Update: May 1, 3:35am GMT

All, apologies on the downtime experienced today. This was caused by problems in our online authentication system. This was not a Ultimate Team specific problem and actually affected all EA servers. Services have since been restored.

This morning we will be running our weekly update at 6am GMT. Downtime will last up to 1 hour and will affect all of FIFA. Updates include:

- Disable auto kick-off our servers after 6 hours
- UT Leaderboard to show users' stats if they are in the top 10,000 (used to be only the top 100)
- UT Top 100 Leaderboard added
- UT Leaderboard to only include users that have completed 5 games in each game type (20 games total)
- New Match-making logic to find opponents of similar team rating

We have been investigating issues with some users having trouble connecting to our servers. We have multiple teams within EA trying to urgently diagnose the solution.

Update: May 8th, 1:45am GMT

The Ultimate Team database will be down for approximately 10 minutes at 6am GMT this morning (10pm PDT). During this time users will experience errors any time they interact with cards in the game. Users coming out of games during this time may not receive the coins they earned. It is recommended to not enter any matches before this time. To verify that the UT database is back-up you can search cards on the trade pile. If successful, services are back up and operational.

Update includes:

- Caching for cards/decks
- Query optimizations
- Re-balance of our Database load

In non-technical terms, this will just speed up connections to our database during peak usage times. This is major technical update to further increase stability, but most users will not see a visible difference.

We've fixed the issue with player names missing from the trading area on our internal servers. We plan to deploy at 10pm GMT to get the fix out asap to you all.

DB connections will be unavailable for 2 or 3 minutes while we update the server. To ensure you have regained connection, perform a trade search and if successful our services are back up.

Apologies on the delay in update. Been urgently working with the team to ensure we have a fix that we could deploy as soon as possible.

Update: May 12th, 8:00pm

I’m excited to be able to announce our plans to reward some of the early adopters of FIFA 09 Ultimate Team (aka "FUT") – we’ve had the plan in the works for a good time internally and it’s great to finally get the word out now. As you are aware, the launch of FUT was immensely popular, and because of this it challenged our server capacity for the first 3 weeks. That was unfortunate for our consumers and we want to make it up to you.

Now the day has come where we want to say thanks to all the FUT early adopters for their patience and feedback during those first three weeks. To that end, every fan who purchased FUT before April 10th will receive 10,000 coins (equivalent to two gold packs). For every fan who tried FUT but didn’t buy it prior to April 10th, they will receive 5,000 coins (equivalent to one gold pack). In reality, you can choose whatever you wish to do with these new coins: go pick up that rare player on the trade pile, make a more beefy trade offer, or buy a few packs and roll the dice on getting some awesome players! Starting on May 15th coins will begin getting distributed automatically to all eligible users. If eligible, all you need to do is log on to FIFA 09 Ultimate Team after this date and you’ll notice your coin balance has increased accordingly!

Update: May 14th, 11:20pm

We will be taking down FUT this morning starting with PS3 at 6am GMT (10pm PDT). PS3 will be down for approximately 1 hour. Depending on when this is completed we will move to X360 which will take the same length of time. During the time FUT is down if you are within the mode you will experience errors, if you are not already in the mode you will not be able to access. We recommend leaving FUT as we run our update.

Update includes:

- Free coins for our early adopters
- Additional DB Storage and general maintenance
- Increased server memory

To all the FIFA09 gamers who haven't tried FIFA 09 Ultimate Team yet, we want to make it a little more tempting.

For a limited period, starting 22nd May, all new Ultimate Team gamers will find a special surprise in their starter pack - a gold player! Yes, you heard it right, if you're a new FIFA Ultimate Team gamer your very first pack of cards will include a gold player that you can immediately integrate into your team or put up for trade to try and earn points to buy additional card packs.

The card will be randomly assigned from the database of gold players and even we don't know what you'll potentially receive when you unwrap that very first pack.

This is also a great opportunity for any existing Ultimate Team gamers who were thinking about starting from scratch to build their new championship winning team. We look forward to seeing you online!

We will be restarting both the X360 and PS3 DB component at 6am GMT (10pm PDT). The restart will bring down the DB for approximately 2 minutes (likely even faster). During this time you will experience errors searching for trades and dealing with cards in the front end menus. We recommend to take a quick break during this time!

Update is for:

- Changing the Starter Pack to have 1 Gold Player

This week marks the introduction a very exciting promotion for all FIFA Ultimate Team fans everywhere. We’re launching brand new player cards into the game and those players will all appear in Italian clubs.

Rather than just tell you who they are we’ve hatched an ingenious plan for a challenge. We’d like you to try and identify all three players and drop us a line and let us know who you think they are plus supply evidence of your finds. Submit proof by replying @EAFootballLive on Twitter (EAS FootballLiveTeam (EAFootballLive) on Twitter).

To give you a little head start, one of the players is more than a little famous. He’s renowned for changing his appearance regularly and for being the husband of a relatively famous woman. Plus he’s highly sought after in two different country’s leagues, neither of which is the domestic league of where he was born.

Congratulations to jayman1983 who was the first one to successfully identify the new players we released into Ultimate Team two weeks ago. For those of you still guessing, the players were David Beckham (AC Milan), Diego Milito (Genoa) and Mario Yepes (Chievo).

We had such a positive response that we’ve decided to launch some more players into the database. Again, rather than just tell you who they are we want to you to find them and update us who you think are the new players.

Just as before we’d like you to try and identify the players and drop us a line and let us know who you think the 12 new players are plus supply evidence of your hard work. Submit proof by replying @EAFootballLive on Twitter (EAS FootballLiveTeam (EAFootballLive) on Twitter).

This week we’ll give you a head-start on one of the players. He’s a player who has joined a big, if underachieving London football club. He shares a something with the owner of Chelsea football club and he is a striker.

Hey all,

Got 2 games in earlier, and looking forward to jumping back on in a couple hours. My match record is 1 - 1...

I must win some more, but the challenge has been tough! Had a few injuries in my first match which dropped my Chemistry from 92 to 52... unbelievable.

Will be providing some more details of the matches, including some video highlights early next week. Hope to see some of you at 2am GMT (6pm PDT).

It seems that we were a bit too thorough when it came to balancing the game and making certain cards hard to find. In fact, we were so successful that some of you have found it difficult to fully complete your collection.

Well, we continue to listen to you guys and we’ve tweaked player rarity for the rarest players to make it easier to complete your collections, and earn those all-important coins.

While it is not possible for us to address everything we read in these forums, we were able to adjust these rarities after some thorough investigations with the team. Thanks for all your feedback to date and Happy Hunting!

Servers will be updated at 6am GMT (10pm PDT). Downtime should be less than 1 minute.
