Default FIFA 10 Commentary oddities

Hi,

thought I'd make a thread for the times when the commentary either doesn't match what is going on, or something else strange happens with it. (doesn't have to be exact quotes...)

I'll start with...

1. Put in a cross: 'Oh that's a great cross' ...but ball goes to defender... 'And that's NOT a good cross'...

2. I'm 2-1 up in extra time: 'And just to remind you, if it stays level at the end of extra time then will will have penalties'

3. When ball is passed to striker in the area, 'WAYNE ROOONEYYYY!!!'... who then just stops the ball and passes to someone else lol. I applaud the effort, I don't remember this kind of thing being in 09 though haven't played in a while, would be great to have this commentary as a striker scores. Not sure there's too much they can do about that one.

The commentary is completely messed

Hit the crossbar - "off the post" What??
"its Malouda" -who never touched the ball, cos my defender 10 foot in front intercepted

"poor cross" - it went straight to my ST, who epic failed. Good cross, bad finish. Not a poor cross

loads more

Whatever the line is about "56, 57 thousand replica shirts staring back at me" at St James', which seats 52,387 people

After I'd beaten a team in manager mode, the commentator said that it's now 9 points from 3 games, three wins in a row for my team. Yet I had only gotten 2 in a row, third game being a draw.. And there was something about a goalscorer scoring his 4th goal when it was his first and a lot of little things like that but they are really noticeable and annoying and definitely need to be looked into.

got a new one, my favourite so far -

op attacker storming down to middle on counter attack, beats last defender, blasts a shot from just outside area, flies past the keeper -- hits one post! -- hits the other post!! -- and goes out to another defender.

Commentary: (defense has the ball again)'...but there was never any danger...' LOL

Another is when a goalkeeper picks a simple ball up and it's like he's made a fantastic save.

Agree the loud callname like "Rooooney" should be said on a strike at goal or on an actual goal.

Never when they have just walked into the box. If they look like they are going to get a shot away it should be like "Here's roooney!", "Can he get a shot in!" "Is there a gap!" but with the pitch slightly rising up at the end of the sample.

And saying the players firstname and surname loud just doesn't fit some how, it should only be on their surname.

I've been told the commentary for Blackburn and Reading are outdated, saying Blackburn could do well under Mark Hughes and something about Reading being in the Premiership with Steve Coppell.
Through the grapevine stuff.

Don't forget all the work that Martin Jol has done brining in new talent at Spurs.

Ive lost 2 in a row, then won and theyve said "Thats 3 losses in a row, we better start calling this a streak now!" Or something silly.

James Brown my only player with good form - "This player isnt at his best is he Andy, hes on bad form."

Seems to me like EA have used the commentary from 2007. Murinho at Chelsea, 17 years since Liverpool won the title, etc...

It just seems sloppy work from EA and to be honest is a major annoyance for a game that one would think has been thoroughly tested. Guess not.

I guess it just goes to show that they only ever build on old code.

for me, playing with barca at camp nou the commentator says "vicente calderon stadium, in madrid, the home of atletica madrid" and i use barca in my manager mode. it grinds my gears all the time.

Some of the commentary oddities would have to be caused by the lack of work by the Dev Team.

I've just won a League game, lost a Cup game the following match, and then at the next game, the commentator would say:

"A team that's just lost the last league game" or summat.

Also, what annoys me, is that Martin Tyler, or someone from the Commentating Team form EA, has something against Samir Nasri.

If you misplace a pass using Samir, you're dead. Martin Tyler has about 3-4 lines about Samir wasting possesion, and it just gives you the impression that Samir's performing really badly.

And then the random lines of how badly and good the performance of a player is, are rather misleading. A hat-trick hero will have negative comments, and vice versa.

Though, some lines are pretty good. I'm always happy about the lines, though repetative, about how classy the Mighty Arsenal are.

I was down 2-0 at HT once, and then a few lines came in:

Martin: What do you think the cause is, Andy?
Andy: 2 words; Bad defending, Martin.
Martin: That's 3 words, Andy.

And then they burst into laughter; Andy sarcastically, and Martin genuinely.
Rather pleasing on the ears, but all the bugs kinda eradicates that.

I'm getting PES10 the day it gets released. The commentating is rather accurate, albeit boring. I usually plug in my earphones, and play the Master League; really fun and entertaining.

Oh and lastly, EA sucks.

"I don't think I've mentioned this on air before Andy....."

Yeah you have Martin in fact you've mentioned it in every single game I've played, now shut the hell up

Also, in both cup finals I've played Tyler goes about qualifying for the next round

It's a shame that for whatever reason the whole "authenticity" thing completely went out the window for the commentary, they promised lots but delivered little, lots of recycled commentary that's now 3 years out of date, lots of inaccurate stuff, real shame as I'm one of those people who loves playing the game with the English commentary on to make the match like a TV experience

In Manager Mode the commentary tells me liverpool have won the league more than any1 else, no they haven't they share that honour with Manchester United. It also tells me how wonderful Blackburn are doing under the Mark Hughes regime. Mark Hughes has been at Manchester City for over a year. If your goin to put facts and stats in EA, please make sure they're right. Thanx for your time

^^ Just proves what a lazy job they've done.

I wonder if Birmingham still sing about Robbie Savage?

That one did make me chuckle. It's a pity because there are loads of great natural sounding commentary bites like that, but there are also so many out of place comments.
