Can anyone PLEASE tell me how the club rankings / leagues work?

I've searched through quite a few threads on this forum but no-one (including EA it may seem!) seems to know quite how this works??

I was told that as long as you have more wins than losses that you'll get a ranking and put into a league?? Since our team had 9 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses we were expecting a ranking, it never came!! Thats when I started searching on here but I couldn't find anything...

So... how does it work
