I'm at home now and I have checked my PS3 connection and it says my NAT is already type 2! Next step I guess is a static IP?

static IP should have been your 1st step. without a static IP on you PS3, how will your router know what IP your PS3 has? it will give a random IP to the PS3 everytime you turn it on.

question for the IT guys:

i forwarded ports at my house and got the NAT type 2. then i couldnt connect to people.

i put it to DMZ and it went back to NAT type 3, and i still couldnt connect to people. why is it going back to NAT type 3 if DMZ is supposed to "open up a tunnel"

If you creat a DMZ it doesnt stop anyone else from using the internet DMZ isnt something like the only ip address that goes in there is the only one that can use the internet that is not the case all DMZ does is instead of creating ports etc it just like makes a tunnel directly from your PS3 (if you put your PS3 ip as the DMZ) to your router.

Trust me mate i made my DMZ my PS3 ip and im on my pc typing this right now. after you put it in you will still be bale to browse the internet and etc with your laptop and pc's or whatever

To be more acurate. DMZ puts whatever piece of hardware(ip addy) outside the protection of your routers firewall. This is a bad thing . Unless you know what your doing with DMZ do not use it. It leaves your Hardware(ip addy) open to attack from hackers and trust me they can do alot more than nerf your harddrive. Just ask Microsoft They had an attempted hack on Live. dont know how it all panned out

Right, after reading threw them 4 pages and googling for various answers..

I've just give my ps3 a static IP, Opened the ports on my router and Have nat type 3 Still, and give me ps3 a DMZ in the router.

still not having any joy on the game tho, just gets stuck on the team selection screen. over the last few days, sometimes i have no trouble playing, sometimes i have no luck it getting a game.

So what does this come down to? Ea Servers overloaded?

Ok, i know there are many many people suffering with this and the dreaded
THIS SESSION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE alert.
And since i bought the game i have been too (until yesterday morning that is)

I'm not saying this IS the answer, but it somehow worked for me.
I am not familiar with the jargon
(ie port forwarding, DMZ, NAT, ip address etc)
BUT, after 3 hours on the phone to BT, 1 hour to EA and 30 mins to PLAYSTATION, im a bit more in the know.

And instead of writing on various threads, because there are so many on this topic and rightly so, i thought id make one, with a possible solution.

Bare in mind, i have a BT home hub, and a ps3...

First off. i rang BT and we tried opening the ports through the BT homehub admin page. didnt work.
so we tried DMZ (opens ALL ports in and out bound. didnt work (infact stopped my ps3 even connecting to the internet for some reason for 5 mins)

Rang EA - they said the same, and if all else fails erase all data...

Now a million people on this forum have told me to do a million different things in a range of different ways, but one guy J_Wheazy, solved it totally for me...

This is how i have fixed it...

First off, delete ALL game data from 08 and 09 that is saved ANYWHERE on the ps3.

Then create a new user.

(i set up a new WIRED connection to the ps3 though not sure thats needed)

yes i forwarded the ports on the BT home hub admin page with the help of BT cust service.

THEN, set up a static i.p address for the ps3. this is because, apparantly everytime your ps3 boots ip, it finds a new ip address. so if your ports are forwarded (like in the manual) they wont always be linked to the same ip address (ps3) in your house

to set that up, you need to...

go to Settings
scroll down to the very bottom and enter Network Settings

now enter Internet Connection

go to Custom

choose wired or wireless depending on what you have

now Auto Detect, then Manual

IP: - you use the same number as your default router, but change the last 3
(seek help on what to change them to. like i said, i dont know how it works, i just did it)

subnet: (seek help)
default router: whatever your router address is -
primary DNS: (seek help)
2nd DNS: (seek help)

that will have you static IP setup on your PS3.
now test the connection and see if it works.

so then,
go into your admin on ya router admin page and check the ps3 (device) is the same as that static ip address
then make sure under that device, the application you have set up (FIFA 09) is added, and enabled.

then boot up fifa 09 and start totally from scratch. (in your new user)

if it works in this new user, it should work in your old one bearing in mind you have had to delete ALL the old data b4 you did any of this...

Now i know many of you out there know more about this than me, but i am just genuinely trying to help. this may not work for you, but it defiantly did for me.
i could connect to like, ONE in 25 attempts at an online match and interactive leagues didnt work at all.
now i havent had a single problem since...

i really do hope this helps guys.
and i hope im not out of my depth posting this.

fifa should not be this complicated to play online. i know many people dont have a problem, but soooooo many do. and it frustrated the heck out of me

and seeing as EA dont come on and give any solution, i was damn well appreciative of the guy that helped me get this sorted, so respect to JWheazy

cheers guys
matt
Hey guys having the same problems as all of the above on ps3 with the bt homehub....
