I used to be hardcore PES for years...until 2009.

PES2009 looks and plays like a cheap 1970's game, it is shockingly lalalala, I still cant belive how bad it is...dont they know PS3 is next generation??? not spectrum 128k!!

honestly i play PES2009 more, but only cuz it's more customizable and more mods are available. formations are also easier to customize in game and players and teams are easily adjusted unlike FIFA2009

i feel that FIFA2009 is more fun and feels more like an arcade game
but PES2009 is more realistic and feels more like a simulation game

i still play FIFA2009 because it's easy to get bored of PES2009, plus the AI and Ref are better in FIFA2009. however, FIFA2009 is just not realistic sometimes and it's all about speed, no skill

however, i bought both games, i play both, and i enjoy both

neither is better than the other

Heh, i'm sure this forum will give a biased view, but everyone says Fifa is alot better, not played PES myself.

This is the first year I haven't bought PES, I played the demo and it felt wooden and having invested in a PS3 and an HD TV last year mainly on the fact that I wanted the "full fat" PS3 PES 2008 and not just an PS2 update, I was not happy with the bowl of curdled milk it turned out to be (to continue the metaphor.). It was shockingly bad. It was still more responsive that fifa 08 on the PS3, which was sluggish, but overall pes 2008 was a major let down.

What I do miss about PES are the subtleties. For instance, in master league (equivalent of MM) the COM wouldn't always put out the default first 11 like fifa seems to do, subject to injuries or suspensions.

Because it has player form arrows, it would use more squad members and force you to do the same. Also due to stamina issues (which it wouldn't always get the balance right) you would have to think about resting players for upcoming games or risk taking them off early to preserve them a bit. After a season or so in MM you can pretty much play the same 11 all the time without any worries.

Also when it put on an extra striker it would alter the COMs formation to accommodate the player. Fifa often swaps a defender for an extra striker but then plays him at the back in a straight swap. I played Fulham last night who brought Dempsey on for Hangeland and did just this.

Finally, in pes, as players have different types of growth, some players will get to a certain age and stop developing and even decline before the end of their careers forcing you to move players out and replace them. Also players would announce plans to retire at the end of the season forcing you to again look for replacements. I don't know if this happens in fifa MM because I've only got as far as 4 seasons before I suffered the MM bug and had to start again.

Some of these thing may be down to the licensing restrictions in fifa but they are the things I miss from PES. But at the moment Fifa is the better game... otherwise I wouldn't be here. I do wilalalala had a proper "slow" speed. I though fifa 08 was a good setting for slow even if it wasn't everyone's cup of tea as the only option. Slow mode this year seems to me what normal should be. Since it isn't, playing on fast must be a blur.

Ive been a pro evo fan all my life!

This year, Fifa ripped them apart... i own fifa and havent played the new pro evo 2009 yet but the gameplay looks exactly the same

The only improvement in pes 2009 is graphics

Any fifa game is better than any pro evo game. End of discussion.

Having played Pes over Fifa for the last 10/11 years i can easily say Fifa 09 is a country mile ahead of Pes this year.

And to be fair i dont see Pes catching up on Fifa for the next few years at least.

It is such a good game that even when you get beat you enjoy it.

It has got atmosphere, gameplay, graphics and great updates that kick Pes into touch

the only thing worh mentioning about PES is the BAL which is miles better than the BAP seasons. About Master League and MM are they both bad?

I like how PES seems realistic in some ways. Fifa, I seem to see similar goals over and over (not the way I score) but how the ball goes in. It's always been kinda like this in Fifa.

well asking that on a fifa 09 thread, your going to get "pes sucks, fifa is the best" or something like that, but it really depends on how u like to play i guesss, and wat really matters to youi in a game, there like different worlds so you cant really say which is better.... but jus look up some vids or try the game yourself...

I don't agree with that. You have a lot of ex-PES players on FIFA09 threads (like me)

And I'm not sure what is better - PES6 or FIFA09 - PES6 has a more fluid movement than FIFA and much better and user-friendlier editing options but cutbacks and back pass exploits are a big flaw as well as body balance usage (anyone called for Adriano?).

On the other side I really enjoy FIFA gameplay and flow of the game. The only "exploit" I have found in FIFA is soft-lobbed shot when the keeper runs towards you (but since he will catch almost any of your ball if you try to dribble him, it's nothing really bad). Speaking of flaw I find in FIFA is long distance shot - as a matter of fact shot physics.

In PES you have positions and turns on which if you perform there you can really expect a goal. In FIFA that's not the case - almost every shot is a roulette or I'm missing something. Speaking of glitches, referee is definetly a waste and I hate when I cannot switch my player until someone touches the ball which is in air no matter how hard I hit the switch button.

So it's something like this:

PES6 - almost perfect fast gameplay but with a big exploit danger
FIFA09 - perfect mid-paced gameplay with a dozens of small glitches which threat to ruin the joy of playing perfect game.

Because of it - I really cannot favour any game. I would call a draw.

But PES2008/09 over FIFA08/09? Definetly FIFA.

For real. IMO, the only way to come up with a conclusion like he wrote is if the last fifa game you played was fifa 06 and just assumed that the crown was still in pes' court and you're living in the past. IMO.
