaven. Or like much of the backroom stars, he could become another Ronaldinho, slowly fading away into the distance. There is no doubt that Milan's new head coach is a highly intelligent and very likeable human being. He was also a fantastic player. But the diminutive Brazilian doesn't even have the necessary coaching qualification and is only able to do the job because he is a World Cup winner. Is he a patsy appointment that will allow Adriano Galliani to take more control over team affairs? Or will he prove to be the ultimate diplomat, with Mauro Tassotti doing most of the work on the training ground at Milanello? No-one outside of the club really expects Milan to hit the heights this season and some observers have even been tipping them to finish outside the top four in Serie A. Nevertheless, the Brigate Rossonere will be demanding that the team push Inter and Juventus all the way. Letting go of Kaka and Carlo Ancelotti is Silvio Berluconi’s biggest gamble with Milan since he hired the simple shoe salesman (Arrigo Sacchi) and purchased three dutch masters in the late 1990’s. Rossoneri supporters may be dismayed by the key departures and a period where Milan truly steps into a gray area. Yet Silvio Berlusconi remains adamant that club ambition has remained unchanged. “Milan has to be number one in Italy and internationally, to go on the field and take charge of the game.” Berlusconi has requested that thirty nine year old Leonardo, a former Brazilian left-midfielder who played in an infamous Milan side, to be the answer to the modern day Sacchi. With Maldini retired only adding to their woes, Leonardo will be looking for new leaders on the pitch. Ambrosini, Inzaghi or Pirlo will surely be confirmed as the club captain, but Berlusconi insists that a revival of Ronaldinho could place him in a leadership position. The Brazilians stats as a Rossonero loyal are rather respectable contrary to popular belief. In the 2008/09 season, the man labeled the “Dinho-saur” scored eight goals and five assists in the 16 games he started, with twenty nine total played. Therefore the move to the fashion capital can be an unqualified success. Berlusconi, uniquely is quick to blame the Rossoneri’s coaching staff rather than the ageing players. “We lost the league this year because in closing minutes of some games, they did not adopt the tactics I recommended as former president. Also we often miss a lot of our top players in starting line ups even though they are capable. Ronaldinho was played for just a few minutes, and this did not do his morale any favours. Just think how good it would have been to have Ronaldinho for 90 minutes. People buy tickets to see players of his calibre.” Lectured Berlusconi. So even before Leonardo has settled into the Milan dugout, their president has started dispensing tactical advise in his typical way, through the media. Leonardo has been a scout and technical director at Milan. In 2007 he was linked to the job as director of football at West Ham United, but stayed in Italy and is promising fans “attacking football which entertains.” He wants, he says “A team who play quickly with the ball in the opponents half.” Helping him achieve that goal is his number two, Mauro Tassotti, who conquered Europe under the Arrigo Sacchi reign. “The base of our formation is 4-1-2-1-2 with wingers pushing hard down the flanks. We need to convert Pirlo into a winger and Ronaldinho is naturally a wing player. Abate, Di Gennaro and Flamini will have an easy time adapting whilst Hunterlaar and Seedorf rotate between the central attacking midfield position and Gattuso and Ambrosini hold down a defensive mid role. We will not have a revolution,” he assures. Though Maldini was upset by some of the uncomplimentary banners Milan Ultras waved on his last game for the club at the San Siro, he suggests that supporters should not be discouraged by departures and unwelcome entrances. “When Franco Baresi retired, I felt lost, everything looked black. Yet Milan returned again. This club has always forged ahead. I now know how it feels, but if the situation is managed as per usual, the story remains unended.” The clubs former skipper does not, though, underestimate the task facing Leonardo. “This team, with a few minor tweaks, could have been great again, but without Kaka, one of the best footballers in the world, a lot more is needed.” With 13 outfield players in 2008/09 squad over 30 years old, the Rossoneri need to blood younger players. Maldini added “This is Leonardo’s debut, and he’ll have to put himself to the test. It’s a gamble, even though they have usually paid off