Keep us informed if EA give you an answer to why this problem occurs. there must be certain circumstances in which it happens as it hasnt happened to me yet.

Will keep you informed. Hoping they will get back to me soon, as i am not willing to start a new career mode until this is resolved...

Would be nice if Mr Rutter or one of the other designers would say something as i know they regularly frequent this messageboard...

Here's the latest crazy idea/theory from EA Sports:

'Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. Your issue has been escalated. I understand you are unable to get past a certain point in Manager Mode of FIFA 09. Based off your previous emails it sounds to me your save file has become corrupted. However, before we address that I would like for you to try a different step. Please create a new franchise under a new save file. Please select the same team you are currently using. Please simulate through the seasons until you get to the same point you are currently at. If you are able to get past this point we can narrow the issue down to a corrupted save file. However, if you are still experiencing the same issue please reply back to this email with an update and I will be more than willing to look into this further. If you have any further questions please visit us at http://support.ea.com.

Regards,

GM Joe
Player Relations
Electronic Arts'

So basically, what they want me to do is sit there and simulate through 3 seasons to see if it stops at the same place?

Considering the differences and variables, its doubtfull the same thing will happen again. Bearing in mind transfers wont happen, trophies wont be won, and promotions wont happen...

Im really getting fed up with EA Sports...

What causes the save file to become corrupted? I hope EA are getting to the root of the problem so this won't happen in Fifa 2010.

Default Try 8 and 3/4 seasons

I chose Bury (CC2) with the intention of taking a half * team all the way to the top - sitting their whilst winning the majority of trophies and championships year after year - (FIFA provides not only a game - it's the enabler of an ideal!) then after my fifteenth season i'd look back through my career and enjoy the satisfaction in knowing I had set out and become the all time greatest manager...

Messi... Ronaldo... Ribery - not to mention -
J. Bocos (94 o/a - 25 years old - my mirror image/my bizarro talent wise)...
As a matter of fact, the starting line-up was at 91+...

Slap my face and bring me back to reality with your bug.
Your Kafka inspired insect...
Your grotesque crash when the load reaches 33%
Quit game, reset, reload and crash me again at 33%
Delete everything bar MM progress, reset, reload and crash me again at 33%...

After spending months waiting for 09.
After staying loyal from mega drive's Fifa International soccer...
EA will repay me (its bread and butter - the consumer) by not looking into this S*** of a problem?

Kudos...

tombo...
I understand...

i have exactly the same issue, in my first season the game crashes at 33%. i had baught the game when it first came out and this happened, i was then unable to play any matches at all, no matter if it was a friendly or in manager mode.

so i sold the game (thinking the cd was damaged, cheeky i know but so what) i then baught the game again but could still not play the game.

i reset my whole ps3 back to factory settings and everything was hunky dory.

So me thinking that everything was fixed (and feeling stupid because i sold my first game) i started a new manager mode only for the program to crash on 33% on simulating other results in the january transfer window.

Default Frustrated!

Same problems with Rangers FC, now in my 10th season. After playing or Quick-Simming the next match against Galatasary in a First Round ECC match the game crashes at 69% while simulating.

After 10 seasons with the same team building them up, buying and training up Messi, Dos Santos etc. then this lalalala. Even Allan McGregor the Keeper was up at 97 OVR.

I can remember this being a problem in Fifa07 and Fifa 08.

But sayin that Fifa 09 is still a great game, they just need to take a little more time to get the bugs sorted before releasing the game.

I experienced the same issue too but i tried deleting the whole game,
and installed Fifa 09 to hard drive, then the manager mode crashing is gone.

Not sure if it's 100% works for others, but worth trying.

I havn't come across this problem as of yet, but its very disappointing when Ea wont fix a problem when people is paying so much money for the games.

That doesn't work on the 360. I've done 10 MM's with the same result every time. Since I haven't heard anything from EA, Mods, or Official Post, I'm selling my copy today. I'm really disappointed.

Default Fix

All I can say is this worked for me so its worth a try.

