Default Backline Problems

I cant get my backline to stay back. I have even went as far as using a sweeper, setting defence tactics to deep & contain, yet opponents still can play through balls in behind or over the top of my defence. What can I do?

Edit the formation and move them right back, And when the opponent is on the attack, select a defender and run back.

The idiots will never stay back, even if your pressure is on 0 and aggression 0 on custom tactics. (believe me I have tried it!)

The only way to avoid counter attack is to not lose the ball.

I have the opposite problem. I set attack to the most aggressive setting yet my team does hardly cross the middle line. ***?

Exactly. The default work rate for every player on the pitch is set at medium attack and medium defence. You should change all your defenders to low attack and high defence. Another thing you can do is edit the player runs. You can make all the defenders run back when you're not in possession and when you are in possession, they'll still stay back. And also don't forget to set the tactics to cover rather than offside trap

i'd have to play you to find out what's going on but it would be really surprising if it was the settings.

Can you change formation settings for online teams before you connect to an online game?

Or, do you have to edit custom formations and things, before each and every online game is played?