in the past.” Maldini had differing view on two potential Rossoneri leaders on the pitch: Alexandre Pato or Ronaldinho. “I hope to see Pato at Milan for years to come. He has come to terms with his prodigious talent. Ronaldinho could lead, yet will have to take on the responsibility.” Milan’s definition of success isn’t quite as exciting as Florentino Perez’s, but the glow from the UEFA Champions League in 2007 has finally faded. It hasn’t helped that rivals Internazionale have achieved three scudetti in succession. Berlusconi believes Leonardo will inject enthusiasm and motivation, starting a new cycle for the club. Given his track record at picking coaches, he gave Sacchi, Capello and Ancelotti their big chance. Who would bet against Berlusconi. Serie A fans can expect a more competitive Scudetto race entering the 2009/10 season with Juventus, Milan and Fiorentina all desperate to find some success after Internazionale aim for their fifth championship in a row, a redundant déjà vu. Inter, Milan and Juve still remain the hottest contenders, but with the likes of Fiorentina, Roma, Lazio and Napoli, this years title race is set to be one of fireworks. Stars such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kaka have made a move to Spain but replacing them comes Huntelaar, Eto’o, Lucio and Diego which could fill the void and could provide some excitement to the timewarp that Italian football seems to be stuck in. young stars such as Giovinco, Pastore, Santon and Jovetic are also set to become frequent first team members. ![]() ![]() Manager-Angelo Gregucci Key Player-Cristiano Doni Watch-Andrea Consigli Key Transfer-RobertAcquafresca Objective-Mid-table Atalanta have enjoyed two successful seasons under coach Luigi Del Neri and will be hoping for repeat success with Angelo Gregucci and another top ten finish. Atalanta have cemented themselves as an outfit that is capable of a mid table position and kept the same side as last season, with Roberto Acquafresca of Cagliari coming in for Sergio Floccari as a long striker. The expectation is to comfortably avoid relegation to Serie B, one which is quite reachable. ![]() Manager- Giampiero Ventura Key Player-Barreto Watch-Andrea Rannocchia Key Transfer-Edgar Alvarez Objective-Survival Bari have lost rising coach Antonio Conte and have failed to make any significant signings in preparation for their Serie A season. Bari are a paramout candidate for the drop this season of the three promoted clubs from Serie B and the man that has been placed in the hot seat in Giampiero Ventura who has plenty of work to do to keep Bari in Serie A after an eight year recess. ![]() Manager- Giuseppe Papadopulos Key Player-Marco Di Vaio Watch-Emiliano Viviano Key Transfer-Andrea Raggi Objective-Survival The arrival of coach Giuseppe Papadopulos late in the season helped Bologna barely avoid the drop to Serie B in the 2008-09 Serie A season . Certainly, that will be their goal again. The arrivals of defender Andrea Raggi and midfielder Roberto Guana will add some depth to the Rossoblu squad, but overall another year in the relegation dogfight would look their most likely predicament in the 2009-10 season. ![]() Manager- Massimiliano Allegri Key Player-Federico Marchetti Watch-Lino Marzoratti Key Transfer-Simone Barone Objective-Lower mid-table Coach Massimiliano Allegri worked a near miracle last season with Cagliari, earning them 53 points and a very impressive ninth place finish after a torrid start to the campaign. Signing Simone Barone will add some grit to the midfield, but a question that needs answering is whether they can cope with the sale of Robert Acquafresca, who was their top scorer the past two seasons and proves himself to be key to the makeup of the squad. ![]() Manager- Gianluca Atzori Key Player-Giuseppe Mascara Watch-Takayuki Morimoto Key Transfer-Gennaro Delvecchio Objective-Survival Catania were resigned to the loss of coach Walter Zenga to Sicilian derby rivals Palermo, but have kept their squad intact from last season while adding midfielder Gennaro Delvecchio from Sampdoria, who is capable of getting forward and score some impressive goals. Striker Michele Paolucci is also gone, but Giuseppe Mascara and Takayuki Morimoto have both shown their capabilities up front. They got off to a flyer last season and were never in real danger of going to Serie B and a similar result is now the expectation for the Elephants after three successive years in the top flight. ![]() Manager-Domencio Di Carlo Key Player-Sergio Pellissier Watch-Simone Grippo Key Transfer-Luca Ariatti Objective-Survival Chievo managed to pull