Default PLEASE HELP - Manager Mode Freezing Problem in Fifa 09 PS3

I am playing manager mode in Fifa 09 on PS3 and i am a few seasons in, after purchasing many new players to create my "dream team". However suddenly when i tried to get to the next game, it won't let me.

Whether i sim the match or play it, when it gets to the loading page and the trivia question comes up, at the bottom the bar says "simulating", goes up to 11% then freezes. The background still moves and the current song still plays, but the screen will not progress to the next one where they show your cash flow. (i have left it for up to half an hour and it still doesnt move, so im sure it has frozen). The only way to get out of it is to quit the game via the Xmedia bar.

I have tried many things to avoid this problem but it always freezes at the exact same spot every time (11% simulating). This means i am unable to progress any further in my manager mode file.

My disc is pretty much brand new, there are no scratches or marks on it. I have more than enough memory on my hard drive but i dont think that is the problem. The game version is up-to-date as well as my PS system software.

Does anyone else have this problem? Could you please help me in a way to correct this problem without having to delete my file?

Default manage mode freeze!!!

why is it that consumers of the product FIFA 09 are complaining about this issue all over the internet and EA Sports are doing nothing - nada, zilch - about it? This started happening to me back in early December 2008 and not a squeek out of EA about this problem.

Can't they undersand how frustrating it is to go through 3 or 4 seasons with a team, tweak your players, buy new players, take on young players to develop them, and then BLAMMO - its all over, there is nothing you can do to get passed the game freezing up!

The 'best' football game ever made, and this happens!?! Come on guys, fix the bug please! It cant be that hard for you to mend this glitch, can it?

Pretty please?

I've had it too about 5 seasons in. I had to start again. I've doubled up so I now have 2 version of the same MM saved and am running them in tandom.

Hopefully if one goes I can use the back up and only lose a couple of games at most, but it is infuriating.

Default Taking the p1zz

I have done 4 seasons in manager mode and every season has frozen after 3 or 4 seasons in.

I have had various discussions with EA regarding this since before Christmas up to last month. Only recently did i get a response where they werent trying to blame me and things i may have been doing to make it freeze!! Finally I spoke to someone who sent me the following

......the game accesses the same information regardless of the year that your Club is in, so if the disk was the problem, you would see this freeze in the first year. What it sounds like is happening is as you progress in your Career, your save file gets larger and larger. Thus, the game has a harder time loading and saving this file. While this should not be a problem, i have seen similar instances of it. This is definitely something we are aware of and are investigating.....

and then he wrote

.......I believe that the problem lies in the save files themselves. Whether that be the total size of the file, or perhaps even something happening with the rosters. This is something our dev team will need to discover and build a fix for. I would continue to browse our official forums and also keep an eye on the main fifa site for any up to date information.......

This is all very annoying. I love the game but what the hell is the point if it is going to keep freezing. I don't know what is more disappointing, the fact the game freezes or the feeling EA are freezing us out!! I feel like they couldn't give a hoot which is a mega shame.

I have had this problem too, but believe that I've now found a work-around as I picked up my spending spree trophy this morning

EA customers Services claim that the error is due to corrupted game saves. I doubt that this is true as a corrupted file should not be accessible and it shouldn't be possible to load the game if the data is corrupt.

Remember on the PS2 when data was corrupted; instead of the colourful animated logo on the memory card manager, there was just a big purple box and a tag of 'corruped data'. File was unaccessible. No such thing on the PS3.

My theory is that for data to become corrupt, something must interfere at the time of saving. Since FIFA does the saving for you (Autosave feature) I simply disabled this in the profile settings on the main menu.

Now when you play through FIFA you will get lots of annoying messages asking if you want to save every time you make a squad change, deal in the transfer market or simply play a match. Stick with it. ONLY save via the Save option in the Manager Mode menu, always so NO when the message appears after you do something during gameplay. Save every 5 games or so in case of a crash or power cut for example.

I managed to get further than ever before in Manager Mode using this method. As long as you are in control of the saves, there shouldn't be any risk of corrupted game data.

After the end of the January transfer window in Season 2 I had made 50 signings and unlocked the Spending Spree trophy. Woo-hoo!

Previously I could never make it this far because of a freeze either on the 'simulating' screen or in the arena. This freeze was permanent and existed whether I simmed or played a match. Starting over again was my only choice.

I hope this technique works for you guys too.

My PSN ID is Bigburt82 if you want to add me

My MM's crashed when at some point in the career i had signed a scouted player from another club.

In MM's when i have only raised my own scouted players, it has not crashed.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but ive lost about 6 when i have signed scouted players from other clubs and i have completed 15 seasons about 4 times when i havent signed scouted players from other clubs.

Default Same

I had a manager mode where i played upto 2014. I was one game off 2015, and it froze for me, on the same simulating part where everyone seems to have the problem..
I had this issue before, but i simmed past it, but now it just won't budge.

I decided their was nothing i could do and started a new season. I got around a year in and it happened again.

I then made another manager mode, and it happened 2/3 games in, and this is a recurring problem.. I purchase a few, sell a few in the transfer market and bang, the simulating problem happens again.

I tolerated it at first, but now it's really irritating. Surely it should be fixed, by the looks of things many have had the same problem.
With Manager Mode being a main reason i go on and play the game, i now find no reason to play it.

Why can't this be sorted? Enough people have complained!

Cheers Bigburt, I haven't tried this yet but I certainly shall , I'm only my second season in the Jan window at it freezes at 66% after playing bournemouth in the FA cup round lol. Fingers crossed your theory works,

Lots of people have had the freeze after 2 or 3 seasons. surely the file shouldn't be very large this early in your career. seems odd that this would be causing the problem.

I always auto save, and ive only had the freeze once in 22 Seasons so i doubt it's auto save which is causing it.

fifa 09 has more holes in it than a pin cushion . "Relax fifa 10 is out soon" < lets hope fifa 10 is not the proverbial pin cushion either. Somehow I'm apprehensive. If it is lets just hope fifa 10 or 11 or 12 or....................
