Default Where is my defence?!

Guys, FIFA lovers, PES converts, EA...listen up.

I'm at skill level 18, I know how to play this game. But through my own personal observations I have noticed an issue with team balancing. Perhaps this is to even out the game, or make matches exciting. But there is something very 'forced' and scripted about FIFA 09's score line strategies and I believe EA have made key weak spots in the game for when you can score what appears to be a very easy goal.

The best way to notice this, would be to have a match between two 5 star teams. Manchester United v Barcelona. Not a good player vs. a bad player. I'm talking two players' that know how to play this game.

There's a lot of variation in the scoring system, it's pretty much freestyle and depends on the way the game plays out. So I can't say when someone is going to score the 1st goal. But once it happens, get ready for disaster in FIFA 09.

STRAIGHT after scoring, your team are slack, your defence are celebrating the goal for 5 minutes of video-game clock time (not real time!). It doesn't matter if you go defensive, it doesn't matter if you play possession. It doesn't matter about the offside trap or pressing. If the other gamer knows how to attack, he WILL score. And it'll be unrealistically and strangely right after you have scored.

The match will then battle out back and forth until one team scores again. Get ready for another disaster as the team who scored, is about to turn lalalalalalaed! Before you know it 2-2.

I have had matches between big teams that have played out this way to the extent of having match after match of 6-6 draws.

And the game will favour the team with the ball before 90 minutes on the attack. Practically any shot in the box will beat the keeper for a dramatic 90 minute goal. This could also happen during extra time.

I find these high scoring results to be very forced and scripted. It doesn't feel or run its natural course throughout the match, but more like a 'sub-game' going on throughout what looks to be a realistic game, with the collisions and animations looking so amazing. Yet the score only says ARCADE screaming in my face. And the way goals are scored, you score, I score, you score, I score, is just too uncanny to be based on the player. But more or less attributes driving the teams.

Like I said, you have no defence in this game once you score. For a few moments, you just have players standing in the back. If the other gamer, or yourself are having a bad day, you might hit the post or miss. BUT THE CHANCE OF SCORING IS ALWAYS RIDICULOUSLY CREATED!! AND IT IS FORCED, FORCED, FORCED!

This game is causing problems for my possession style of play. Because once I score my defence just open up and give the other gamer a chance to score. I can't confirm that he will, but the chance is forced for him to do so. This is why I said two good players'. Because if it is. The match will go up to 6-6, 7-7+. It's rather insane how the game does this. BUT IT DOES.

So that's my analysis. EA wanted an exciting thrill ride for the big clubs. And the game just 'gives you it'. It's pretty much guaranteed unless the other gamer sucks that bad!

Well I play good gamers and I myself know how to pop them in. But I chat with them and they agree that the way the match plays out is a little 'forced'. Like, if they score. Instantly after the game gives me my chance to score. It's forced 100%. This is why everyone hits the post way to often. The physics of the game are really attribute based. It's probably why the best playerlalalala the post 3-4 times a match in the most frustrating situations to do so. When these shots 'go in' and the score rides up. The game just keeps opening up until you have the most insane score results.

I find you can't expect the AI to do all the work for you. You need to control a CB every now and then and pull him back, the rest of the defence will follow. Just use the second man button to make the AI chase the player around a bit while you set yourself up

Not sure how you play, because I've missed sitters with players such as Torres and Gerrard. Whereas I have slotted dream goals with Swindon (1.5*) players such as Cox (Overall 65)

Do you play on Manual shooting?

I get what you mean, it's as if the "Fifa gods" decide to even up the game by making your defense crappy and giving the opponent an extra 10+ on all their stats. It happened a lot in PES 2008 when I played against my mates or even the cpu.

I pop in pretty much every chance. I'm cheeky like that. And I play gamers who do the same. On a bad day I'll hit the post 3+ times a match, which i find to be very unrealistic.

Your long shots are going in based on attributes and distance. Once your in the box and closer to the keeper, it's a calculation created by the game based on attributes. striker v. keeper. It's balancing really. What is the chance of a rubbish striker staying composed vs. the best keeper in the game?? Think up some outcomes between Torres and good and poor keepers.

Then think of C.Ronaldo and this is why he pops in pretty much any shot. Because no keeper 'balances' his attributes. He's the best player in the game, so his shots are favoured to go in, plenty of times. In fact this is why Man-utd are hated with the likes of rooney, etc. Because the attributes over-balance the other players' so you can 'power' your way through then shoot with super accuracy. lol. And since the keepers don't match up half the time, you can get a pretty damn high score line.

EA said it themselves, the game reads everything. Strength, height, etc.

But my main point on the game is how it gives you a forced opportunity to score and in most cases you will.

I'm not making these posts because I am losing, hell no!! And I do enjoy this game very much. But from my observations, no way is this totally unscripted. It's way too convenient to give a goal away then instantly be rewarded a chance to get one back and visa-versa.

Indeed, it's an advantage in X-amount of yards, etc. I used to edit the gameplay for the PC game and I would turn off this advantage and you'd notice the better players' not giving an inch to the bad ones and slow defenders could not catch up to the fast strikers.

In 09 there is an advantage in X-yards. This is why people are confused as to how slow and stocky defenders catch upto some very quick strikers. But that's balancing for you.

You've got to remeber it's a video-game and thus plays out like one. If you want the real thing, I guess you've got to stick on some boots and go play.