themselves together after a disappointing start to the 2008/09 Serie A season to remain in Serie A. The consensus is they will be involved near the bottom of the standings once more, but the experience of players like long-time servant Sergio Pellissier, defender Mario Yepes, and midfielder Luciano give the Verona-based outfit a solid base to work with. Only time will tell if tactician Domenico Di Carlo can keep their head above water this season. ![]() Manager-Cesare Prandelli Key Player-Adrian Mutu Watch-Stevan Jovetic Key Transfer-Cristiano Zanetti Objective-Champions League Qualification When Cesare Prandelli arrived at Fiorentina in 2005, he had a seven year plan towards the Scudetto, four years in, there is marked improvement and they are competing in the Champions League, but a substandard transfer campaign this off-season has threatened to throw that off course. Nonetheless, the Viola will have their eyes on another top four finish and will once again be counting on the goals of Alberto Gilardino, Stevan Jovetic and Adrian Mutu to propel them there. ![]() Manager-Gian Piero Gasperini Key Player-Sergio Floccari Watch-Domenico Criscito Key Transfer-Marco Amelia Objective-Europa League Qualification Like last summer, there were plenty of changes at Genoa and the Grifoni supporters will be hoping all the new signings pan out once more. One of the ‘fairy tales’ of last year, a repeat is in order. The losses of Diego Milito, Thiago Motta, Matteo Ferrari, and Rubinho were substituted with Hernan Crespo, Sergio Floccari, Marco Amelia, Houssine Kharja, Alberto Zapater, and Emiliano Moretti. For the Grifoni, everything depends on whether these names gel or not. If they do, Genoa could provide themselves with a top four finish. ![]() Manager-Jose Mourinho Key Player-Samuel Eto’o Watch-Davide Santon Key Transfer-Diego Milito Objective-Scudetto Inter may have lost star player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the acquisitions of Samuel Eto’o, Diego Milito, Lucio, and Thiago Motta have eased the transition. After four Scudetti on the trot Inter will be keen to show that their period of domestic success is far from over, even if their ultimate goal is Champions League glory. Jose Mourinho continues to mould the side, but it remains to be seen if ‘The Special One’ will make his mark with the new Nerazzurri players quickly. ![]() Manager- Ciro Ferrara Key Player-Gianluigi Buffon Watch-Sebastian Giovinco Key Transfer-Diego Objective-Scudetto For the first time since Calciopoli, the Bianconeri have a realistic shot at the Scudetto after an ambitious transfer campaign. The arrivals of Diego, Fabio Cannavaro, and Felipe Melo will solidify the side and add to the influence of stars like Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon. Ciro Ferrara’s first full season in charge will be a trying one, but in the end all that will matter to the fans is if the Turin side manage to finally win another championship and halt Inter’s domestic dominance. ![]() Manager-Davide Ballardini Key Player-Mauro Zarate Watch-Mobido Diakite Key Transfer-Julio Cruz Objective-Europa League Qualification The capital club have already started the season off on the right foot by winning the Supercoppa Italiana over Inter in Beijing and certainly have the capability of being a thorn in anyone’s side. More consistent performances in the league will be their goal, with a finish in the top six not out of the question. New coach Davide Ballardini has a solid squad, even if depth could be a problem. Mauro Zarate remains the explosive threat upfront. ![]() Manager-Vittorio Russo Key Player- Alessandro Diamanti Watch- Antonio Candreva Key Transfer-Cristiano Lucarelli Objective-Survival The second of the promoted sides, Livorno will be hopeful of staying in Serie A after just one year in the second division. The biggest boost is the return of forward Cristiano Lucarelli, a hero at the club, who scored plenty of goals from 2003-2007 in Amaranto colours. Watch out for Alessandro Diamanti, one of the top strikers in Serie B last season, as well as Antonio Candreva, who took part in the Under-21 European Championships this past summer. ![]() Manager- Leonardo Key Player-Ronaldinho Watch-Alexandre Pato Key Transfer-Klaas-Jan Huntelaar Objective-Scudetto You can say it’s the beginning of a new era for Milan. Kaka is gone to Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti is now coaching Chelsea, Paolo Maldini has retired and success has been hard to come by the past couple of seasons. