Default Online Problems Tutorial XBOX/PS3

Access your router menu by typing in the long Router Address (which is a line of numbers) into the browser page address. eg 192.168.1.254

The internal, LAN-IP address is normally set to a default, private number. Linksys routers, for example, use 192.168.1.1 for their internal IP address. D-Link and Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. Some US Robotics routers use 192.168.123.254, and some SMC routers use 192.168.2.1. No matter the brand of router, its default internal IP address should be provided in documentation. Administrators often have the option to change this IP address during router setup. In any case, however, the private LAN-IP address remains fixed once set. It can be viewed from the router's administrative console.

Now you need to set up a static IP address.

You need to go to the DMZ menu option in your router through your router menu. Make sure this is not conflicting with any other device as it will not work very well.

Once you have done that, it is time to set the ports up.

On page 20 of the FIFA manual there is a list of ports.

Go into the Port Forwarding Menu in your Router Menu (This is sometimes called Application & Sharing or Gaming Menu or Other) and set the ports up that it says in the book. I created a new application name and then linked these ports to it and saved it as FIFA09.

Those are as follows

TCP 80 to 80
TCP 9980 to 9989
TCP 12400 to 12499
TCP 30400 to 30499

UDP 3659 to 3659
UDP 9570 to 9570
UDP 9808 to 9811
UDP 9858 to 9861

Now link the IP address that you made earlier to these ports and the Application you linked the ports to.

Note - Remember to save your progress every step of the way.

OK, that is all that open and done.

Now, for your PS3.

Go into Settings, Internet Connection Settings (Wireless), Choose Custom, Enter Manually and then follow and do not alter anything until you get to the section that says IP address, enter this manually and enter the one you chose as your Static IP address. Now save all that.

For An XBOX 360, follow this.

"System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings." and enter the static IP address you got from your router.

I have also found that allot of problems are solved on FIFA by clearing the Cache, this is done as so.

To clear the cache on the Xbox 360 do the following:

Go to the Xbox Dashboard, select the System Blade, and select Memory.
Highlight the HD symbol and press Y.
Press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X.

You will see a confirmation message to confirm system maintenance, proceed.

This will clear all the updates you have had for previous games but they can be put back very easily and it does not damage your xbox.

I have had a few people email me and they have had success with this method for their XBOX.

Deleting all the squad and profile information from any FIFA game has also helped in some cases.

You are done.

You may want to restart your router for things to take effect but other than that this should work wonders as it did for me.

If anyone wants to add to this then please feel free and I will edit the post.

NOTE
If you still have problems, check that your area has a line big enough for the connections on this site as it often reports problems for users and shows info that sometimes it is the ISP's fault.

DSL · Cable · VOIP · Security · Satellite · Fiber · News · Tips · Reviews · Community · Tools - dslreports.com

NOTE
I have noticed that with some routers, it loses the connection with the static ip address and so if you have a problem again after it worked, go back and see if it has unlinked itself in your router. The reason it may lose the IP adress is because the router is still assigning a IP to the PS3 by DHCP. Somewhere within the routers menu you should be able to reserve an IP adress for the PS3/XBOX, and no other device will ever be able to connect using the reserved IP

NOTE
I have just noticed that my PS3 had changed the IP back to before. So if the problem returns, check that your console, be it xbox or ps3 does not reset the IP back to what it was previously.

Good guide mate although it seems to focus purely on the HomeHub so some may find the title misleading.

To offer a little assistance though, the reason it may lose the IP adress is because the router is still assigning a IP to the PS3 by DHCP. Somewhere within the routers menu you should be able to reserve an IP adress for the PS3, and no other device will ever be able to connect using the reserved IP.

I dont have a home hub, but you'll need to look for a setting/menu called 'attached devices' or 'LAN IP Setup' or perhaps under the DHCP menu itself. The process envolves telling the router that the MAC adress for the PS3 is the only device that can use the IP.

eg. IP = 192.168.1.270 MAC = 00:27:E9:2L:52:14 Device = PS3

Sorry I cant be a bit more specific, but if you get stuck let me know what menu's / options you have and I'll try to guiude you in the right direction.

Could I also suggest you add a 'Useful Links' section to the bottom and include some useful sites. You might like to include the following: (I've posted the bbcode under each one for you to copy & paste for speed)

HeavyD14's Common Router Guide to DMZ & Static IP
Code:
url=http://www.geocities.com/jimbobjoe14580/dmz.html]HeavyD14's Common Router Guide to DMZ & Static IP[/url (... add [ to the beginning and ] to the end)
PortForwarding.com
Code:
url=http://portforward.com/routers.htm]PortForwarding.com[/url (... add [ to the beginning and ] to the end)
Hope this helps.

GM

EDIT: What happend to the [code] command? - It used to stop formatting in that box??
EDIT 2: Had to mess with it a bit - still wont work as it should.

Sorry, what I ment was, you explain it as this:

That, I would imagine, is the process for you BT HomeHub. However if I were to follow that process on say, a Netgear Router, I would get lost pretty early on as the NetGear uses 'Services' & 'Firewall Rules' (not gaming friendly terminology lol), and although many would be able to muddle through, people that arnt very technically minded would struggle.

I don't want to sound like I'm being really negative & critical, I just want to offer a little advice! =)

The links I gave you should be able to translate the process a little for people with different routers.

No, I understand mate.

I am going to have a look around and see if I can get an idea on how to organise it into two parts for both consoles and a more universal router guide.

OK, this is now a sticky and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aurora for help in making this happen.

The thing that is left now is to build on this, so the problem because a thing of the past.