What was happening:

During 'simulating' matches progress, the progress bar would get stuck at 83% after my Ancona vs Parma game. (Later I realised that it broke straight away if I tried to create a new mm game, on 84%)

Logic: What is it doing at 83%? Starting a new one proved that around that point it was 'creating transfer list'. Cancelling my transfers the week before Ancona vs Parma game didnt work, so it wasn't to do with the players I was attempting to buy. I remembered, (now this may be the case for some but not all of you, give the solution a try regardless) that when I was playing 'be a pro' season it crashed and afterwards one of the players in the Darlington team (P. Abbot, although I'm sure that was random) messed up, he had very unusual stats from that point on and his name and attributes were assigned randomly each game.

Solution: At the fifa 09 main menu, go to settings or options (I can't remember which as I was helping out a friend and don't actually own a ps3), reset squads to default (I believe it is the option at the bottom of the list underneath Player Creation (It warns you that you will lose UNSAVED created data), select yes/accept.

Progress: FIXED. I can now start a new MM mode, and I did the exact same thing (until 2nd game vs. Parma) and the crash did not happen, I have played further and it works like a dream.

Precaution: I now keep a 2nd save and update them alternately per game. This may or may not help, I don't know, as the problem appears to be fixed. I reckon this will fix it for about half of you, although I am aware that a lot of you crash at 33%, still worth a try.

Guys

Sorry for the thread bump but before you play your match just create a new save under a new location and call it something different, quit manager mode and then go back into and it will work.

Sorted

I have had this problem too, but believe that I've now found a work-around as I picked up my spending spree trophy this morning

EA customers Services claim that the error is due to corrupted game saves. I doubt that this is true as a corrupted file should not be accessible and it shouldn't be possible to load the game if the data is corrupt.

Remember on the PS2 when data was corrupted; instead of the colourful animated logo on the memory card manager, there was just a big purple box and a tag of 'corruped data'. File was unaccessible. No such thing on the PS3.

My theory is that for data to become corrupt, something must interfere at the time of saving. Since FIFA does the saving for you (Autosave feature) I simply disabled this in the profile settings on the main menu.

Now when you play through FIFA you will get lots of annoying messages asking if you want to save every time you make a squad change, deal in the transfer market or simply play a match. Stick with it. ONLY save via the Save option in the Manager Mode menu, always so NO when the message appears after you do something during gameplay. Save every 5 games or so in case of a crash or power cut for example.

I managed to get further than ever before in Manager Mode using this method. As long as you are in control of the saves, there shouldn't be any risk of corrupted game data.

After the end of the January transfer window in Season 2 I had made 50 signings and unlocked the Spending Spree trophy. Woo-hoo!

Previously I could never make it this far because of a freeze either on the 'simulating' screen or in the arena. This freeze was permanent and existed whether I simmed or played a match. Starting over again was my only choice.

I hope this technique works for you guys too.

My PSN ID is BigBurt82 if you want to add me

Default My story

This is a real sad story (for me and my brother)......
I'd tried my hand at the manager mode with Werder Bremen and played 12 successful seasons (won everything every year) and wanted a new challenge.
So me and my brother decided we would make each other as players and play for Leeds United.
We wanted to bring them back to the premier league and win them the champions league as they tried to themselves.
We were flying playing co-operative and to keep us occupied (after dominating England and Europe year after year) we decided to try and make as much money as possible.
So after selling some players to invest in our new scouting venture (we focused solely on the scout upgrade as at the time we were not making much money).
We thought as these Leeds players were at the start of our managerial campaign were on such a low wage (which we would keep them on even when renewing their contracts), our match-day funding and ticket sales could really benefit our idea.
We where sending scouts out and getting in players to replace our top-players ie. Diego from Werder Bremen (for us after 2 seasons worth £50m!) for a scouted player. Not only did our scouted player play better, he was sold for more! We kept on doing this, signed every scouted player we got then sold him in the next window.
We had everyone: Ribery, Messi, Diego etc.
We ended up in our 15th season. Me and my brother (as footballers) were the most valuable and best force in the world on the game. The team we had around us were the best, unbeatable. We even conjured up a fortune of just over a Billion which I never even thought was possible! And then, as we were about to play Barcelona in the Copa Europe, we decided to play the game.
We beat Barcelona 6-0 on world class and when we finished, as usual the loading screen came up and then......It froze. We were on our last season.
We never even got to finilalalala, we've tried everything.
Sort it out EA Sports. I'm considering therapy......