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will try and be the goal-scorer the club have been yearning for, while the return of Alessandro Nesta will hopefully solve some of the defensive frailties. Ronaldinho’s aim is to fill the void left by his compatriot. New boss Leonardo has admitted his inaugural coaching job is a huge challenge, but a first place finish is what everyone at the Rossoneri is counting on. ![]() Manager- Roberto Donadoni Key Player-Ezequiel Lavezzi Watch- Luca Cigarini Key Transfer- Fabio Quagliarella Objective-Europa League Qualification Impressively, Napoli managed to strengthen their squad while also holding onto crown jewels Marek Hamsik and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Italian trio Fabio Quagliarella, Luca Cigarini, and Morgan De Sanctis have arrived along with the impressive Juan Zuniga to bolster their ranks all over the pitch. Failure will not be tolerated from the demanding president after his significant investments or by the die-hard fans. ![]() Manager-Walter Zenga Key Player-Fabrizio Miccoli Watch-Javier Pastore Key Transfer- Dorin Goian Objective- Europa League Qualification It’s never a dull moment with Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini – who engineered the shock appointment of coach Walter Zenga from Sicilian rivals Catania. ‘Zampa’ always demands quick results, the addition of Romanian international Dorin Goian will add character to the defence, while young signing Javier Pastore is known to produce some magic on the field and should be a crowd pleaser. ![]() Manager- Francesco Guidolin Key Player-Valeri Bojinov Watch-McDonald Mariga Key Transfer-Christian Panucci Objective-Survival Francesco Guildolin finally re-established himself after his on-again-off-again love affair with Palermo by helping the Gialloblu to promotion into Serie A. At Parma, he has a wealth of young talent at his disposal like Alberto Paloschi, Davide Lanzafame, McDonald Mariga, and Jonathan Bianbiany among others. The performance of two off-season additions will be crucial – former Fiorentina and Manchester City striker Valeri Bojinov will be counted on for goals, while the experience of journey-man Christian Panucci will be needed at the back. Survival is the name of the game at this club. ![]() Manager- Luciano Spalletti Key Player-Francesco Totti Watch-Marco Motta Key Transfer-Stefano Guberti Objective-Champions League Qualification Make no mistake – Roma have something to prove. Many feel after last season’s disappointing sixth place finish, the Giallorossi are no longer contenders. However, 'Er Pupone' and co. always have a few tricks up their sleeve. An underwhelming summer (due to financial difficulties) saw Alberto Aquilani leave and Stefano Guberti join, while promising right-back Marco Motta’s stay was secured. Entrance back into the Champions League would probably satisfy both club management and fans alike. Last edited by Liverpöol; 02-11-2009 at 08:37 AM. |

![]() Manager-Luigi Del Neri Key Player- Antonio Cassano Watch-Vincenzo Fiorillo Key Transfer-Daniele Mannini Objective-Mid-table The man who makes Sampdoria tick is Antonio Cassano – one of the stars of the last two seasons in Italy, who will be even more fired up, in order to prove himself ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Within a whisker of winning last year’s Coppa Italia, Luigi Del Neri will hope to bring the club to the next level, but a mid-table finish would seem to be on the cards once more, despite some impressive players like Angelo Palombo, Daniele Dessena, and Giampaolo Pazzini. ![]() Manager-Marco Giampolo Key Player-Massimo Maccarrone Watch-Albin Ekdal Key Transfer-Reginaldo Objective-Survival Siena first arrived in Serie A in 2003 and although often tipped to be relegated, have always found a way to avoid the drop, last year very convincingly. Few changes have been made to Marco Giampaolo’s squad and if there is no change in how they performed last season the fans will be pleased to avoid the drop once more. Nonetheless, being involved in the relegation battle is a strong possibility. ![]() Manager-Pasquale Marino Key Player-Antonio Di Natale Watch-Alexis Sanchez Key Transfer-Bernardo Corradi Objective-Upper Mid-Table President Giampaolo Pozzo’s high price-tags ensured he kept hold of impressive midfield trio Gateano D’Agostino, Gokhan Inler, and Kwadwo Asamoah, who were all critical to the side’s seventh place finish in 2008-09. Italian international Fabio Quagliarella left for Napoli and the Zebrette have filled the target-man void with veteran striker Bernardo Corradi. Continental football is the dream, but the reality could be another finish just outside that European zone.
