Common FIFA 09 Questions

The same threads appear on the boards day after day. Some from people who are new, some from people who can't be bothered to search.

I thought I would try to make a kind of Noob Wiki. Somewhere all the answers to common questions can be found. It's a work in progress, so add stuff and I will try to update.

So, off we go:

Squads and Players:

Q. Can I change the Arena Goalkeeper?

A. No

Q Can I edit kit numbers in MM?

A. No

Q. Will there be a Transfer Update after January?

A. Yes

Q. Can I save my custom team lineup for ranked games?

A. No

Q. Can you edit your players appearance in BAP ?

A. No

Updates and Settings:

Q. How do I get a Patch/Update when it is released?

A. They just appear as updates when you turn on the console and your are connected to Xbox Live / PSN. You will HAVE to update in order to play ONLINE.

Q. ALS updates but Beckham isnt in Milan.

A. Adidas Live Season only updates player "form" it does not do squad or team updates.

Q. Why can I not switch teams in the lobby/connect to friends?

A. Try this: Guide To Connect To Fifa With PS3 or XBOX

Q.How do I find my skill level

A. You can set up email alerts in the player hub from the main FIFA menu. You can also view ranking stats in the player hub too.

Q.Why am I not ranked

A. There are hundreds of thousands of players. Only the top 10,000 get a ranking place, so you need to keep playing and winning to build up your rank points.

Online Play:

Q. Why don't I get the win when my Opponent Quits?

A. Try This (ignore the title): Idea for 2010

Q. Can I play 2 v 2 with friends?

A. Yes: 2v2, 3v3, 2v1 - Its Easy

Q. Can I play with a guest (same console) online?

A. Yes quick ranked match only. You can't do Online team play with a guest. Press the "Y" ( PS3: Triangle ) button in the team select Lobby.

Q. Can I save my Online Goals?

A. NO.

Q: i want to play my favorite 2* team but the other player always chooses a 5* team. and I lose. abuser, whine, whine, whine, ronaldo, whine, whine, man u, whine, whine...

A: You have the option to quit in the lobby pre game with no penalty. If you stay, play and get beat, please dont come on here to blame the opponent. Try joining a league of lower star teams, the forums are also a good place to find match ups.

Q. How can I stop people lobbing my keeper from kick-off?

A. Rush the player. Hold A (PS3:X) and push towards the attacker. This will cause your forward to Pressure from kick off. Be ready to change direction to counter the Diagonal Run.

Q. What are the numbers under my Gamertag/PSN in-game?

A. They are your EASW points. Used on HERE: EA SPORTS World to buy stuff for your avatar. they do NOT relate to your rank in any way.

Q. How do I link my Gamertag/PSN to EASW

A. Read on here: EA Football World Guide: Account linking | viewing Videos/Photos | Creating an Avatar

General Gameplay:

Q. Man United are overated.

A. YES WE KNOW. No need to open a new thread, but thanks.

Q. Can I practice Free Kicks with a Wall?

A. Not easily. No training mode. You can however:
Set up a local 2 player game, 20 mins each way
Pick your team (whatever), and a half star player 2 team
Play the game, keep fouling yourself with the second controller.

Long winded, I know, but you asked - I didn't say it was perfect.

Q. How do I do the Celebrations?

A. Either, look in the help on the menu or click MY GUIDE here: Celebrations: All listed!!

Other:

Q. HELP. The EA Servers are down ( and its Tuesday....... )

A. Dont Fret. Every Tuesday the EA servers are taken offline for routine maintainence. It takes about an hour.

So, anything else anyone wants to add, feel free. I will try to update as necessary

Great great post DOA!! I hope that this thread gets stickied, as I'm sure it'll help a lot of people and also avoid cluttering the boards with the same threads day-in day-out. You should also add a question regarding how to get the Russian players like Arshavin and Zhirkov into free agents, as this question in asked pretty often. (Might as well mention that Zenit isn't in the game while you're at it, and that neither is the Brazilian Ronalo...not until the update at least.)

A. DON'T!!! it's a pathetic thing to do!

BTW I also use triangle, and I hit it in free play when an opponent releases a shot from edge of box, seems to help but might just me my imagination, thoughts?

Try here: Default Password List. Its a List of Default usernames and Passwords for routers. If you have never changed yours it will help. If you router is not listed, just google the "make/model followed by Default username/password"

A. Adidas Live Season only updates player "form" it does not do squad or team updates. Transfer updates are released a few weeks after the UK transfer window has ended. This is usually the middle to End of Febuary.
