Been playing loads of ranked matches over the past four days and I am now absolutely, positively, 100% convinced that all the symptoms we have been describing in this thread are caused by poor connection issues. Couple this with negative momentum due to your players odd behaviour and the game becomes impossible to play. I was in a ranked match against someone from Mexico the other day and my striker would take THREE extra touches before shooting after I had hit the button. If I was on a breakaway I pretty much had to hit shoot in the centre circle to actually unleash a shot before being smothered by the goalkeeper.
I'm seriously hoping that we will be able to ID the connection strength and/or the location of our opponent before accepting the match-up in FIFA 10. It's ludicrous that you have to actually start the match before seeing the lag or being able to access the opponent's gamer card to view where they are from. It's also ludicrous that, as a UK player, I am regularly matched up with players from Japan, Australia or South America. There are tens of thousands of people playing this game across Europe at any one time. |

Skip forward to 0:24 of this: YouTube - Pathetic AI on FIFA 09 online
As you can see, the defender takes on a very heavy touch - note that I issued absolutely NOTHING from the controller to the player to do anything, merely receive the ball and turn to pass was my intention, instead it takes a disastrous whack of his shins and straight to the opposition. The pass my the keeper was a tap on pass too (nothing heavy) - perhaps the connection perceived me to be holding down the pass button - this is unacceptable, and prooves the unplayability of the game, and how, since December, the ability to take on first time shots/passes and trapping the ball has become almost impossible. Another thing to note in the game since the pathetic UT patch - the linesmen when flagging for offsides, suddenly lower the flag (like changing their mind!!), jog for a second or two and then decide to put the flag up again! Its OBVIOUS something has changed in the game since that last patch - EA Sports, we are not the dellusional fools that you take us for.

good to know you're keeping up the good fight. the only reason this game is the "best football game ever" is because every other one ever made is pure ****spray. they've done something to it, they've pretended they didn't. they made it crappier so we'd have to buy 10. we're not idiots. your game is a shameful piece of ****.

and honestly. you know this might sound like heresy but really...try another game made by another developer and for all the flaws that might be within that game i assure you it pales in comparison to this load of ****.
ex: killzone 2, plenty of problems etc etc but for instance...the mics work it's easy to find a game that isn't laggy your online rank doesn't suffer after mysterious updates and addons you get honest answers from the games devs online gameplay is smooth. you don't have to open 320493843 ports only for it to not do jack****. and the list goes on and on. fifa is unplayable. oh and one more to the list THEY FIX AND EXPLAIN **** PEOPLE ACTUALLY KNOW IS HAPPENING THEY DON'T COME UP WITH SOME SORDID BULL**** PROBLEM WHICH ISNT THERE TO EXPLAIN WHAT THEY DID THAT ****ED THE GAME UP. |

Since the UT patch, I've noticed the following:
EA Sports stress that nothing has changed since the patch - such incredible horse ****, and then they have to refer to us as dellusional in a podcast!

^ any video proof maybe considered as inconclusive though because we also have to prove the controls issued. For example, Dave Rutter or anyone from EA Sports could say I set the above up deliberately, by holding down pass for a harder more forceful throw from the keeper, and using right analog-stick to heavily first-touch the ball straight back into the path of the striker.
Let me assure you that I didn't do this, but what side of the story are EA Sports going to take, or anyone for that matter? At the end of the day, its our word against another. Its so hard to proove, and thats the frustrating thing about this thread and our inability to do so since December. So here's pleading for more video footage of these instances of flawed and dozy AI, random and erratic player switching, misplaced passes, etc... the more proof there is, the stronger and more genuine our campaign gets.

^ i agree with your points on the controls issued. but anyone could see that in your video the keeper gently rolls the ball along the ground, and the defender is trying to control it rather than knock it back to the keeper.
I would like to see what Rutter and Co think of it.

I have noticed something strange over the past few weeks.
Due to connecting a new wireless streetfighter gamepad and keeping it's dongle in my player 1 usb port, the official PS3 gamepad I use for FIFA, now defaults to player 2. Resulting in my Addidas live season not effecting players attributes at all, which in turn has made my game play 100 times better. I then set it back to player 1 and alot of the niggles mentioned in this thread began to resurface. I'm beggining to think that it's ALS that is one of the problem's.

But people have been having these problems who don't use ASL.
BTW, anyone having problems shooting in the last few months or so? it's not just me as I've noticed it with my club mates and 2v2 that a lot of the time, the power gauge goes to MAX! with just a slight press of the button, if it's a shot ...it goes 40ms over the bar just noticing it's happening a lot more than normal, could be just lag though

It would be nice to find out if EA at least know what is causing it now.

Its always been like that in clubs for me but recently my club games have been really good. And the few 1v1 games have been ok too.

I think if it was just one thing causing the problems, EA would have fixed it by now.
I fear that because it's maybe a number of things combined together be it online lag, ASL, together with the tactic sliders. That it may not be that easy to fix.

well done glen. its fully deserved and hope you enjoy yourself mate. hopefully you can give us some feedback on 2010 and how good/bad it is.
1 thing im so interested to be asked is: what provisions have been taken to make sure next years game is not going to be a repeat of the shambles of this years release. i think if there is only 1 question asked it should be this, for all of us who have suffered and wasted £40. I've just accumulated a run of 9 defeats in 10 and lost huge rank points that I worked so hard to get back over the past few weeks, because EVERY game I've played tonight is 100% unplayable with control latency.
Games were running perfectly smooth (no lag, no connection issues), only player switching is incredibly bad, AI is ferociously handicapped and passing is the worst I've ever seen it; I might as well be holding the pass button down for an eternity becuase thats the kind of pass I'm getting even after merely tapping it!! After very good form of late, I was starting out at 2980 tonight and just one win away from achieving what I wanted - to peak ahead of 3000 rank points and draw a closure on ranked gaming in FIFA 09 for good. How wrong could I have been - I could never and will never be cheated in all my life as much I have been tonight, so much that I just want to boost for the sake of my own tireless efforts and dignity, and put the ****ing thing to bed!! Love the game and football so much, but do I really deserve what is being inflicted on me? Utter humiliation.