---------------------------------------------------- ![]() ---------------------------------------------------- ![]() [Translated From Italian] Tuesday 28th October 2009 ---------------------------------------------------- Milan get April underway with an easy match against mid table team Napoli under Roberto Donadoni. They are not part of the qualifying round and enter directly into the group stage. 17.08 UEFA Champions League Qualifying Round 29.08 Serie A Matchday One[Milan v Napoli] -------------------- Milan face their most difficult month of their 2009 campaign, opening the fixtures with a home ground advantage over major city rivals Internazionale. They then have somewhat of a break whereby they play Lazio and Atalanta, in which most likely youth players will be used so that the first team is in their best form and shape against Real Madrid, who will travel to the San Siro, a contest which will surely have many legends and champions on show, the winner will be cherished. They then relax against Cagliari, where once again youth will get their chance, and then travel to the Stadio Velodrome to face French outfit Olimpique de Marseille in a make or break encounter for Milan’s Champions League Campaign. 05.09 Serie A Matchday Two[Internazionale v Milan] 12.09 Serie A Matchday Three[Milan v Lazio] 19.09 Serie A Matchday Four[Atalanta v Milan] 21.09 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Milan v Real Madrid] 26.09 Serie A Matchday Five[Milan v Cagliari] 28.09 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Marseille v Milan] -------------------- In the month of March, Milan travel to a renovated Stadio Delle Alpi to face Turn outfit, Juventus in a clash which will show who has the edge in the final standings. They then face Genoa at home, where youth will be used and travel to Sampdora to face Sampdoria and their potent strikers in a fixture that could take Milan fans by surpise. Now the moment we all wait for. Milan will once again, much like 2007, travel to Old Trafford to face a Ronaldo-less Manchester United. Milan have a Ronaldo, and the game is expected to have punters drooling. A somewhat mundane fixture follows against Torino and then a Coppa Italia round two takes place with Milan’s competition being unknown. 03.10 Serie A Matchday Six[Juventus v Milan] 10.10 Serie A Matchday Seven[Milan v Genoa] 17.10 Serie A Matchday Eight[Sampdoria v Milan] 20.10 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Manchester United v Milan] 24.10 Serie A Matchday Nine[Torino v Milan] 26.10 Coppa Italia Round Two ![]() [The Last Time United and Milan Met, Milan Tore Apart Sir Alex Ferguson's Squad By The Seams] -------------------- Milan now travel to the Bernabeu to face an amped crowd of wild Galactico’s fans. Stats show that Italy teams always win at the Bernabeu. They then go home and rest their first team to face Lecce at the San Siro, then meet up with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils in a make or break contest. Parma have the strike force of Alberto Paloschi and Bojinov to take Il Diavolo by surpise in their meeting and then a solid contest where the Romans, led by Totti, come and battle against Milan in the coliseum. 09.11 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Real Madrid v Milan] 14.11 Serie A Matchday Ten[Milan v Lecce] 16.11 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Milan v Manchester United] 21.11 Serie A Matchday Eleven[Parma v Milan] 28.11 Serie A Matchday Twelve[Milan v Roma] -------------------- Milan now host French outfit Marseille in Italy as part of their UEFA Champions League campaign. They then travel to the region of Tuscany to battle Florence based side Fiorentina, who boasted an impressive campaign in the 2008/09 season and could prove a challenge. Coppa Italia is back in action with Round Three in motion. The Rossoneri then host Palermo boasting a deadly striking trident, then travel to Reggina to face Reggina and then Siena, in two easy fixtures in which youth sides will surely