OK, I own a PS3 and a 360 but prefer the 360 controller's size and heft. In other words, the PS3 controller is for little boys (but I do like the blu-ray). All this to say: I myself am interested in the 360 answers more than the PS3 answers but feel free to dual post because I know some of you are little boys!
Also if you have your own questions about the game that fit the title please neatly number (2 comes after 1 and so on) them and add them to this thread if you care to.Now then my friends, gather round for we will make our game yet more sound. I've read the PDF on 2009 gameplay and came away with a couple questions. 1. How exactly does one trap the ball? Is it simply holding the left trigger for better control prior to receiving the ball? I've noticed occasionally that if I tap the A button exactly when I receive a pass this has some settling effect. But surely this is a fluke because who would make the pass button the trap button? Not EA right? 2. How does one jostle whilst running? There's the left trigger mod which supposedly gives you pace control allowing one a stronger center of gravity but this slows one down. Not to mention I've seen the "strong" jostling done at full pace, not the "pace control" speed. So, what's the secret? How do you make your player push (or not be pushed by) other players? Is it right thumb stick to lean and left thumb stick to run? 3. Does the "shield ball" technique work? I always seem to get tackled off the ball almost instantly using it and so I quit using it. Perhaps it's related to #2 question in that you have to lean into the opponent to counter him? If so, how? Is it just left thumb stick? |

1. Trapping the ball is done automatically by the players, holding the Right Trigger makes the ball harder to trap and usually bounces off the players foot for half a yard or so when holding the Right trigger, so never hold it unless u have alot of space and are ready for a run, but i still wouldnt recommend EVER holding the Right Trigger unless u have open space to run into.
Holding the Left Trigger makes u control the ball much closer so defenders cant easily steal it from u after a Trap, would recommend doing it except when chesting the ball, sometimes the ball just bounces yards away when using ur chest and holding Left Trigger, not sure if this is just random. 2. Jostling while running is done automatically too, all depends on the players strength stats i believe, so while running and theres a defender beside you, u will jostle and i havent found any way of stopping them unless u have a stronger player. Or using the right trigger to run away from the defender if ur player is fast enough. 3. The shield ball technique works great but it requires some practise and you do need some time for ur player to get into the shielding position, now u cant just hold it and keep the ball for ever but you can hold the ball for a second or two longer while using it and right when the defender is about to tackle you u turn ur player to the opposite direction of the defender and ur clear for a run. Try it on Amatuer difficulty and u'll know wat i mean. Hope this helps. |

I'd rather get some actual answers than keep the banter going. So before I have to remake this thread because it's hosed from glue sniffers let's just agree to stop being funny (or trying to) and just post on-topic responses, OK?

4. How do you trap the ball gently on your chest and bring it under control at your feet? I find even if I give plenty of time for my player to set up his "shield ball" move the defender usually just runs in and knocks me off my feet. Playing on amateur isn't a great way to perfect that skill (imho) because the level of skill portrayed therein is nothing like a ranked match online (which is what I'm interested in). |

4. Now wat i usually do is just let the player trap it without me holding or pressing anything on the controller, that has usually worked, but i guess it all depends on if the player is under pressure or not, i havnt found another way yet.
Now shielding the ball thing is weird, u do have to try to have ur back to the defender, it has worked with me but am not that good at it cuz i dont really use it much, u do have to have a decently sized player. When i hold right trigger to activate the shield it usually gives me an extra second, but u cant do it when ur surrounded by players, its more of a 1-on-1 thing, but then again EA have made the game so that defenders can tackle the ball even when u have ur back to them which just annoys the hell out of me. |

I have an x box and use LB and LT when receiving the ball, whether through the air or the ground. LB traps the ball but also faces you on goal. If you dont want to face goal then tap it and quickly use the Left stick to move back in the desired direction.
Seems to work for me - unless I am imagining it! |

Not a combo or very advanced but very effective - Use the feint left/right when approaching a defender, he should be fooled. Then use the left stick to exit in the opposite direction that you performed the feint. Leaves the defender stranded 90% of the time and gives you valuable space. |

Im sorry if my answers didnt solve your problems, it might be the fact that we, as ps3 owners, are little kids and have a hard time executing the skills due to our small hands
