I agree with you on that. Better to just open the ports that you need.

Guys..I am an IT Consultant and net programming is my job.

Forwarding ports and the like to fix this is just a fluke...its the lalalala fifa 09 code. If your fifa 08 worked or any other game for that matter then just leave everything alone.

When you open connections to servers (in code) it comes from the machine itself and opens a "tunnel" to it which stays open throughout. The router knows where to send the data. Port forwarding is needed if you are setting up a server on your PC or something like that.

If for some strange reason they have made it so you actually do need to change router settings then they need to change it quickly and make it like every other xbox live game.

I have troubles with fifa online games (i played over 500 online games on fifa 08 without a problem) and I think everyone does at the moment. My mates have the same problem too and they are all programmers.

So sit tight and wait until EA fix it.

Nonsense, people cannot hack into your PS3. I play my PS3 in a DMZ from the 1st day. Hell, I dont even use a firewall on my router. I have no kiddy porn or CIA documents on my Mac, why would anyone be bothered with me?

Unfortunately I did have the same problem with last year's game I probably successfully connected to 1 in 5 games. i just put up with it last year, but it's doing my head in and seems even slower this time around, am not going to be able to play all year like this, it;s like reloading every web page ten times!

Just to add: The setup is spread over quite a distance, and there are three possible wireless network names I can click on for a better signal strength. I'm pretty sure they all feed back to the same router though.

The router you are cliking on what is the signla strenght ?

First thing i would suggest you do is go to belkin.com look for your product and upgrade it to the latest firmware, then come back

I already said that in the beginning. You are 100% right.

Yeah, why the hell would FIFA not work with your router yet Warhawk works? lalalala talk from the devs.

You're so right, we cannot do anything about it. Also, its not our fault. Funny that EA even put this corporate governance pollicy in all their manuals. As if they know from the start on that their nedcode isn't too best...

cause people are *****? why send spread viruses that have no point but to fry your harddrive? there's no point, but they still do it.

Anyway, freeing DMZ, for BT Hub at least, stops a lot of other things working.

@programmer bloke.....so what's your reply to people who used to have a problem, followed this advice, and it now works....this would suggest it IS a personal problem rather than an EA server one

well my laptop always receives full strength when I'm in the same room as my PS3, and it always says I have a green connection when I'm in a FIFA lobby.

Yeah I might try that, might as well, nothing to lose (apart from all my fifa history )

@JC....there's a website that was linked in here, it's a BT hub one and it tells you NOT to open DMZ, then there's a list of loads of things that won't work anymore if you do. I aint risking it.

edit: it's not a website, it's actually in your Hub Settings>Advanced>DMZ
Please tell me I didnt put memory stick ....... checks ........, yes I did ..... what a silly barsteward I now look

My answer would be that the servers are in and out at the moment...sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. You just happen to try it when they are working. I would bet that eventually it will stop working again.

but some people come on here saying they have no problem at all

now if it were the EA servers, that wouldn't be possible?

There could be many reasons why this is happening...it could be where you live and which servers you connect to. There might be a few dodgy servers that are overloaded or something. I am sure EA know what the problem is and they are working on it.

I manage servers myself and if they go down we just work like mad to fix them and we don't let anyone know what the problem is because it doesn't look good. I would say they have a lot of servers and its not an easy problem to fix.

By the way net programming for games is really hard and fifa 08 was brilliant for it. Not sticking up for them but anyone has played PES will know what bad net code is like ( i refuse to play pes anymore because it is so bad online).

It would be nice if they came onto the forum and just let us know what is happening though.

I must admit that I have played it a few times, where I have had no problems whatsoever, then other times it's 1 in 10 chance at best. I think I will leave for a couple of weeks and see if it sorts itself out first.

I've had a look on the website and it doesn't offer any firmware updates for my router - is it a case of it being out of date as I've had it at least a couple of years? If so is that really the reason why my FIFA isn't connecting properly?

No that wont be it, what is your i would suggest making a DMZ for your PS3

Find out what your PS3 IP Address is you can do this by going into network settings and cliking on the firdst option ( i cant remeber what it is ) then go to your router page, click on DMZ and what ever the PS3 IP was put it in the DMZ and see where you go from there ..

If you want i can help you through this over msn

I agree with Mark Dublin, I'm also in the IT field.

I've been playing fifa games for years and always had connection issues on playstation.

Connection issues can come from either(client or server) or both. I've played wired and wireless, currently just switched from PS3 fifa 08 wireless to Xbox 360 fifa 08 wired and I'll have to say, although I'm still getting disconnects and very few(quitters ), this is by far the best fifa online gaming experience yet as far as server dependability. Definitely will be buying fifa 09 for xbox 360.

When I play a 1v1 ranked game but when my 2 other mates play as a club so 3v3, we always get disconnected and the loss goes into our name when not one of us get's disconnected from PSN. Any idea what I can do??

Thanx

No, its EA's netcode. If DMZ fixed it all, there would be no problems anymore and there still are. So its their fault.

WeLL everyone i am going to give you a very good walkthrough on how you should go about fixing this problem this is what i did, if your pc and PS3 ip address are close to each other there will be an ip conflict so you need to make one for your PS3 so thatyour pc doesnt boot your PS3 from your router here it is hope it helps

Btw its not the NAT type your fixing its the ip conflict (but everyone should have NAT TYPE 2) just try it and see if works.. DID FOR ME !!

I've gotta simpler solution of getting a NAT type 2....

Go on your PS3, Disable Media Player,

turn off your PS3, turn off your router..

turn them back on...........wallah....NAT type 2

Makes no ******* difference

THANKS! I will try this when I'm next next to my PS3

One question though...

I have a similar page on my router except where you have a column for just IP Address, it says 'Server' IP Address in my column. When I opened up the ports in the back of the FIFA 09 manual last night I didn't change this, should I? Am I taking too much notice of the word 'server' ? Just to reiterate my internet connection went down while these ports were open, when I deleted them the internet was fine.

Mate what i would suggest doing as i siad before is just put your ps3 ip address on your routers page as the DMZ because then you dont need to forward anything you could call a DMZ in other words ( a free way to your router BUT !! only the ip address you put in it ) So the only person you could get into your router would be YOUR PS3 lool

try it mate

So does that mean I can't log into my router from my laptop or any of the PC's anymore? Would I have to log onto my router via the PS3 browser? If so I can't really do that because so many other people use the internet here and I wouldn't want to get the blame if something went wrong!

I'm at home now and I have checked my PS3 connection and it says my NAT is already type 2! Next step I guess is a static IP?