be opted over a full strength team. 01.12 UEFA Champions League Group Stage [Milan v Marseille] 05.12 Serie A Matchday Thirteen[Fiorentina v Milan] 07.12 Coppa Italia Round Three 12.12 Serie A Matchday Fourteen[Milan v Palermo] 19.12 Serie A Matchday Fifteen[Reggina v Milan] 26.12 Serie A Matchday Sixteen[Milan v Siena] -------------------- Il Diavolo will start a busy month against Catania, then travel to Udine and face Udinese, the youngest team in the Serie A competition, just four days after their Catania match. Some clever squad rotation means the players will not get tired. Just two days player, a full strength team should be expected if Milan are still in the Coppa Italia competition, with a moderately good team against Napoli in Naples, who boast a very potent strike force and midfield and one of the most under rated in the competition. This time Fiorentina travel to the fashion capital of the world and face Milan at the San Siro, where they remain for four days until their fixture with city rivals Internazionale in the Derby Della Madonnia. 05.01 Serie A Matchday Seventeen[Catania v Milan] 09.01 Serie A Matchday Eighteen[Udinese v Milan] 11.01 Coppa Italia 16.01 Serie A Matchday Nineteen[Milan v Chievo] 23.01 Serie A Matchday Twenty[Napoli v Milan] 26.01 Serie A Matchday Twenty One[Milan v Fiorentina] 30.01 Serie A Matchday Twenty Two[Milan v Internazionale] ![]() [Tactical Rotations Will Prove Key To Leonardo In January-Milans Busiest Month] -------------------- After two very busy months and some heavy fixtures, Leonardo will count his team lucky as they have a relatively quiet month, facing Roman outfit Roma under Claudio Ranieri. They then travel back to Milan and face Catania, and depending on their draw in the Coppa Italia, which should be either Fiorentina, Internazionale or Juventus, they may have a tough time. 02.02 Serie A Matchday Twenty Three [Roma v Milan] 06.02 Serie A Matchday Twenty Four[Milan v Catania] 08.02 Coppa Italia Semi Final -------------------- March kicks off with the preliminary knockout stages of European competition, where the whole Milan fanforce will hope to be getting a relatively easy draw if they have qualified. It is the start to a busy month in Serie a, where Milan face Reggina and then Cagliari and Torino, three easy fixtures which should give first team players a well deserved rest. They then host the Bianconeri at home under Ciro Ferrara, and just two days after that, if they make it, Milan will battle against one of the eight best teams in the world in the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final. 01.03 UEFA Champions League Round Of Sixteen 06.03 Serie A Matchday Twenty Five [Milan v Reggina] 20.03 Serie A Matchday Twenty Six[Cagliari v Milan] 23.03 Serie A Matchday Twenty Seven[Milan v Torino] 27.03 Serie A Matchday Twenty Eight[Milan v Juventus] 29.03 UEFA Champions League Quarter Final -------------------- Milan will now be hosted by Palermo and the deadly striking force they have. They then face an easy beaten Lecce, who always have a solid defence backing them. The UEFA campaign is now well underway, the two semi final games happening on the 26th. 17.04 Serie A Matchday Twenty Nine [Palermo v Milan] 20.04 Serie A Matchday Thirty[Lecce v Milan] 26.04 UEFA Champions League Semi Final -------------------- Milan are given a 20 day break in between the semi final and the 15th of May, where they host Atalanta and Robert Acquafresca. One of the strongest defences in competition, Siena, will be hosting the Rossoneri on the 22nd where a youth team will be in full effect. Just two days afterwards, the Rossoneri head to the Santiago Bernabeu, where they play in the UEFA Champions League Final, that is under the presumption that they get this far in the competition. They then have four very simple fixtures to round off the final month of the season, a month which will surely decide the scudetto holders. The first being against a potent Sampdoria, then Udinese, Genoa and Chievo all face the army of Milan in what has been a riveting season. 01.06 Serie A Matchday Thirty Four [Milan v Parma] 04.06 Coppa Italia Final 08.06 Serie A Matchday Thirty Five[Milan v Sampdoria] 12.06 Serie A Matchday Thirty Six[Milan v Udinese] 15.06 Serie A Matchday Thirty Seven[Genoa v Milan] 19.06 Serie A Matchday Thirty Eight[Chievo v Milan] Last edited by Liverpöol; 02-11-2009 at 08:37 AM. |

