Ok i've read and heard a few people saying the best way to defend is to jockey, so i thought i'd try it out tonight my defence before was ok not brilliant but not bad either, but since i tried to jockey the opponent, they just run past my player, tonight i was getting absolutly battered.
The times i tried to do this in a game is when the opponent was running towards my player i woud then start to jockey but it didn't work for me at all, now all i did was hold down L2 on the PS3. so what am i missing, when should i do this in a game should i hold X at the same time, does the opponent need to be at a certain distance before trying to jockey? any tips would be grateful thanks. |

Ah right do you buy them in the fan shop because i thought it was taken out of FIFA 09, and how many credits do i need? i guess the game will resemble that of Polo so it should be fun, although i've not seen anyone on horseback play me so will this approach be considered cheating?

lol at least some one can take a joke around here
defence is a art thats pretty hard to master, what i find best for me is to always switch to using one of the centre backs whilst using the x button (xbox 360) to call one of my midfielders back and apply pressure on the player on the ball. if you hold it long enough and he applys good pressure he usually wins the ball or knocks it on and then you just use you centre back to pick up any loose balls . When doing this properly it is really effective as your defence drops off and your midfield drop back to pressure your opponent (plus they dont usually concentrate on the dropping midfielder(s) as they automatically think you are not controlling him). I dont know what you mean by jockeying but i think your talking about applying pressure with the player your controlling by holding down the a button. This is not really effective as it is easily read and all the opposition have to do is turn you |

yeah jockeying just sort of slows down your defender so they are not beaten as easily. If you hold sprint aswell as jockey your player will sort of jog which is better IMO. You only hold A (or X i think) if the attacker knocks the ball away from their feet a little, you can then steal the ball with ease, very effective. You just have to watch the attackers dribbling very closely and look for any mistakes which is then your chance to take the ball with a conservative or slide tackle. Just like real football. Hope this answers your question bud

there is a time to jockey and a time to run like hell.........just watch the attacker and choose the most appropriate defensive position.
The aim is not always to get the ball but the be in front of the attacking team to block/tackle or push them back. One of the biggest mistakes is attacking the ball too much if they are counter attacking you or breaking against you #1 priority is to get goal side and then look at how to tackle or "jockey" them |

In most cases, once the Attacker is goal side, jockeying is not necessarily the best option. try to get back infront, for example: If the attcajer is running down the wing, don't waste time chasing him out there, take a diagonal line back towards goal and intot the space he will be heading for. |
