As you know, there are currently a number of kinks in the online systems associated with FIFA 10. Game Face functionality on the Web is currently offline, while a fix to Live Season is currently being tested before that’s re-released to PS Store and Xbox Live. We’re also seeing some disconnection issues with EA servers in the game – while this isn’t affecting the vast majority of users, we’re working on it as a very high priority issue. The stability of the EASPORTS.com and EASPORTSFootball.com websites is also something we’re looking into, and while we do some features there (game stats, live friends status updates, for example) have also been disabled.
I’m afraid we’re not able to give you a solid ETA on the resolution to these issues just yet, but we’re making great progress and hope to be able to update you with details soon. To give you an insight, all these issues are linked. Whether it’s Game Face, your game stats on the Football World website, or in-game disconnects… the root of these issues lies in massive demand during the FIFA 10 launch weekend causing some unexpected behaviour with technologies underpinning all these things. Whether it’s a video upload from the game, a quick match online, a Game Face generation or the delivery of a match result to a website, every individual action from every player runs across the same ‘wires’ and databases and it’s the management of all this activity that’s unexpectedly straining the system somewhat. Exhaustive testing was conducted over months prior to release of course, but there’s never a completely fail-safe way of modelling the impact of a million real people turning up. While that’s probably not what you want to hear right now (i.e. “It’s fixed! Enjoy!”), I do hope that gives you a bit of insight into what we’re working on. There are large numbers of people a lot cleverer than me dotted around the globe working on this literally 24 hours a day. Code is being deployed and new hardware being installed as I type. I’m very confident that it won’t be too long before these challenges around launch are behind us and we can look forward to a year of FIFA 10 and all its associated online features! Keep an eye on the Football Live Team’s updates in the meantime, here: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/f...-flt-team.html For Game Face updates specifically, check here: EA SPORTS Game Face Forum: EA Forums

Thanks for the update. To be honest though, I hope you guys concentrate on what is really wrong with the game, like Manager Mode, Online ranked matches disconnecting frequently, the gamertags above the players heads, camera angle online, the shooting, etc etc, instead of just fixing the gamerface thing.

gameface and online ranked matches disconnecting are both connected as they operate from the same server farm, data exchange between the databases etc which is why the tech teams are looking at all elements involved.
As for the MM and other points, those have all been highlighted and the dev team made aware so once the server issues have been resolved I am sure we will get an update about what the plan is for those.

Exactly. These are much more important issues. Sure, fixing Gameface would be nice and online connection issues are a must for those who actually play online, the offline things need major refining. For all the hype, MM seems to be a major disappointment this year.

What we're working on now is online stability - that's a big priority. We have to make sure people can play the game properly - everyone, everywhere. However, we're already compiling your feedback on issues such as this and will respond to that when we can.

you say the vast majority are not disconnecting.....
Ive got roughly 100 friends on psn and 90 - 95% of them are constantly getting disconnected. Just because not every person getting disconnected hasnt reported it doesnt mean its a "minority". EA is the biggest video games company in the world and one would assume EA have some the best computer programmers/technicans in world but they struggle run stable servers. Not good enough... |

Sad thing is there probably is only a handful of guys working on it if that, while the other highly paid employees enjoying there sunday doing whatever.
I can picture one of the EA staff ringing an EA programmer saying "we need you in work today, the fifa servers are disconecting hundreds of thousands of users" and his reply would be " haha tough, its sunday im spending my fat wages from fifa10, see you monday or when I can give a lalalala" |

the hell with online. how about focusing on patching the game and manager mode. there are way too many bugs.
EA advertised how there were 50 updates to Manager Mode. Well looks like they can advertise the same thing next year cause i can find 50 more things screwed up. Last edited by HoosierUSA; 05-10-2009 at 01:10 AM. |