To be fair Sam, it's not doing much hating on this thread, you've said what you have to say, now let's just let Hales get on with his thread. You never know, he might turn over a new leaf.

So if you're doing Juventus, why put up that other poll with Liverpool, Burnley and Fulham in it?
![]() EDIT: Oh wait, I just went over to the poll and read the last few comments and I get it. You're a spamming idiot. It all makes sense now.

CIRO SAYS CYA, HOLA ZOLA FROM ENGLAND TO LEAD THE OLD LADY. ![]() In an amazing turn of events, new Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara has left the job at The Old Lady, only several months after taking the reigns from fallen boss Ranieri. It comes as a shock to the fans of Juventus, however it was little compared to the shockwave that current West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola was to be named as the new manager of Juventus tomorrow, ahead of the Pre-season Friendly Cup. It’s insisted Zola’s lack of managerial experience would not hamper him in his new job coaching one of the best teams in Europe and the world. Ciro Ferrara was a legendary centre-back born in Naples, and in fact played for both Napoli and Juventus over 300 times each. He was a great player during his time at the club, another reason why people are wondering why he left the club so early, with only a few Serie A matches last season under his belt as manager. However there has been some light shed onto the situation. It’s believed the major concern was between Ciro and the club board, with a strong class of interests resulting in the shock departure. However it was little compared to the shockwave that current West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola was to be named as the new manager of Juventus tomorrow. The Italian has only managed mid-table English side West Ham; however was undoubtedly a great player. Among the accolades of the footballer include playing alongside Maradona, and being named the Greatest Ever Chelsea Player in a recent poll. Add to this his infectious personality and wit – and Juventus may have in fact stumbled onto a winner in the form of Gianfranco. There have been reports that Zola fought off the job at Juventus from Chelsea assistant Steve Clarke, who coached him at Stamford Bridge, to be his number two at Upton Park. Other managers that were thrown around as possible managers included Leonardo – who has since signed with Milan – Roy Hodgson from Fulham and finally the Special One himself, Jose Mourinho. The following statement was recorded from his home in London regarding the disicion to quit the Premier League side in search of Serie A, Champions League football and an elite team. [English –Translated] I know I am not the most experienced manager, but I have been working at West Ham for over a season, and they have been great to me. The players are great, the fans are great and the board is great. I feel guilty for the fans for leaving this great club, a team that without a doubt can challenge for Europe with its quality players. It almost brings a tear to my eye when I have to leave this place, which has been great to me. However it's a great opportunity to go to Turin to coach the great team that is Juventus, and I am sure I can do a great job for the club. Ciro was a quality manager and a person, so I really hope I can take the Juventus players, fans and board staff into my heart. We have to make it enjoyable for the players first and then for the crowd and everybody. Hopefully we can do better than last season, and challenge Inter and Milan for the Scudetto. I won it with Napoli and would love to do it again as a manager. |
